Visit Woodstock Vermont - Eat - What-to-Do - Stay
Woodstock Vermont has to be where charming was coined when someone visited there for the first time. I am sharing what to do in Woodstock, Vermont, where to eat and where to stay. The village of Woodstock, Vermont was a gift from New Hampshire back in 1761. And it will be a gift to you when you visit Woodstock. If you visit the old wooden red bridge, the Taftsville Covered Bridge, #Taftsville is part of Woodstock. Viewing and photographing the Taftsville Covered Bridge has room on the side of the street for about five cars to park and jump out to take a pic.
After snapping pics of the Taftsville Covered Bridge, keep going six miles on 4 East to the Quechee Gorge Gifts store, park there and walk to the middle of that bridge to view and take tons of pics of the Quechee Gorge. You can easily do this with a wheelchair as well. If you want to hike down the gorge, its entrance is right behind this Quechee Gifts store. There’s a huge parking lot and it’s maybe a 100 foot walk on a sidewalk to the middle of the Quechee Gorge bridge. Quick stop and worth it! #visitwoodstock #woodstockvermont
Walking in downtown Woodstock is easy, with many of the shops and cafes, like Mont Vert Cafe (coffee) and the Ruth's Table and The Mountain Creamery within walking distance when you visit Woodstock, Vermont.
I will share with you where to stay in Woodstock, where to eat when you visit, as well as what to do on your visit.
We loved love loved Ruth's Table, and I don't think I ever said its name in the video. That's where I had the chef-prepared chicken schnitzel and enjoyed a warm atmosphere for dinner.

Episode 1: Get Lost in Woodstock
Woodstock, Vermont is one of the quaintest, most picturesque towns in the world---and disclaimer: it is also my hometown. But trust me, this Rockefeller town has a walking village filled with boutique shops, a center town green, an iconic covered bridge, and nearby working farm-Billings Farm--all of which looks charming in the green summers or snowy winters. The Woodstock Inn & Resort is the backbone of the time, and has been popular with locals & tourists for years.

STORYLINE:
Only one flooded Vermont town remained cut off from the outside world Wednesday, but National Guard helicopters were still dropping food and water on storm-ravaged parts of the state as the Eastern seaboard labored to recover from hurricane-turned-tropical-storm Irene.
About 2 million people remained without power in water-logged homes and businesses from North Carolina through New England, where the storm has been blamed for at least 45 deaths in 13 states. Raging floodwaters continued to ravage parts of northern New Jersey on Wednesday morning, even after the state''s rain-swollen rivers crested and slowly receded.
It''s like an island now, said Falguni Purohip, who owns the Killington Pico Motor Inn on Route 4 in Mendon, Vt., where her family and one guest are trapped. We can''t go anywhere.
The town of Rutland is 15 miles away but impossible to reach because of extensive road damage. Purohip said the family has power and plenty of food and water to keep them going, but no way of leaving. Nearly 11 inches of rain triggered the deluges, which knocked houses off their foundations, destroyed covered bridges and caused earthquake-style damage to infrastructure all over Vermont.
We are dropping water, food and supplies, trying to help out folks who are hurting, said U.S. Army national Guard Capt. David Fabricius, who was working at an airport in Fair Haven, Vt., where ground crews were loading provisions onto helicopters that recently had flown missions in Iraq.
Towns around New Jersey resembled large, soggy yard sales Wednesday as residents dragged flood-damaged belongings out onto lawns and into streets still muddied with floodwaters left behind by Hurricane Irene. In Wallington, a heart-shaped, one-square-mile town of about 12,000 residents, large sections remained inundated with floodwaters from the Passaic River, which winds around the small hamlet and hits it from several angles.
Sunday morning the water was only up to here, said resident Kevin O''Reilly, gesturing to where his front lawn used to meet the sidewalk. Sunday afternoon, the waves were bouncing off the house, and that''s when it blew out the basement windows. It sounded like Niagara Falls. It just filled up immediately, and this is what we''ve been dealing with since then.
New Jersey Gov. Chris Christie said Tuesday night that he saw just extraordinary despair after touring flooded areas.
In Connecticut, the Connecticut River at Hartford crested Tuesday evening at 24.8 feet, the highest level since 1987, according to Nicole Belk, a hydrologist with the National Weather Service, in Taunton, Mass. But she said levees helped minimize flooding in riverside communities.
She said the river could still rise slightly farther south, in Middletown, where some streets and neighborhoods were already experiencing minor flooding.
Vermont''s largest electric utility says a convoy of line crews is headed for the town of Rochester _ where a power substation was completely destroyed by flooding _ to begin work to restore power. Officials say at least five Vermont schools are closed until further notice and about 120 have delayed opening for the school year because of roads or schools ravaged by flooding.
But by Wednesday morning, all but one of the communities _ Wardsboro_ had been reached by ground crews, and emergency management officials were hoping to reach it shortly.

