The capital of Costa Rica, San José not only boasts an idyllic location in the heart of Central American’s coffee country, but also an enviable climate, and is a prosperous and vibrant metropolis. The Avenida Secunda is the name of the main artery that runs through its centre, a wide road usually crammed with taxis and buses. At first glance the city is anything but beautiful. Noisy, smelly, and the hectic traffic travcls threateningly along its streets and alleys making it a serious challenge for those pedestrians who dare to cross the road. However, a glimpse beyond San José’s chaotic façade soon reveals its inescapable charm. The more that the coffee producers from the surrounding slopes prospered, the more the city blossomed bringing parks, squares, mansions and magnificent buildings, including the attractive Edificio Metalico, a building that consists entirely of prefabricated metal parts. The items were made in Belgium, shipped to Costa Rica and then welded together in 1892. Music and dance are to be found throughout Costa Rica and in song and dance the South American temperament is plain to see. The music of the Central American countries is strongly influenced by a native African xylophone-like instrument, the marimba, along with punchy brass and lively rhythms. San José has a relatively short but turbulent history, punctured by several devastating earthquakes, but its irresistible charm lives on!

San José is divided into 11 districts : Catedral, Carmen, Hatillo, Hospital, Uruca, Mata Redonda, Merced, Pavas, San Francisco de Dos Ríos, San Sebastián, Zapote. The districts are divided up into a number of neighborhoods
San José is the capital of Costa Rica, head of the province of San José, and the nation's largest city. Located in the Central Valley, San José is the seat of national government, the focal point of political and economic activity, and the major transportation hub of this Central American nation. The population of San José Canton is 288,054, though the metropolitan area stretches beyond the canton limits and comprises a third of the country's population.Culturally, the city can be considered almost entirely European influenced, in part because of Spanish immigration soon after Costa Rica's discovery by Christopher Columbus, and the privileged classes which generally studied in Europe during the nineteenth century and early twentieth century. This can be seen in the architecture of the city, namely theatres, museums and houses in the city centre. It is named in honor of Joseph of Nazareth.Though few people live in the city center, it is the most important working area of the country, which brings in more than a million people daily. Despite its problems, according to studies in Latin America, San José is still one of the safest and least violent cities in the region. In 2006 the city was appointed Ibero-American Capital of Culture.San José is also the sixth most important destination in Latin America, according to The MasterCard Global Destinations Cities Index 2012. In the global ranking, San Jose obtained the 15th position among the world's top 20 fastest growing destination cities by visitor cross-border spending.
The population grew during the eighteenth century colonial planning, which was different from the traditional foundation plans of Spanish cities in the continent.
History:
Founded in 1738 by order of Cabildo de León, its objective was to concentrate the scattered inhabitants of the Aserrí Valley. To do so, the construction of a chapel near the area known as La Boca del Monte was ordered, this was completed two years later. That year St. Joseph was chosen as parish patron, hence its current name. The chapel, which was very modest, was erected with help from the church of Cartago.San Jose had water problems, and that was one of the main reasons that the population grew slowly. However, the water supply was assured by ditches, and the fertility of the surrounding fields along with the installation of the Tobacco Factory of Costa Rica, which would aide urban concentration.
As San Jose, unlike what happened to Cartago, was not founded with a formal act of foundation, it was not considered as a city or town, and consequently the city lacked a city government. It was not until the enactment of the Constitution of Cadiz in 1812 when San Jose had its first city government. In 1813, the Spanish parliament gave the town the title of city, which was then lost in 1814 when Ferdinand VII of Spain annulled the proceedings by the courts. The municipal government was restored in 1820 with the title of city population.
San José is one of the youngest capital cities in Latin America by year of conception, though it was not named capital until 1823.
Today it is a modern city with bustling commerce, brisk expressions of art and architecture, and spurred by the country's improved tourism industry, it is a significant destination and stopover for foreign visitors.San José exerts a strong influence because of its proximity to other cities (Alajuela, Heredia and Cartago) and the country's demographic assemblage in the Central Valley.

Escazu,Santa Ana Costa Rica Neighbors Luxury Homes Costa Rica
Introduction:
Thinking to move and live in Costa Rica? Maybe for work or personal change? We will talk about the 2 most attractive neighborhoods in San Jose Costa Rica.
San Jose is Costa Rica’s capitol, it is surrounded by mountains and volcanoes, we have here different micro climates so temperature could go from like 62 to like 82 degrees Fahrenheit but this will depend on the location, there are different nice neighborhoods in San Jose but the most famous ones are Escazu and Santa Ana.
Why these locations? Those are the locations that have grown the most in the last 20 years so they offer the best amenities and from there is closer to go the beach.
Escazu: Located at an altitude around 1100 feet over the sea level on a the mountains, this is the first destination of many because it has a very nice weather and at night it gets much cooler, Escazu also offers amazing city views from most of the locations, modern infrastructure such as malls, strip malls, office parks, restaurants and more.
The area is very safe and beautiful to walk and enjoy a more modern city life style. Basically Escazu is more like many modern cities in the world. From this location to Downtown is about 25 minutes and to the closest nice beach around 60 minutes.
Santa Ana: Altitude around 900 Feet over sea level and located just around lets say 10 minutes away from Escazu, due to it’s attitude Santa Ana offers warmer climate and flatter land, the area has been developed a lot and it is still developing more however, still in Santa Ana you can feel a little more Costa Rica living style but it’s also a location with many first class amenities and things to do. It is also very safe and in this location you would be closer to 1 of the best golf course camps in the city. From this location your will spend around 35 minutes to downtown and 45 minutes to the closest nice beach.
Final comments,
About housing, both locations have very nice options; prices will be different just based on each individual property characteristics, both locations have great amenities including bilingual schools and great access to all areas but if you like panoramic city views and volcano views , you will find more options in Escazu! My final advice, before making a move, just come to Costa Rica, spend a few days and decide. There are more very nice locations in Costa Rica but in this video just wanted to refer to these 2 located in the biggest city in all Costa Rica.
