Wheeler Ferris Wheel - Oklahoma City
We visit the Wheeler Ferris Wheel in Oklahoma City on Saturday July 23rd, 2016.
The Wheeler Ferris Wheel is a great place to visit for a little family fun, or a neat little romantic date, or just to hang out and enjoy the atmosphere.
The ferris wheel also has a unique story. The wheel was made by Chance Rides Manufacturing for the 1996 opening of Pacific Park on Santa Monica pier in Santa Monica, California. During its life there the wheel was featured in 28 movies and more than 130 TV shows but it's most famous spot was in the movie Iron Man. The Ferris wheel gave roughly 3 million rides in it's 12 years at the pier.
In 2008 Pacific Park auctioned it off on eBay and Grant Humphreys bought it for $132,400 and made it clear his intentions to bring it to the sooner state.
Now it's known as the Wheeler Ferris Wheel and it stands proudly and beautifully along the banks of the Oklahoma River on grounds of the old Downtown Airpark. It will be part of a new urban development at the site that will be developed over the next several years. The wheel has over 100,000 LED lights, is 9 stories tall, over 100ft in the Oklahoma sky, is 30ft wide, has 20 gondolas, and seats hundreds of riders every hour. You can also find a snack bar and a beautiful seating area. Come for a ride or just to sit and watch. Don't forget the awesome photo spot in front of the wheel with the famous OKC letters sculpture that is 10 foot tall and 27 feet wide which was created by Hugh Meade.
Hope you enjoy the video.
