HIKING THE RUBICON TRAIL SOUTH LAKE TAHOE, CALIFORNIA
I filmed this back in September 2019 which was a great time of year to hike here. The Rubicon Trail is the most beautiful trail in Lake Tahoe. I did about a 10-mile portion of it from D.L Bliss State Park to Vikingsholm in Emerald Bay. Incredible views the entire hike through! Here is my vlog of this one of a kind hiking trail!

Rubicon Trail Hiking through D.L. Bliss State Park - Lake Tahoe, CA
The Rubicon Trail is a delightful easy hike that includes level walking, stunning views of Emerald Bay and Lake Tahoe, and quiet forests along the way. It can be done as a long 8 mile round trip or, by shuttling a car, as a pleasant 4 mile jaunt. In the spring, snow plants push their way through the duff to add a splash of red to the constant blue, green and brown landscape.
Emerald Bay is located a few miles north of South Lake Tahoe on Highway 89 and D.L. Bliss State Park just 4miles beyond that. This trail can be started at either end. To hike one direction, shuttle a car to D. L Bliss State Park (fee required) making sure to park in the lot closest to the trail head as the walk back to the entrance station from the trail is 2 miles of steady climbing. Then, return to the Vikingsholm parking area at Emerald Bay.
Filmed with a Canon T4i in September 2015.

Rubicon Hiking Trail in South Lake Tahoe + What to see in Emerald Bay
The Rubicon Trail is one of my favorite trails in all of Lake Tahoe. The 4.6 mile trail (10 if you don't shuttle) goes through two state parks and along the water for pretty much the entire time. It is a beautiful area to explore and one that you want to take your time with. When you make it to Emerald Bay, plan to spend some time relaxing on the beach or visiting Eagle Falls, Fanette Island or Vikingsholm. I left some tips for each at the end of this video.

Short hike we did to the small falls around Emerald Bay. Water was rushing pretty fast and it was perfect weather.
Lighthouse-Rubicon Trail, Lake Tahoe, California
Today I went to D.L. Bliss State Park near Emerald Bay on the California side of Lake Tahoe. I hiked the Rubicon Trail to the Lighthouse, and then I started down the trail to Emerald Bay, but when I saw a bear, albeit a small one, I decided not to tempt fate and I turned around back to the car.

Beginning of the Rubicon Trail to Lake Tahoe - HD drone video
This is the beginning of the Rubicon Trail from Loon Lake to Lake Tahoe. This is a very popular place for groups to take their 4x4 vehicles for a ride to Lake Tahoe.
I did check with the fire crews about the smoke in the background and they are controlled burns. No air support needed.

South Lake Tahoe Eagle Falls Hike
April 22, 2019 we hiked out out to lower and upper Eagle Falls then out to Eagle Lake. The entire hike was in the snow but totally doable as most of it was easy terrain. This offers absolutely amazing views and when you get to the lake you will be amazed at how gorgeous it is sitting in the middle of these amazing rock cliffs. The hike is a short hike so even people he rarely hike can manage this! The Rubicon Trail - Off-Road Highlights - El Dorado County, California
For the full trail guide please visit:
Highlights of this epic offroad / 4x4 overland rock crawling trail.
The Rubicon/McKinney Road in Northern California got its name because it crosses the Rubicon River at one point near Lake Tahoe. Originally established in the 1800's, the road was used as a stagecoach road between Georgetown and Lake Tahoe. After the hotels went out of business, the road began to deteriorate. Because of this, in 1952, several residents of Georgetown held a meeting to discuss the possibility of an organized Jeep tour from Georgetown to Lake Tahoe, via the Rubicon Trail. On August 29, 1953, 55 Jeeps with 155 enthusiastic participants left Georgetown on a two-day trip that is now known as Jeepers Jamboree 1. Since then, the Jeepers Jamboree organization has moved the event to the last weekend of July. Now it's a four-wheelers tradition of these pioneers.
Today, almost everyone has heard of The Rubicon Trail. Believed to be the Super Bowl of offroad trails, this extreme trail is a must-do destination for all offroaders, overlanders, and rock crawlers. Comprised of miles of nonstop 4-low rock crawling, this trail is going to test your driving skills and your vehicle. According to who you talk to, this trail is scary intense to a weekend camping trip. But don't be fooled, this trail should never be underestimated for one second.
This is an epic 4x4 off-road rock crawling trail that has all the fun of overland and technical obstacles. This offroad trail is made of legends and never disappoints. The trail has several different entry points, the popular one which is this video is over near Ice House at Loon Lake, the others are Georgetown on Wentworth springs, and we end up exiting the trail at Lake Tahoe. This is one of the epic dog friendly trails in the area so make sure you bring your best friend with you.
Make sure you watch the full video so you don't miss any of the action or the short glimpse at the ghost in Rubicon Springs that was recorded during the lightning storm.
