Giant Dunes At Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore - MI, USA
This was our final stop on our camping trip. Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore is a United States National Lakeshore located along the northwest coast of the Lower Peninsula of Michigan in Leelanau and Benzie counties near Empire, Michigan. The park covers a 35-mile-long (56 km) stretch of Lake Michigan's eastern coastline, as well as North and South Manitou islands. This Northern Michigan park was established primarily because of its outstanding natural features, including forests, beaches, dune formations, and ancient glacial phenomena. The lakeshore also contains many cultural features including the 1871 South Manitou Island Lighthouse, three former stations of the Coast Guard (formerly the Life-Saving Service) and an extensive rural historic farm district. In 2011, the area won the title of The Most Beautiful Place in America from Good Morning America.[3] In 2014, a section of the park was named the Sleeping Bear Dunes Wilderness by the United States Congress.

Abandoned Lighthouse Exploring and More at Sleeping Bear Dunes
In the summer of 2016, my brother-in-law joined me for two days at Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. We did one day on South Manitou Island and then one day on the mainland before we were rained out. Northern Michigan - the land of large sand dunes, smoked fish, lighthouses, cherries and beautiful aqua-like lake water. We camped in Empire.
Day Trip to South Manitou Island, Michigan
We spent Labor Day Weekend in Glen Arbor, Michigan. We have been going up to Michigan every Labor Day for over 20 years. The condos where we stay we have always been able to see the islands... but we had never been! So, this year... we decided to take a day and check them out. South Manitou Island did NOT disappoint!
The South Manitou Island Light ... relit !
After 50 years of being dark ... the light is on ... see it here.

[GOPRO] Sleeping Bear Dunes | North Manitou Island | Michigan
English-During Memorial Day weekend 2016, Polish venture scouts from Chicago went to explore new territories in the USA. This time they went to Michigan to explore Sleeping Bear Dunes and hike around North Manitou Island. While still on the mainland they had lots of fun in the sand, jumping off the dunes and doing some front and back flips. They experienced the coldness of Lake Michigan while traveling to North Manitou Island via ferry. Once on the island all the groups set off hiking for the weekend. Each group saw beautiful forests, sunsets, and experienced the 46 degree cold waters of Lake Michigan. This new terrain wasn’t too hard but was perfect for venture scouts who wanted to be in nature and to have time to play around in it.

Sleeping Bear Bay (Glen Arbor) Sunset 03July09
The sunset progression on July 3, 2009 from Sleeping Bear Bay (Glen Arbor, MI) as it sets over the south end of Manitou Island. It had the makings for a spectacular sunset, however it fell slightly short due to clouds far out on the horizon preventing the under-glow of the closer clouds. Named The Most Beautiful Place In America (Good Morning America 2011)

TLT-49.8 Sleeping Bear Dunes Nat'l Lakeshore Park
This video takes me up into an area that I've personally wanted to see for a long time, The Sleeping Bear National Lakeshore Park. As a kid, I had heard the story of the three bears swimming across Lake Michigan, and how the cubs didn't make it and became North and South Manitou Islands. When the broken hearted mother bear came ashore, she sat down on the beach and fell asleep, waiting for her cubs, and was covered by the sand. The three always within sight of one another yet for ever apart.
This video takes us into the Pierce Stocking Scenic Drive, through a covered bridge, along Glen Lake, with a stop a the Dune Over Look, and the Lake Michigan Overlook.
Manitou Kayak Trip - Day Six
DAY SIX: In the summer of 2015 three friends went on a 7-day kayak trip around the North and South Manitou Islands in Lake Michigan. This video documents day six of the trip (August 3, 2015).
In this video we paddled from the west side of North Manitou to around the top of the island to the village campground where we stayed our last night.

Why I Love Michigan
Title says all. Michigan's got everything - dunes, beaches, mountains, lakes and rivers. It's such an easy place to fall in love with. And the water actually looks like the Caribbean (and it's right here in the Midwest!). I made this video to show off the state's summertime beauty. Keep in mind that what you're seeing is only about 10% of what Michigan's got to offer! So definitely take a vacation up there, it's so worth exploring for yourself. Also, Michigan rocks in the spring, fall and winter too - especially if you're into skiing.
I made this with just a GoPro. All of the clips are from my past two summer trips up north (with family and friends).
