Bay Area Beercation- Bar Review: Beer 39 at Pier 39, San Francisco, CA
First bar visit during my Beercation to the Bay Area!
Hop Spot Bar Review: Beer 39
Location: Pier 39, San Francisco, CA (near Fisherman's Wharf)
Rating: 5/5 cheers

-Funny story on how I got to this place:
I visited Pier 39 with some family, not expecting to find any bars specifically for craft beer. I was peeking my head into different restaurants, seeing out of curiosity what taps were hanging around. I saw the usual macros, and lots of Sierra Nevada and Anchor. Then I thought why not Google this place? With a quick search of Pier 39 beer it returned Beer 39. Still looking at my phone while walking, my sister said, Look! I looked up and BAM. We were standing in front of Beer 39. It was meant to be!
-What first caught my eye when walking in was that this place was part bar part shop. Lots of cool apparel, signs, glasses, and even steins were for sale. The bartender (I forgot his name) was extremely nice and helpful. I told him I wasn't a local and he told me all I needed to know. I chose a flight of: Anchor Steam Ale, Speakeasy Big Daddy IPA, and 21st Amendment Back in Black IPA- all from breweries in San Francisco.
-Overall: Relaxing ambiance, cool products for sale, friendly service, good variety of beers from the area and parts California. Great if you want to kick back and relax from the busy streets of SF.
-Fun Fact: Why the name Beer 39? Well, it's in Pier 39, but the bar also boasts 12 beers and tap and 27 bottles...you do the math ;)

Golden Gate Tap Room, San Francisco
For photos & more ???? ????
With it's massive projection screens, staggering number of flat-screen TVs, and the numerous games available to play, it would be hard to argue that there's a better sports bar in San Francisco. As you'd expect, you'll be able to order a plethora of fancied up sports meals: sliders with coleslaw and fries, club sandwiches, nachos, etc.
The thing that you'll likely notice first is the shear size of the establishment. It's on the 3rd and 4th floor of a tall San Francisco building in the Union Square area. We speculated they could have easily have a few hundred people on each floor at any given time. That's enough for like... 15 tech startup parties, or 25 bachelor parties, all taking place simultaneously. Also, it's hard not to notice the very well done glass projection screens. They'll provide a viewing area large enough to view from any part of the room, regardless of how packed it is.
On either floor you'll find a variety of games: multiple pool tables, shuffle board tables, Wack-a-Mole, Duck Hunt, even a giant wheel-of-alcohol that you can challenge a friend and spin to decide your fate. If you're looking to entertain a group of coworkers, show visiting friends a taste of San Francisco culture, or just looking to catch a game around a swath of sports fans and coeds, look no further than Golden Gate Tap Room. It's like Chuck E. Cheese's for adults.

The Bay Area Craft Beer Festival in downtown Martinez began in 2010 to highlight the art and flavor of craft beer in Martinez and surrounding communities. Produced by Main Street Martinez, the festival draws 1,000-2,000 people to enjoy beer from over 30 microbreweries, live music, and food from local restaurants. Pliny The Younger 2012 at Stone Brewery - Epic Beer Dude
I got wind of a non-advertised secret tapping of Russian River's Pliny The Younger happening today...30 minutes later I was there enjoying this elusive nectar of the gods!
Excuse my excitement, I think I called it The Elder a few times and I also said it was a DIPA when actually, it's a Triple IPA.

Tony Bennett - I left my heart in San Francisco
Union Bank of California promo. Beautifully danced by Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu. SF own local halau, lend their talking hands to the story of the city by the bay.
I recently had contact with the director, Jim Yager, and he provided some background on this amazing work of art.
Jim: It was inspired when I saw Na Lei Hulu I Ka Wekiu perform their choreography of this song at KQED for an event. It was one of those lightning strike moments when I saw the whole film produced in my mind's eye as they were dancing gracefully in front of a black curtain. It was just plain serendipity ...
We filmed Hula SF just a few weeks after 9/11 in 2001. We had been making production plans since mid-summer, and had delayed the production a couple of times as their was so much fear and uncertainty in the air here in the city. We finally spent two days with the dancers in all the locations you see in the video in early October, and I will never forget the response from those watching along the sidelines as we filmed. Tears of joy filled their eyes as Mr Bennett's song permeated the air, and the dancers swayed and told the story with their hands. It was a great emotional release for all of us, I think, and a reminder that their was still simple beauty and romance in a world that had been so tilted off its axis. It was one of those pure experiences I will never ever forget. I figured it would air for a few months on KQED and then be forgotten. Amazingly, it's been on their air nearly every day in the six years since then.
