Locals excited for what Captain Marvel could do for Fresno County
The newest Marvel movie will have some familiar scenery to see. As most remember, Captain Marvel filmed in Fresno County last summer in the Shaver Lake area. The 144th Fighter Wing also had a hand in getting the movie made. Everyone involved locally is excited to see how it'll all be portrayer -- but also excited for what the movie could do for them down the line.
The movie helped Fresno County rake in a lot of bucks when crews were here in 2018. In a report, Fresno County said filming brought in around $427,000.
Usually at Shaver Lake, people are trying to catch some rainbow trout. However, those who went out during May 2018 also caught a view of some sort of crash.
“We’ve has other films up here before, but this was a big deal,” Shaver Lake real estate agent said. “Big trucks, I mean 40-footers, coming through here. One after the other.”
Huebner adds all eateries and lodging in the area pocketed extra cash during the crew’s stay. Himself included, as he rented his townhome to the movie’s star, Brie Larson.
“They were great guests. No wild parties, no Hollywood bashes or anything. Just good people,” he said with a laugh.
The thing that excites him the most is the tourism the movie could generate for the area.
A lot of the film crew were saying that they wanted to come back, so it's not just a one-time thing, which was fantastic,” Huebner said.
Fresno’s 144th Fighter Wing also revved up about Captain Marvel’s exposure. Airmen from the base prepped F-15 jets for the movie — which they say is a great representation of airmen all over.
“Her path to go through the Air Force Academy and then through pilot training is not unlike most fighter pilots in the Air Force,” said 1st Lt. Charlie Jamieson
Master Sgt. Leslie Sundstrom said it’s even more important since Captain Marvel is a woman.
In the future, [it’ll] only help us at the 144th, being local, plus the Air Force globally. That's gonna set us on the map for this,” she said.
While our Fresno airmen had a hand in the film, all of their scenes were shot at Edwards Air Force Base in Kern County.

KSEE24 News Exclaims 'We Are Fresno' - Announces Exciting Changes Ahead
KSEE24 News Exclaims 'We Are Fresno' with Another Major Commitment to Pro-Central Valley Campaign
December 13, 2010 (Fresno, CA) --- KSEE24, Fresno's NBC affiliate and the Central Valley's first television station has announced the launch of a new locally produced program titled We Are Fresno: LIVE. The new broadcast is just one of many exciting new changes at the station. Two other newscasts will soon have a fresh new look and a more powerful weather system is about to be unveiled. These changes are expected to be implemented in early 2011.
Earlier this year we launched a campaign called 'We Are Fresno' which has given us a platform to highlight everything great about living in the Central Valley. These stories include the people, places and events that make our region uniquely fantastic, said Matthew Rosenfeld, KSEE24 President & General Manager. We've been looking for ways to make an even greater commitment to this campaign. We're particularly excited because we love the opportunity to tell more pro-Central Valley stories.
We Are Fresno: LIVE will be hosted by Stefani Booroojian and Faith Sidlow. They're two of the area's most trusted journalists. The program will air at 4:00 p.m. daily beginning in early 2011. It will be a live, local lifestyle program.
This greater commitment to the Valley is also an opportunity to re-energize other newscasts, commented Chris Manson, KSEE24 News Director. With Faith (Sidlow) moving to 'We Are Fresno: LIVE,' KSEE24 chose Alex Delgado and Matt Otstot to host Sunrise from 5:00-7:00 a.m. which will boast a new format. Alex and Matt were natural choices and will bring a new energy to the morning. Alex is a very talented & popular local personality and an Emmy Award winning news anchor. Matt has done a fantastic job anchoring weekends at KSEE24 and has a great personality for morning news. Together they complement each other and should be a hit with viewers. The station is proud that Alex and Matt have both been honored with the Central Valley's 40 under 40 Award.
Lastly Carolyn Bruck will now team up with Fresno's own Lindsey Pena to host the Central Valley's first and only 7 p.m. News. Lindsey is from the Central Valley and brings her local course knowledge to the popular 7p.m. newscast in its unique news magazine format.
In August KSEE24 unveiled a new studio, new HD cameras, enhanced station graphics and a 16x9 Digital Widescreen format. Our next technological improvement is launching the new HD Cinema LIVE weather system powered by Accuweather™. We continue to invest in the KSEE24 news product and these changes, both personnel and technological, exemplify our commitment to providing valley viewers with the best local news coverage, said Rosenfeld.
