Slot Canyons: A Guided Hike Near Kanab, Utah
It's said that Southern Utah offers the highest concentration of slot canyons in the world. Well-prepared visitors can hike right into some of them, but the best experience is with a guide. In the Paria Canyon-Vermilion Cliffs Wilderness, Nick Smith of Detours Adventures shows how to safely and respectfully visit these stunning but fragile landscapes.

Peekaboo Canyon - Kanab, Utah (FREE Alternative to Antelope Canyon)
Todd Hata and I continue our Utah adventures with a slot canyon that's just north of Kanab. To get to it you need to either drive with a 4x4 or hike 3 miles in the sand. Peekaboo Canyon is free to go to and looks amazing. A great alternative to Antelope Canyon which is 90 miles away. The best part was that we had it all to ourselves. Add Peekaboo Canyon to your list when you go to Utah.
Note that this is NOT the Peekaboo Canyon near the town of Escalante.

Arriving into Kanab, Utah
AB Roadrunners 7/2019 Kanab is just north of the Arizona state line on the Kanab Creek founded in 1870. But first settled in1846... Local call Kanab Little Hollywood due to the filming of movies. You can visit the store. There's BLM Station right next to Wendy's you are welcome to stop talk to them as to where to camp and see their display... We discovered Utah is sand and camping in area mostly for small rigs. Our 30ft rig was to big.. The rock formations are beautiful to see. Trailheads to hike, stores to shop. If you like us give a thumbs up and subscribe, If not that's OK too. Have a great day.
Red Hollow Slot Canyon
Red Hollow, is a slot Canyon in Orderville Utah. The Canyon is located off Hwy 89. In Orderville, turn at Valley Elementary school. This is 100 East. After 0.2 miles, turn left onto Red Shadow Drive. After 0.3 miles a gravel road continues straight, while the paved road curves to the right. Take the gravel road until the end. You'll see the waypoints mentioned in the video. The trail to the wash is on the right.
Post note: After shooting, I returned to the canyon. Past the boulders in the video are some ropes that allow you to scramble up and further into the canyon. It's nothing too strenuous and worth taking a peek.
Arizona Strip and the Grand Canyon Part 2
I invite you to join some friends from California, Utah and Arizona and myself on Part 2 of our 17 day tour of the Arizona Strip and the North Rim of the Grand Canyon. The tour took us to Whitney Pockets, Devils Throat, Grand Gulch Canyon, Waring Ranch, Kelly Point, Mount Trumble Schoolhouse, Bar Ten Ranch, Whitmore Canyon, Mount Logan, Toroweap, and Kanab Point. We ended by hiking the Wire Pass slot canyon driving through Cottonwood Canyon and staying at Kodachrome Basin State Park in Utah.
Full-timing on the road - Boondocking in Kanab UT
A quick video of where I boondocked for the night in Kanab, UT, and waking up to a spectacular sunrise! This was my very first true boondocking experience, and it was awesome!
BEST ROAD TRIP: Grand Canyon, Antelope Canyon, Zion, Horseshoe Bend | 4K
Road tripped to these incredible spots in one weekend! They are all amazing, but I cannot wait to get back to Zion National Park. This is easy to do in three days, but more time would allow more time at Zion and to see Bryce Canyon. Map of our route:
TOP TRAVEL TIPS:
*For the drive, we stayed one night at the North Rim West Cabins, then one night in Kanab, which has several hotel options.
GRAND CANYON NORTH RIM:
*Stay in the Western Cabins, they are worth it and are close to the Bright Angel Trail.
*There are far fewer view points to drive to on the North Rim than the South Rim, but give yourself time because they are very spread out.
HORSESHOE BEND:
*It was almost too hot here, and there is over 1 mile hiking.
*There's not too much to do here other than pictures.
ANTELOPE CANYON:
Go To: Navajonationparks.org to see every Antelope Canyon Tour
*There are several options for Antelope Canyon, but I HIGHLY RECOMMEND: Antelope Canyon X Taadidiin Tours (Hiking Tour). It is the cheapest ($38) and they do not rush you. The experience was amazing! For online reservations (were not needed for us):
ZION NATIONAL PARK:
*Stay at the lodge- it makes it so you don't have to wait in the long bus line in the morning.
*I would stay for at least 3 nights. You wont want to leave.
*Angel's Landing is not that strenuous or difficult, or even extreme, or scary. It's all pretty over hyped, but the view from the top is incredible.
What we did:
GRAND CANYON
(0:00) Intro: Grand Canyon Timelapse, Antelope Canyon, Horseshoe Bend, Lake Powell (only shot we got... it was too hot to film), drone footage just outside Zion National Park, Hiking Angel's Landing.
(0:20) Grand Canyon North Rim- Exploring and being goofy on the Bright Angel Trail.
(1:00) Timelapse of the sunset from Bright Angel Trail
(1:08) Bright Angel Trail the following morning for the sunrise
(1:33) Stopped at Point Imperial view point on our way out
HORSESHOE BEND
(1:41) Arriving and checking out Horseshoe bend

