Old Dubbo Gaol 2019
In February 2019 we visited Old Dubbo Gaol which is located in Macquarie street Dubbo New South Wales Australia.
The Dubbo Gaol was erected on the site of the original courthouse. It is believed to have been officially opened in 1887. Many of the buildings however were already in existence by this time. Many changes and new buildings followed. The surrounding wall also changed shape. Closed as a gaol in 1966, the complex re-opened as a tourist attraction in 1974.
In 2015 Old Dubbo Jail won a silver prize in the cultural tourism category of the 12th Travel Inland Tourism Awards. The Gaol was inducted into the Tourism Hall of Fame. In August 2016 the gaol was closed to allow extensive restoration and renovation of the site.
The Old Dubbo Gaol is a small, compact gaol located within the central business district of Dubbo. The enclosing wall is extensive and high. It is built of Dubbo red-brown bricks in English bond, with piers, laid in lime mortar. Above the north-eastern corner of the wall is a watchtower having a wide eaved roof of corrugated iron. Originally a catwalk extended from the watchtower. The structure inside the gaol wall include the main male cell block with 12 ordinary cells and specialised cells comprising two solitary confinement cells, a padded cell, a condemned cell; the female cell block comprising two cells, a bathroom and exercise yard; the infirmary and kitchen block, including a kitchen, infirmary, Library, bathroom, two store rooms, two offices; two remand yards adjacent to a debtors exercise yard and an early toilet block, laundry building with toilets and fenced exercise yards, sanitary disposal facility, toilet. The buildings are mainly sandstone with hipped corrugated iron roofs, while the entrance, watchtower and women's cell block are of brick. The infirmary and kitchen and the male exercise yard feature simple wooden brackets to the verandah posts. The gallows were re-erected

Welcome to Dubbo, a town full of activity located in Central West of New South Wales.
Come with us as we adventure through Taronga Western Plains Zoo meeting zoo keepers, befriending giraffes and elephants alike. With the never-ending drought and the Level 4 water restrictions, we try our best to conserve water by visiting our local brewery, Devil’s Elbow, to drink beer instead.

EMMA THOMSON Q&A, WPCC, Dubbo, 2013 (PART 2 OF 2)
Sydney based photographer Emma Thomson has been Artist-in-Residence at the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo since January 2013. Her project examines the rise of female hunters through collaborative portraits. A selection of this work has already been exhibited in May at Galerie pompom, Sydney as part of the Head On photo festival, with the full exhibition featuring at WPCC in April 2014.
Emma recently spoke in Dubbo about her career, work methods and her current project.

Bermadette Fay on Alarm Fatigue and Super Critical Mass
Bernadette Fay is Hospital Executive at Dubbo Hospital & Health Service and President of Base Arts Inc, an arts in healthcare program. When Object: Australian Design Centre's creative program CUSP: Designing into the Next Decade toured to the Western Plains Cultural Centre in Dubbo, Bernadette attended the opening where the insights of the designers, particularly those of Super Critical Mass, opened her eyes to a new way of approaching critical issues in emergency healthcare, specifically that of alarm fatigue.

How Dubbo Zoo is keeping our kids in touch with culture and country
Each year, thousands of people visit here, to see the elephants, Tigers, lions, and rhinos and other creatures that call this park home. But the zoo doesn't just cater for the tourist trade...The Walanmurra program has been set up to help Indigenous children from the local Dubbo community to connect with culture and country through a unique, hands on learning experience. NITV News Presenter Natalie Ahmat spoke with Taronga's aboriginal Education Officer, Kirsty Hargraves.
