Cheyenne Wyoming State Capitol Building! This is probably the most deserted largest city in a state I've ever seen!!
The Wyoming State Capitol is the state capitol and seat of government of the U.S. state of Wyoming. Built between 1886 and 1890, the capitol is located in Cheyenne and contains the chambers of the Wyoming State Legislature and well as the office of the Governor of Wyoming. It was designated a U.S. National Historic Landmark during 1987.

Wyoming: Cheyenne
Cheyenne is the capital and most populous city of Wyoming.It was named for the American Indian Cheyenne nation, one of the most famous and prominent Great Plains tribes
As of the census of 2010, there were 59,467 people, 25,558 households, and 15,270 families residing in the city.
The Wyoming State Capitol was constructed between 1886 and 1890, with further improvements being completed in 1917.
Nellie Davis Tayloe Ross (November 29, 1876 – December 19, 1977) was the 14th Governor of Wyoming from 1925 to 1927 and director of the United States Mint from 1933 to 1953. She was the first woman to be sworn in as governor of a U.S. state, and remains the only woman to have served as governor of Wyoming.
The Union Pacific and BNSF railroads intersect in Cheyenne. The city is home to a BNSF railyard, as well as the Union Pacific's steam program.
The eight foot tall cowboy boots have been carefully painted by local artists to show Wyoming's and Cheyenne's history.
Cheyenne has the atmosphere of a frontier town. Cheyenne is the unmistakably cowboy country. Just as the Wrangler store trade mark slogan states::Long live the cowboy!

Capitol building in Cheyenne, Wyoming. Ground broke on September 9, 1886, the cornerstone was laid on May 18, 1887, and it was built for $131,275.12. It looks similar to the National Capitol Building in Washington, D.C. The first two courses (layer of masonry) are made from sandstone from Fort Collins, Colorado quarries; remainder is of sandstone from Rawlins, Wyoming quarries.
The Capitol is bordered on the South by 24th St., the West by Carey Ave., the North by the Herschler Building, and the East by Central Ave. The replica of the Liberty Bell is at the SouthWest corner. The Spirit of Wyoming cowboy & horse statue lies to the West. The bronze Bison statue is on the East side. The Esther Hobart Morris statue lies at the base of the steps and faces South. The Calf statue is on the South. The Spanish American War statue is to the SouthEast. The Capitol faces the Train Depot to the South.

Cheyenne Capitol - Interior - Wyoming State Capital
This video is the interior of the Wyoming State Capitol located in Cheyenne. It was built between 1886 and 1890. See my other videos for more information.
The building is #73001935 in the National Historic Landmarks.
The building is about 300 feet long (East to West) by about 83 to 112 feet wide. The main portion is about 60 feet high, but the top of the spire on the dome is 146 feet up. See my other videos for external shots.
The Secretary of States office is in the South-West corner of the first floor. The Governor's office in the South-East corner of the first floor. There is a statue of Chief Washakie on the first floor facing the main South entrance.
The House of Representatives Chamber is at the East end of the second floor. The Senate on the West end.
The third floor contains balconies overlooking the lower rooms as well as conference rooms.

Cheyenne is Wyoming’s most populated city. When the railroad was constructed in 1860 this “hell-like settlement at end of the railroad” became an important trading centre. For what was to become the federal government, the State Capitol was built and with its golden dome and Corinthian columns it is similar to its larger counterpart in Washington.In the middle of the eighteenth century French scouts were the first to penetrate this region that was then inhabited by the Arapaho and Shoshone Indians. The cowboys and farmers of the Old West needed to spend their hard earned money and Cheyenne profited accordingly and a profusion of hotels, saloons and warehouses suddenly appeared. The Badlands was given its name by the Native Indians due to the inhospitable terrain as they felt threatened by it. Thirty seven million years of wind, rain and snow transformed this highland into a natural work of art that was inaugurated as a national park in 1978. Set within the Black Hills in the state of South Dakota is one of the most famous landmarks in the United States, the Mount Rushmore National Memorial where four monumental portraits of the most famous American presidents have been carved into the granite and symbolize a kind of spectacular tribute to democracy. Twenty five kilometres south west of Mount Rushmore another stone image towers up from the landscape, the Crazy Horse Memorial. Constructed in 1947 it commemorates the famous chief of the Oglala Sioux and its dimensions are even larger than those of Mount Rushmore. As in former times, the routes of the first pioneers still bring visitors into the far west through overwhelming mountain scenery with grandiose views, Wild West towns, buffalo prairies and vast ranches. Make no mistake about it, America’s Wild West is still wild: a place of natural spectacles and nostalgic adventure!

