VIKING VILLAGE & VIKING BATTLE AT TYNWALD, ISLE OF MAN. HOMESCHOOL VISIT
In this visit we visit a Viking camp for Tynwald day in the isle of Man. The children joined other home educated children and children from schools to find out what Viking life was like. They see jewellery being made, metal being smelted, swords being made, try out grinding seeds to make bread. Ending with an epic battle which all the children loved. We hope you liked this video.

The Isle of Man is located in the middle of the northern Irish Sea, almost equidistant from England, Northern Ireland, Scotland (closest), and Wales (farthest). It is 52 kilometres (32 mi) long and, at its widest point, 22 kilometres (14 mi) wide. It has an area of around 572 square kilometres (221 sq mi). Besides the island of Mann itself, the political unit of the Isle of Man includes some nearby small islands: the seasonally inhabited Calf of Man, Chicken Rock on which stands an unmanned lighthouse, St Patrick's Isle and St Michael's Isle. The last two of these are connected to the main island by permanent roads/causeways.
Ranges of hills in the north and south are separated by a central valley. The northern plain, by contrast, is relatively flat, consisting mainly of deposits from glacial advances from western Scotland during colder times. There are more recently deposited shingle beaches at the northernmost point, the Point of Ayre. The island has one mountain higher than 600 metres (2,000 ft), Snaefell, with a height of 620 metres (2,034 ft). According to an old saying, from the summit one can see six kingdoms: those of Mann, Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, and Heaven. Some versions add a seventh kingdom, that of the sea, or Neptune

Kipper
A kipper is a whole herring, a small, oily fish, that has been split in butterfly fashion from tail to head along the dorsal ridge, gutted, salted or pickled, and cold-smoked over smouldering woodchips.
In the United Kingdom, Isle of Man, Japan, and a minority of North American regions they are often eaten for breakfast. In Great Britain, kippers, along with other preserved smoked or salted fish such as the bloater and buckling, were also once commonly enjoyed as a high tea or supper treat, most popularly with inland and urban working-class populations before World War II.

Patriot or Traitor? | The Life & Times of Illiam Dhone
Personally I think both are strong words, not that this is a hill I'm willing to die on. There was originally so much more I wanted to talk about - more info on Illiam's father and the Stanleys, plus the court case following Illiam's death that defined the island's relationship to England, but I couldn't fit it all. But if you're really interested, the book has it all. (This episode isn't sponsored, just thought it was a good read). Footnotes and music timestamps. coming later today.
Illiam Dhone: Patriot or Traitor? -
Footnotes:
0:45 - Technically Dhone wasn't his name, but his epithet, meaning dark as in dark-haired. How dark hair made him stand out escapes me, but yeah Illiam Dhone means Dark (haired) William
1:25 - James Stanley was sent to be executed at Bolton, where he was supposedly connected to a massacre that took place during the civil war. However, the people at Bolton seemed to like him since they refused to build the scaffold he was hanged on, forcing Cromwell's soldiers to do it themselves.
1:40 - This was the siege of Lathom House, the Stanley's home in Lancashire.
3:14 - It's debated if this criminalizes Illiam or not. The money was expected to be paid on account of the island being claimed by the Commonwealth a few years before it submitted to Duckenfield. The charges were later dropped, but he did flee the island in a pretty shifty way.
3:20 - The rebellion was led by someone who had a bone to pick with the new government. It's possible Illiam was spurring him on from England, letting the hate flow through him, but the man himself never implicated Illiam.
4:35 - Part of the thing that the book deals with that I had to gloss over is how Illiam's death led to a court case where Charles Stanley was told that being in charge of the Isle of Man does not make him a king. But of course in greater detail and with more specifics.
Music in order of appearance:
0:00 Manx National Anthem
0:29 Kevin Macleod - Hidden Past
0:38 Arany Zoltan - Three Little Boats
4:36 The Bee Gees - How Deep is Your Love
