La Laguna (Tenerife) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Vacation travel video about destination La Laguna in Tenerife.
Within a high valley in the north of Tenerife, the largest of the Canary Island’s set in the Atlantic Ocean, is the city of San Cristóbal De La Laguna. As evidence of a glorious past, the city centre contains several beautiful buildings such as the Town Hall, built of volcanic rock, and situated in the Plaza Del Adelantado which was named after the leader of the erstwhile, Conquista. Like a chessboard, the narrow streets are lined with many buildings and palaces that date back to earlier times and spacious courtyards that act as oases of silence. The old town contains the most well-preserved seventeenth and eighteenth century buildings on the island and in 1999 La Laguna’s historic centre was designated as a World Heritage Site.

San Cristobal de La Laguna - UNESCO World Heritage Site
The UNESCO World Heritage site of San Cristobal de La Laguna (or La Laguna for short), is a Spanish colonial city and the former capital of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. It was founded by the Spanish after their conquest of the islands in the late 15th century, and as the capital city of the colony it became hugely important to the development of cities across the New World. Even today, towns in southern and central America such has Havana, Cartagena, San Juan de Puerto Rico, and Lima, all show the influence of the town planning concepts developed right here. Fascinating!

San Cristóbal de La Laguna (UNESCO/NHK)
San Cristóbal de La Laguna, in the Canary Islands, has two nuclei: the original, unplanned Upper Town; and the Lower Town, the first ideal 'city-territory' laid out according to philosophical principles. Its wide streets and open spaces have a number of fine churches and public and private buildings dating from the 16th to the 18th century.

Our First Impressions Of San Cristóbal de La Laguna - Tenerife
For our For 91 Days on Tenerife we chose to live in a house north of San Cristóbal de La Laguna. So La Laguna would be our second home, for sure. The entire historiccenter is protected by the UNESCO was a model for the colonial architecture of Spain, hence the importance.
We love walking through La Laguna's old town center, to admire the buildings while paying attention to details like balconies, doorknobs, wooden doors and windows. La Laguna is also known as a city with a great nightlife thanks to the university.

Capital of Tenerife. Metropolitan area city.
San Cristóbal de La Laguna known as La Laguna was the first capital of Tenerife and the Canary Islands. Later the new capital was named Santa Cruz until the archipelago was divided into two provinces. At the moment both cities are united urbanistically forming an extensive metropolitan area with an old helmet located in La Laguna and the most modern part to the center of Santa Cruz where also historical buildings can be found. La Cuesta is one of the best-known neighborhoods from which this video was recorded in the summer of 2017.
