A Plain Surprise
Bells rang again from St Giles church at Imber, Wiltshire, December 2011. We came upon it by chance - a delightful surprise on rain-soaked Salisbury Plain - courtesy of military Christmas/New Year leave - and a lot of dedicated volunteers.

More Change Ringing at St Giles - Bubbenhall
The change-ringing bells of St. Giles Church in Bubbenhall; Warwickshire. This clip is a small segment from a monthly guild practice. In terms of the method being rung here, I believe it is Primrose Surprise Minor, if I am remembering right! The bells are a lovely little 6 with the tenor itself being just 5-1-13 (or 237kg). The front 4 were made by Taylors in 2000 and the 5 and 6 are older bells from the 1600s, with the 5 being made by Newcombe in around 1600 and the 6 (tenor) by Henry I Bagley in 1670.
The church itself is also a lovely building thought to be mainly from the 13th and 14th centuries, although the original chapel is earlier, believed to be from the 12th century. The bright sunshine of the day really helps to bring out the church and the surrounding fields although there was still a fair bit of wind, which I’ll attribute to the fact the church is almost on top of a hill.

St Giles Church in Coldwaltham and the 2000 Old Yew Tree
Today I am visiting a lovely church in West Sussex just off A29. I am joined by the lovely Cynthia Julian.
The 13th century Anglican parish church is dedicated to Saint Giles; a rare 11th century gravestone and a simple Saxon font are present on the site. A yew tree near the north west corner is among the oldest in England, believed to be over 3000 years old.