Hiking Willis Creek Slot Canyon - Amazing hike!
Willis Creek Slot Canyon in Cannonville, Utah - a family/kid friendly hike
More pictures:
----------------------------
Distance Round Trip: 2.6 miles to complete the 5 narrows / 4.8 if you complete the canyon
Elevation Gain: ~ 300 ft (it's mostly flat)
Slot canyons are amazing! And Willis Creek is a great first slot canyon if you've never been in one. This canyon is a perfect side-trip if you are passing through and need a break from Bryce Canyon, or any of the other National Parks nearby. It's an easy, relatively flat hike and requires no acrobatics, rappelling or other complicated feats to access. Simply park at the trailhead and walk right in -- you'll hit the first of 5 narrows in no time. Each successive section gets a bit narrower and taller as you go, and depending on the water levels you may find it harder and harder to keep your feet dry. Be prepared and bring some nice sturdy waterproof boots, or river-walking sandals if you have them!!!
The trailhead for Willis Creek is a bit remote and is a few miles out on a dusty dirt track that passes through Grand Staircase-Escalante National Monument. Be sure to drop in at the Visitor Center in Cannonville, Utah to check road conditions and get some helpful tips before you head onwards:
DIRECTIONS:
From the Visitors Center, simply turn right and head down Kodachrome Road. After about 2.8 miles you'll see a dirt road branching off to the right -- it's well marked with a sign reading Skutumpah Road, but can be easy to miss if you are driving too fast. Turn right onto the dirt road and follow it for another 6.3 miles to a clearly marked trailhead. If you look closely at the Google Maps link I'll place at the end, you can see there are a few additional roads branching off along the way. None of these look even remotely friendly, especially if you aren't in a 4WD vehicle, so don't worry too much about getting lost and just use common sense to guide your way. We made the whole trip safely in a Hyundai Accent and there was only one section that gave us pause: just past halfway you'll cross a small dam and there may be some water collected in the roadway. The water wasn't an issue, but we did scrape our nose slightly crossing the dam. Other than that, a few steep, curvy sections are all that stand in your way. Take it slow and you'll be fine -- but definitely don't drive this road if it's even a little bit muddy though…even a tank would have difficulty reaching the trail in wet weather!!!

Family Holiday in Southeast Utah
A family with 3 children from Thailand visited USA during Apr 27 - May 11, 2012. On May 5, we drove from Bluff in southeast Utah towards Mexican Hat and turned into State Route 261. First stop was Goosenecks State Park. Then had a terrific but scenic drive up the Moki Dugway (10% grade, narrow, and winding road) before approaching Natural Bridges National Monument where we had short hikes to Sipapu and Owachomo, two of the three natural bridges in the National Monument.
In the afternoon, we arrived at Capitol Reef National Park. Stayed at Austin's Chuckwagon Motel in Torrey.

S1:E7 - Explore Utah By RV (Zion National Park to Zebra Slot Canyon)
Join us as we explore the slot canyons and wide open spaces of Utah! The state is ripe for outdoor adventure! Whether spending a week in one of the 5 National Parks in Utah, or exploring the many off-the-beaten path trails, there is plenty of adventure to be found all across the state!
⌘⌘ IN THIS EPISODE ⌘⌘
In this episode we begin in the southwest corner of the state, having left Las Vegas en route to Colorado. Our first stop is Zion National Park, one of the 5 spectacular National Parks in Utah. Because National Parks are not dog-friendly and it is too hot already in early May to leave our pup Everest in the camper, we just briefly explore the park. If we could hike with Everest we could have spent a full week exploring the many trails in Zion National Park.
After leaving Zion we follow the backroads on our way to visit Bryce Canyon National Park. We made a quick trip through Bryce Canyon as well. This time we left Everest in the camper for a few hours so that we could hike the famous ____ trail.
Of course, with so much open space in the state we could not help but to find a comfortable place to boondock for the night! Utah is full of Bureau of Land Management (BML) camping and use of the iOverlander mobile app will help you find the best places to get away from stuffy and costly campgrounds.
Another advantage of boondocking in the wilderness was the opportunity to be closer to the slot canyons that we were eager to explore! We spent a full day hiking out and playing in the famous Zebra Slot Canyon just outside of Escalante. See the links below for photos and information about how to get there!
