Petrified Forest National Park Painted Desert Blue Mesa Trail Hike Raw POV
Petrified Forest National Park, AZ
Today we traveled to the Petrified Forest National Park in Arizona, and were blown away by what we saw! This Park has the largest collection of petrified logs in the World! They are everywhere, with nice walking paths all amongst them for you to touch in amazement! The outside of the logs looks exactly like bark, but the insides have been transformed into beautiful colors - amazing! A trip to this park is highly recommended!!

Videojourney.US Petrified Forest National Park
Petrified Forest National Park is a United States national park in Navajo and Apache counties in northeastern Arizona. Named for its large deposits of petrified wood, the fee area of the park covers about 170 square miles (440 square kilometers), encompassing semi-desert shrub steppe as well as highly eroded and colorful badlands. The park's headquarters is about 26 miles (42 km) east of Holbrook along Interstate 40 (I-40), which parallels the BNSF Railway's Southern Transcon, the Puerco River, and historic U.S. Route 66, all crossing the park roughly east–west. The site, the northern part of which extends into the Painted Desert, was declared a national monument in 1906 and a national park in 1962. About 800,000 people visit the park each year and take part in activities including sightseeing, photography, hiking, and backpacking.
Averaging about 5,400 feet (1,600 m) in elevation, the park has a dry windy climate with temperatures that vary from summer highs of about 100 °F (38 °C) to winter lows well below freezing. More than 400 species of plants, dominated by grasses such as bunchgrass, blue grama, and sacaton, are found in the park. Fauna include larger animals such as pronghorns, coyotes, and bobcats; many smaller animals, such as deer mice; snakes; lizards; seven kinds of amphibians, and more than 200 species of birds, some of which are permanent residents and many of which are migratory. About half of the park is designated wilderness.
Painted Desert from Petrified Forest National Park overlook
If you're in northern Arizona and on I-40 just west of the New Mexico border, you should stop at the Petrified Forest National Park if only to view the Painted Desert to the north of the freeway.
By the way.... there's only wind noise in the audio, so you might as well turn the sound down!

Ive heard many things about experiencing the Grand Canyon and the surrounding areas and how it will change you. Although there are stressful factors in my life, i feel, how can i say? pure. I feel great. The air is so different than the east coast. Certainly nothing like a populated city.
First stop was Phoenix. After flying in from Jacksonville and Houston, my friend and I immediately in great need of food. So the first stop was an In n Out Burger joint in Tempe, Az. Ive had this before back in 05' but I cant recall the deliciousness of the food. After i dropped of my car in Jax, i forgot my warm gear considering the desert gets down to 30 degrees while phoenix stays warm. My friend and i checked out a few shops. We didnt stay too long since we had a short time limit for our whole trip. From there we quickly drove right into Downtown and right out onto I17 north toward Flagstaff stopping at Montezuma Castle and Sedona for the red rocks scenery.
Next Day we took a long drive through Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado and driving through the Monument Valley in Utah .
And for day three we took a day trip to the south rim of the breathtaking Grand Canyon. Stop at all points east of the main entrance. Yes i sat on the edge several times as much as i told myself i wouldnt. It was necessary. :) Taking the drive toward Cameron and back south to Flagstaff we came across a smaller Canyon area along the way where I was able to yell and hear my echo 5 times over. It was the most amazing experience ever just like in the movies.
Every person should visit the Grand Canyon at least once in there life time, including other desert activities. Overall my Arizona trip was beyond a success and i am glad i had someone with me to enjoy the memorable experience.

After visiting the Painted Desert and Puerco Pueblo, we continued on the road towards the Petrified Forest. Between these two areas is a vast wash with a terrific view. You can go hiking out onto the wash and surrounding area. But remember! It is against the law to remove ANY item from a National Forest. Except yourself and loved ones in your vehicle. :)

???? Drive America's Highways south through the Petrified Forest National Park. In collaboration with DietrichDuke.com, this segment features views from the visitors center south to Blue Mesa. Sights include Tiponi and Whipple Point as well as the Painted Desert Inn.
You can take the return trip (with different stops) at
Unlike our normal videos, we really wanted to share the beauty of this park so we included some pano of each of the sites we stop at.
We also kept this video in real time, so its a bit longer than our standard videos. There is a soundtrack to this video, but it's very soft, so don't be alarmed if you don't hear anything right away.

Petrified Forest and The Painted Desert
This is where we discovered how truly beautiful wood and rocks can be! Walking in the Petrified Forest looking at the wood stumps and trees that have been petrified was an amazing thing indeed. We were so careful not to touch anything or disturbe anything. When leaving we went to the visitor center and bought a tiny little piece of petrified wood to take home and treasure. Then as we drove away several miles down the road was a huge store selling petrified wood from private land by the truckload! So much for preserving nature. We didn't buy any from the store but we have bought some pieces online. The Painted Desert was a sensory overload experience! Beautiful, simply beautiful. If you are anywhere near the state of Arizona - get to these two places. Your eyes will thank you.

We took an unplanned excursion through this national park, and were glad we did! We drove along a 28 mile road through painted desert and a petrified forest. The sites are unworldly!
Hiking Jasper Forest Road, Petrified Forest, Arizona
After my First Forest Point ( ), I hiked the Jasper Forest Road off the beaten path trail. Jasper Forest Road, aka First Forest Road, is in the Petrified Forest of Apache County Arizona's Painted Desert. The National Park Service Off the Beaten Path program allows hikers to get away from pavement-bound tourists. I found a petrified log that was 66 diameter!