Hurricane Irene Aftermath
Even though NYC was spared this time, there could be some $45 billion in damages along the East Coast. Inland there was epic flooding in places like Vermont, setting off the state's worst deluge in more than 80 years. Many homes and businesses were flooded after 7 inches of rain inundated the state from Irene. During the course of Irene, at least 7.4 million customers lost power, which was nearly double the outages from the last hurricane to make landfall in the United States in 2008. Yes, it could have been much worse, but how much should or would it have been?

SUMMARY
=======
Vermont ( (listen)) is a state in the New England region of the Northeastern United States. It borders the U.S. states of Massachusetts to the south, New Hampshire to the east, New York to the west, and the Canadian province of Quebec to the north. Vermont is the second-smallest by population and the sixth-smallest by area of the 50 U.S. states. The state capital is Montpelier, the least populous state capital in the United States. The most populous city, Burlington, is the least populous city to be the most populous city in a state. As of 2015, Vermont was the leading producer of maple syrup in the United States. It was ranked as the safest state in the country in 2016.For thousands of years indigenous peoples, including the Mohawk and the Algonquian-speaking Abenaki, occupied much of the territory that is now Vermont and was later claimed by France's colony of New France. France ceded the territory to Great Britain after being defeated in 1763 in the Seven Years' War. Thereafter, the nearby colonies, especially the provinces of New Hampshire and New York, disputed the extent of the area called the New Hampshire Grants to the west of the Connecticut River, encompassing present-day Vermont. The provincial government of New York sold land grants to settlers in the region, which conflicted with earlier grants from the government of New Hampshire. The Green Mountain Boys militia protected the interests of the established New Hampshire land grant settlers against the newly arrived settlers with land titles granted by New York.
Ultimately, a group of settlers with New Hampshire land grant titles established the Vermont Republic in 1777 as an independent state during the American Revolutionary War. The Vermont Republic partially abolished slavery before any of the other states. Vermont then became the fourteenth state to be admitted to the newly established United States in 1791. Vermont is one of only four U.S. states that were previously sovereign states (along with California, Hawaii, and Texas), given that the original 13 states were formerly colonies. During the mid 19th century, Vermont was a strong source of abolitionist sentiment and sent a significant contingent of soldiers to participate in the American Civil War.
The geography of the state is marked by the Green Mountains, which run north-south up the middle of the state, separating Lake Champlain and other valley terrain on the west from the Connecticut River valley that defines much of its eastern border. A majority of its terrain is forested with hardwoods and conifers. A majority of its open land is in agriculture. The state's climate is characterized by warm, humid summers and cold, snowy winters. Its largest city, Burlington, had fewer than 50,000 residents, as of 2010. Demographically, the state was 94.3% white, as of 2010. At that time, Protestants (30%) and Catholics (22%) made up the majority of those reporting a religious preference with 37% reporting no religion. Other religions individually contributed no more than 2% to the total.
Vermont's economic activity of $26 billion in 2010 caused it to rank 34th in gross state product. It has been ranked 42nd as a state in which to do business. Politically, Vermont transitioned from being a reliably Republican state to one more liberal starting in 1960. It alternates between Republican and Democratic governors, but has sent only Democrats (or independents) to Congress since 2007. Voters have consistently chosen Democrats for president since 1992. The state became the first to recognize unions for same-sex couples through legislative action with the introduction of civil unions in 2000.

The visit to Quechee Gorge was very interesting. We also had fun taking the tour of Ben & Jerry's Ice Cream Factory and ended the day discovering Smuggler's Notch Pass that was the location used by smugglers years ago to hide their goods while smuggling them into the United States from Canada.
