USA Monterey CA Whale watching

USA in 4K part 3: Whale watching in Monterey Bay
this is a part of our trip to USA - contains shoots from the whale watching boat trip in Monterey Bay.
The Monterey coast is one of the best places in California — or perhaps in the world — to watch whales and other marine life.
Whales come to the Monterey Bay because it's full of things they like to eat. Plankton, krill, squid, and anchovies are all carried to the ocean's surface by a perfect combination of wind, the angle of the coastline and the earth's rotation.
In fact, the Monterey Bay National Marine Sanctuary is almost like Africa's Serengeti plains, rich in wildlife. More than 30 species of marine mammals, 180 species of seabirds and shorebirds, and at least 525 species of fish live in it.

Monterey Bay Whale Watch (05/19/2008) - NSTCC
Members of the Student Biological Society of Northeast State Community College of Tennessee on a whale watching adventure out of Monterey Bay, California. Two very friendly Humpback Whales provided the group with hours of awe and enjoyment. Dozens and dozens of breaches were performed by these magnificent and beautiful giants!!!
Humpback Whales were once hunted to the brink of extinction. Due to their slow swimming and close association to shore, they were fairly easy targets for whalers. The worldwide population plummeted by approximately 90% (to less than 1,500 individuals) before the hunting of humpbacks was banned in 1966. The current estimated population is now around 10-30,000 individuals.
The music is Last of the Great Whales by Solas.

Monterey, California ~ Old Fisherman's Wharf
Recently Wifey & I were in Monterey, California and we decided to visit the Old Fisherman's Wharf for dinner. We made a reservation and ate at the Old Fisherman's Grotto Restaurant. I can highly recommend this restaurant. I gave it 5 stars on Google. The service was as good as we've ever had and the Halibut dinner we had was incredible.
While waiting for our reservation, I went on a walking tour of Fisherman's Wharf.
The Wharf is a very cool spot to hang out for sightseeing, people watching and there are some fantastic restaurants.

Amazing Monterey Bay Aquarium in California
The Monterey Bay Aquarium (MBA) is a public aquarium located in Monterey, California, United States. The aquarium was founded in 1984 and is located on the site of a former sardine cannery on Cannery Row. It has an annual attendance of more than two million visitors. It holds thousands of plants and animals, representing more than 600 species on display. The aquarium benefits from a high circulation of fresh ocean water which is obtained through pipes which pump it in continuously from Monterey Bay.
The centerpiece of the Ocean's Edge Wing, is a 28-foot-high (8.5 m), 333,000-US-gallon (1,260,000 l; 277,000 imp gal) tank for viewing California coastal marine life. In this tank, the aquarium was the first in the world to grow live California Giant Kelp. Visitors are able to inspect the creatures of the kelp forest at several levels in the building. The largest tank in the aquarium is a 1,200,000-U.S.-gallon (4,500,000 l; 1,000,000 imp gal) tank in the Open Sea galleries (formerly the Outer Bay), which features one of the world's largest single-paned windows. It is one of the few aquariums to hold the ocean sunfish in captivity.
Sealife on exhibit includes stingrays, jellyfish, sea otters, and numerous other native marine species, which can be viewed above and below the waterline. The Monterey Bay Aquarium is one of very few in the world to exhibit both bluefin and yellowfin tuna. For displaying jellyfish, it uses a Kreisel tank, which creates a circular flow to support and suspend the jellies. The aquarium does not house mammals other than otters.
Old Fisherman's Wharf & Monterey Bay (Monterey, CA)
Here is a tour of the Old Fisherman's Wharf and a quick look of the Monterey Bay in Monterey, CA. There are a lot of gift shops, candy stores, and restaurants with tasty food, treats, and more. This is a pretty relaxing place right here at the Old Fisherman's Wharf.
Fisherman's Wharf was built by the Pacific Coast Steamship Company in 1870 for the loading and unloading of passengers and goods. The wharf was also used by other commercial operations, and the city of Monterey took ownership in 1913. The wharf was expanded through 1920.
In 1923, while an unusually large shipment of sardines was being loaded onto the S.S. San Antonio, bad weather caused the ship to lean on the wharf, and 132 feet of the wharf collapsed. When the wharf was reconstructed, it was extended by 750 feet.
Municipal Wharf II was constructed in 1926. After World War II, the sardine population in Monterey Bay collapsed. With the contraction of the fishing industry, Old Fisherman's Wharf reoriented its business focus toward tourism.
This was taken on July 21, 2017.
Monterey Fisherman's Wharf - Monterey Bay California
CaliWeGo.com Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf is lined with seafood restaurants, gift shops, jewelry stores, art galleries, and candy shops. Whale watching tours are available in the area. And don't forget to check out the sea lions that seem to sleep all over the bay. Monterey Bay California Fisherman's Wharf. Monterey's Fisherman's Wharf is lined with seafood restaurants ranging from casual, open-air clam bars, to formal indoor dining with views of Monterey Bay. Along with Cannery Row, Fisherman's Wharf is one of the few areas in Monterey that sells souvenirs, so the restaurants are interspersed with gift shops, jewelry stores, art galleries, and candy shops. Whale watching tours and fishing trips leave from the wharf, and sea lions often sleep on the pilings, buoys, and moored boats in the bay.
At the entrance to the wharf is Custom House Plaza, the historical center of Monterey. Here you will find the Custom House, the first government building in California and the location where the United States took Monterey from Mexico in 1846. The Monterey Maritime Museum is also located in Custom House Plaza, detailing both the maritime and cultural history of Monterey and the surrounding area. Many other historic buildings are located in this plaza. It is also the location of the last whalebone sidewalk in the United States.
Accessible almost exclusively to pedestrians, Fisherman's Wharf is located at the end of the Alvarado Mall, just west of the municipal wharf on Lighthouse Avenue. It is also on the Coastal Recreation Trail, providing pedestrian access to Cannery Row and Pacific Grove From Memorial Day to Labor Day the city of Monterey provides a free trolley service to Cannery Row and the Monterey Bay Aquarium. A favorite activity on the wharf, for both tourists and locals, is sailing on the Monterey Bay along Cannery Row.
