The Art of Crabbing experience at Torpedo Wharf early Spring trip!
This was a rather successful crabbing expedition out at Torpedo Wharf in San Francisco's historic Marina waterfront. Everyone went home with crab to eat for that night.

Enjoying The Views From SF`s Torpedo Wharf (5-27-2018)
Enjoying the sights from SF's Torpedo Wharf. The views are quite scenic here indeed. This was during me and my family’s Memorial Day weekend outing to Crissy Field/SF... Here's our day in summary: We had a nice view of the Golden Gate Bridge from our designated picnic spot, along with a stunning city view of the distant Downtown SF. We also walked around the trails around the Golden Gate Bridge Outdoor Exhibition & even walked a bit on the bridge…The weather was pretty nice out for such an outing! Anyways, 'til next time, safe travels everyone! (Family outing taken place on Sunday, May 27, 2018)
*Did you know? Torpedo Wharf is a wharf in the Presidio of San Francisco, in the U.S. state of California. The site has been a wharf since 1854, and earned its current name when the United States Army built a naval mine depot c. 1907–1909. The current wharf was established in 1941, and now serves as a popular tourist destination...

Red and rock crabbing at Torpedo Wharf in San Francisco
Video was taken 12/9/2018 at Torpedo Wharf in San Francisco. This was a decent haul using squid left in the water for about 20 minutes. Karen and Shaggs booked this experience through
After 4 hours of crabbing we walked home with 12 good sized keepers. The Dungeness crab are small and looking healthy which is a good sign for crabbing seasons to come hopefully.
Fishing the San Francisco Piers
We heard a lot about the fishing in San Francisco and decided to investigate it for ourselves. First we went to the municipal pier right next to the Ghirardelli factory, and were harassed by crabs who kept eating our bate. We were able to hook a halibut but as it came to the top of the water it bent our hook and got away. Next we went to a public parking lot on the east side of the Bay Bridge, piers 30-32, and caught two halibut and two bat rays. It’s a neat spot because you can park your car right next to the water and the fishing there was better than the municipal pier! This video is a heads up to anyone interested in fishing the San Francisco Bay Area! There are fish out there! You just gotta find them (:
Eric B’s Daily Vlogs #510 - Crissy Field’s Torpedo Warf
When it comes to finding locations for that picture-perfect shot of the Golden Gate Bridge, the Presidio offers many choices - the Main Post, East Beach, and the scenic overlooks along Lincoln Boulevard, to name a few. But there's one spot that just might have them all beat: Torpedo Wharf. Located a short distance from the West Bluff picnic area, Torpedo Wharf offers unmatched views of the International Orange icon as well as of the San Francisco city skyline.
Built to aid in the construction of nearby Fort Point, there's been a wharf at this site since 1854. Over the years, it's been rebuilt several times and finally became Torpedo Wharf when the Army constructed a submarine mine depot here around 1907-1909. The Army used the wharf to plant underwater mines as part of the harbor defense.
These days, the current wharf – which dates back to 1941 – is used for more peaceful activities. Besides the snap-happy tourists who come here to take epic selfies, Torpedo Wharf is a popular destination for locals looking to do some crabbing or fishing. If you want to try your luck, remember Dungeness crabs are off limits, but there are still plenty of red crabs and rock crabs available!
Winds can pick up fairly quickly on the wharf, so be sure to bring extra layers with you. If you're looking for a cozy shelter, there's always the Warming Hut – conveniently located near the wharf so you can easily take a break to grab a hot cocoa on a cold day.