4K City Walks: Cheyenne, Wyoming Tour of Capitol City - Virtual Walk Treadmill City guide Vid is a simple, free walking tour around the capital city of Wyoming. I rolled into town off I-25 in late afternoon. That time of year, I only had an hour of golden autumn light to film. The afternoon was cold and brisk but the light was fantastic. Cheyenne is just over the Colorado border and has a colorful past based primarily around ranching but more recently, around the air force base and politics. The architecture downtown near the railroad tracks and old train station speaks of the old west but gets more modern as you make your way up to the Capitol building. I’d love to get back and explore more of the city someday and spend more than a couple hours there. Let me know our personal connections to Cheyenne, WY in the comments below.

Cheyenne is the northern terminus of the extensive Southern Rocky Mountain Front, which extends southward to Albuquerque, New Mexico and includes the fast-growing Front Range Urban Corridor. Cheyenne is situated on Crow Creek and Dry Creek. The Cheyenne metropolitan area had a 2010 population of 91,738, making it the 354th-most populous metropolitan area in the United States.
On July 5, 1867, General Grenville M. Dodge and his survey crew plotted the site now known as Cheyenne in Dakota Territory (later Wyoming Territory). This site was chosen as the point at which the Union Pacific Railroad crossed Crow Creek, a tributary of the South Platte River. The city was not named by Dodge, as his memoirs state, but rather by friends who accompanied him to the area Dodge called Crow Creek Crossing. It was named for the American Indian Cheyenne tribe, one of the most famous and prominent Great Plains tribes closely allied with the Arapaho.
The construction of the Union Pacific Railroad brought hopes of prosperity to the region when it reached Cheyenne on November 13, 1867. The population at the time numbered over 4,000, and grew rapidly. This rapid growth earned the city the nickname Magic City of the Plains.
In 1867, Fort D. A. Russell was established, three miles (5 km) west of the city. The fort was later renamed Francis E. Warren Air Force Base.
The Wyoming State Capitol was constructed between 1886 and 1890, with further improvements being completed in 1917.
The Wyoming Stock Growers Association met at The Cheyenne Club, which allegedly acted as an interim government for the territory. Many of the WSGA's rules and regulations became state laws.
The Cheyenne Regional Airport was opened in 1920, initially serving as a stop for airmail. It soon developed into a civil-military airport, serving DC-3s and various military craft. During World War II, hundreds of B-17s, B-24s, and PBYs were outfitted and upgraded at the airfield. Today, it serves a number of military functions, as well as a high-altitude testbed for civilian craft.

The Capitol Square Project - A Progress Report
We go inside the construction zone and share with you all of the components of the Capitol Square project with Wendy Madson from the Legislative Service Office and members of the construction team from JE Dunn. Jackson Hole was originally populated by Native American tribes including the Shoshoni, Crow, Blackfeet, Bannock, and Gros Ventre. John Colter entered Jackson Hole during the winter of 1807/1808 during the return journey of the Lewis & Clark expedition. The area became a prime area for trappers and many famous mountain men traveled through the area in the early 1800s. These mountain men are responsible for many of the names in the valley including Bridger, Jedediah Smith, and Sublette. David Jackson gave his name to the valley after a winter spent on the shores of Jackson Lake.
As part of the Hayden Expedition of 1871 and 1872, William Henry Jackson took the first photographs of the Teton Mountains and Yellowstone. His photographs, along with the sketches by Tom Moran, were important evidence to convince Congress to protect Yellowstone National Park. Yellowstone National Park became the first National Park in 1872. Grand Teton National Park was created in 1920 and greatly expanded in 1950 through the generous efforts of John D. Rockefeller, Jr., who purchased and then donated over 30,000 acres.
The Town of Jackson was named in 1894. Some of the early buildings remain and can be found throughout the area of the Town Square. The Town of Jackson elected the first all-woman city council in 1920.
The first ski rope tow was built at Teton Pass in 1937 and Snow King Resort was established in 1930. Teton County now boasts three excellent ski areas including Jackson Hole Mountain Resort in Teton Village, Grand Targhee Ski and Summer Resort located on the West slope of the Tetons, and Snow King Resort.
The Town of Jackson is the county seat of Teton County and the only incorporated municipality in the region. Less than 3% of land in Teton County is privately owned. 97% of the 2,697,000 acres in Teton County are federally or state owned/managed.
In 2009, the Town of Jackson was designated as a Preserve America Community. This designation recognizes that, as a community, we protect and celebrate our heritage, use historic assets for economic development and encourage people to experience and appreciate local historic resources.
