San Francisco The Presidio Picnic: Mega Lunch Truck Fun and Gorgeous Urban Post-Lunch Hike
Situated just north of Golden Gate Park is another local favorite, The Presidio (National Park). March through October, families roll out their blankets on the Main Parade Ground every Sunday for the Presidio Picnic, a mega lunch truck event featuring the 25 best international food trucks in the Bay Area (rotating on a regular basis). Relax to tunes, cultural dances, lawn games, yoga, and face painting for the kids.
Then burn off all those calories with an urban hike around Presidio's diverse trails. I'll show you the short, moderate hike hitting all the main highlights including Inspiration Point, Cemetery Overlook, El Polin Spring, and the fabulous Spire art installation, among other things. But you can also do much longer hikes out to beaches & bluffs and along the bay coastline.

Union Square, Nob Hill, and Chinatown - Urban Hiker SF
The Union Square, Nob Hill, and Chinatown Tour explores 3 of San Francisco’s most central and historic neighborhoods in 3 ½ miles and 2 ½ hours.
The hike starts right in Union Square, now famous for shopping, but once a gathering place for celebrating Union victories in the Civil War.
From here, you’ll take in the sights of Nob Hill—the Fairmont Hotel, The Pacific Union Club, Grace Cathedral, and the Cable Car Museum—learning about San Francisco before and after the Great Earthquake and Fire of 1906.
From Nob Hill, you head into Chinatown, visiting places like the Chinatown Gate, the Golden Gate Fortune Cookie Factory, and the location where Gold Rush was announced to the world.
We take a quick trip to North Beach to visit Jack Kerouac Alley and City Lights Bookstore and visit the Transamerica Pyramid and Transamerica Redwood Park—all before arriving back at Union Square.
Searching for the Best Golden Gate Bridge Photo Spot
In San Francisco, I'm looking for the best place for photography of the Golden Gate Bridge.
Find my photography of The Golden Gate Bridge on IG at @brendanvanson.
Here in San Francisco, I woke up early this morning to try a couple new photo locations. I wanted to get a cool photo of the Golden Gate Bridge. And, the truth is, there are hundreds of places to shoot photography of the bridge. And, in the past, I've shot a number of different locations already. Some have been amazing, some have been let downs. Today, I started with Baker Beach.
A good photo spot for the Golden Gate Bridge should have an interesting vantage point. And, in my photography, an important thing is having a foreground to the photo. Baker Beach just didn't have that. And, to be honest, in my scramble to try to find somewhere cool to shoot, I really didn't get a photo at all. But, I pushed over to Marshall's beach.
Marshall's Beach is actually the best place to photograph the golden gate bridge. It's close, it's got lots of cool foregrounds, and there is just a lot of drama there. After taking a couple pictures, I headed back into San Francisco to get @alajode to explore Fisherman's Wharf and some other spots.
Then, in the evening, we went looking for another Golden Gate Bridge photography location. This time, we headed to Fort Baker on the opposite side of the bridge. It made for a really cool place to take pictures. And, though the light was not great. I got some cool photos here.
Tomorrow, on the photography channel, I'm going to Marin Headlands; famously known among locals for being the best place to photograph the Golden Gate Bridge.

More about this video: In this video Chad and I just share a typical day in our life while living in our short bus conversion touring around San Francisco. Neither of us had any idea how much we would love this city, but are enjoying every moment of being in this serene environment. Everyday we tell ourselves this is going to be our last day and then we're moving on ... we end up staying another night so we can wake up to this beautiful view again in the morning. That's really what guides this trip, the energy we feel from the various locations we visit. So far the bus conversion has had no issues making it up super huge hills in San Francisco. A day in the life video based in San Francisco is really no different than any of our normal days spent in the bus. That's really the best thing about traveling in our skoolie conversion... home is with us where ever we go. It's a pretty great feeling, I must say. Anyway, thank you so much for watching another one of our daily travel vlogs -- please let us know in the comments what you thought of this video! We love hearing from you.

Exploring Trails in San Francisco
We went on a family trip down to San Francisco, and we decided to bring the bikes. This wasn't the best idea, but we make it work!
Urban Hiker San Francisco Presents: Walk on the Wild Side Urban Hike
From urbanhikersf.com/hikes/
This hike starts with an almost-off-the-map park and leads you to and through the rocky hills and wooden steps of Glen Canyon Park. After a thorough exploration of the park, we'll head over to a hidden gem of a hill with some of the best views in the southern part of the city. You can embrace your inner child on a secret rope swing or as we walk through a playground during our exploration of Diamond Heights. We explore a few final hidden stairways and trails before we head on a new path through Glen Canyon Park and back to our start.

Hiking up Twin Peaks from the Castro - San Francisco, CA
Going to Twin Peaks? Sure, to capture amazing views of the SF city and bay, Twin Peaks is no doubt one of the best views of SF....perhaps, shoulder to shoulder competition with Golden Gate Bridge. I used to drive up there, but this time I chose heading up there on foot instead of driving. Wow, it was fun and interesting!
I started the walk from the west end (20th and Douglass) of the Castro district. Walking through beautiful Victorian homes with flower gardens and seeing local scenes are quite interesting and educational. It makes you appreciate what SF offers with its beautiful scenery and unique character within in small details. And it's a good workout to walk up and down neighborhood stairways and streets, and the trails to Twin Peaks - Eureka Peak (north peak) and Noe Peak (south peak). Highly recommend!
360 panorama in all directions.....to the east - Oakland/Berkeley, East Bay hills, Mt. Diablo, Mission District, Potrero Hill and Bernal Hill; to the south - Mt. Davidson, Diamond Heights, San Bruno Mountain and Santa Cruz Mountains; to the west - Sunset District, Pacific Ocean and Daly City; to the north - downtown San Francisco, Golden Gate Park, Golden Gate Bridge, Marin Headands and Marin County with Mt. Tam.
Twin Peaks is also known for gusty wind, so bring a jacket with you and choose a less windy day for the trip.
Golden Gate Park Urban Hike via Haight Ashbury to Ocean Beach - San Francisco, CA
This is a great urban hike through Golden Gate Park from Haight Ashbury to Ocean Beach. It's about 4 miles one way starting from Haight Ashbury. GGP is one of the largest and most visited parks in US. The park is about 3 miles long, 1/2 mile wide. Shuttle service is available in the park if you want to trek one way or partially.
I used to come to GGP for events and occasions, but, wow, you realize how big the park is if you walk through it end to end! And there are many wonderful things you probably never knew that have existed in the park. Surprise!
