Hantsport is a Canadian community located in Hants County, Nova Scotia. It is administratively part of the Municipality of the District of West Hants. The community is located at the western boundary between Hants County and Kings County, along the west bank of the Avon River's tidal estuary. The community is best known for its former industries, including shipbuilding, a pulp mill, as well a marine terminal that once loaded gypsum,mined near Windsor. The community is the resting place of Victoria Cross recipient William Hall, VC.

It is best known as a globally significant fossil location for Lagerstätte of the Tournaisian Stage period.

2. Fundy Trail Parkway St Martins
The Bay of Fundy is a bay between the Canadian provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, with a small portion touching the US state of Maine. It has an extremely high tidal range. Portions of the Bay of Fundy, Shepody Bay and Minas Basin, form one of six Canadian sites in the Western Hemisphere Shorebird Reserve Network, and are classified as a Hemispheric site. It is administered by the provinces of New Brunswick and Nova Scotia, and the Canadian Wildlife Service, and is managed in conjunction with Ducks Unlimited Canada and the Nature Conservancy of Canada.

3. Fundy National Park Alma
Fundy National Park is located on the Bay of Fundy, near the village of Alma, New Brunswick. The Park showcases a rugged coastline which rises up to the Canadian Highlands, the highest tides in the world and more than 25 waterfalls. The Park covers an area of 207 km2 along Goose Bay, the northwestern branch of the Bay of Fundy. When one looks across the Bay, they can see the northern Nova Scotia coast. At low tide, park visitors can explore the ocean floor where a variety of sea creatures cling to life. At high tide, the ocean floor disappears under 15 m of salt water. There are 25 hiking trails throughout the park. The Caribou Plains trail and boardwalk provides access to upland forest and bog habitats. Dickson Falls is the most popular trail in the park. `Leader Island` is an undeveloped private gem of approximately 10 ac, conveniently located close to the mainland in spectacular Jeddore Harbor, Nova Scotia, an easy 30 minute drive from Halifax (the capital) and 50 minutes from the International Airport. This island has its own unique cove and offers breathtaking ocean views and quaint rural panoramas. There is a parking easement (for 2 vehicles) only 1500 feet away on the mainland near a deeded docking easement. That will allow the owner of the island to build a dock (per government regulations and mainland owners approval) to park their boat or canoe for easy access. A seasonal (summer) dock is available to use. Although a docking easement is available, you can just canoe or kayak over to the island from the mainland. As a matter of fact, you could swim there ! Leader island has good topographic elevation height to qualify for a building permit (buyer to verify) for your future home or vacation cottage.

Ettinger Falls, Nova Scotia

Ettinger Falls are located in Hants County, Three Mile Plains (Windsor). Less than an hour's drive from Halifax.
The Falls can be seen from the roadside, with an easy hike in to the river.
Hiking along this pretty river, through the woods was really enjoyable. Hardly any bugs either! Ettinger Falls are a series of waterfalls including a larger one that empties into a swimming hole outfitted with a rope swing. This is a fairly easy hike with some climbing and river crossings if you want to explore further down river.

Bay of Fundy Tide, Time-lapse, Fundy National Park

Time-lapse video of the Bay of Fundy tide at Point Wolfe, Fundy National Park, New Brunswick, Canada. This vantage point on the Shiphaven Trail is THE most spectacular location in Fundy National Park to see the full range of the tide. You would have to sit here for 6 hours and 10 minutes to experience this, but every minute would be worth it.

You really have to experience the Fundy tide for yourself to fully grasp the magnitude of it. This is just one inlet, but imagine every river, inlet, and cove, not to mention the entire Bay of Fundy filling up with an additional 12 metres of water in 6 hours. It's mind boggling. In fact, I can't imagine why you're not here right now to check it out for yourself.

This was shot as continuous video and then sped up 25,000% to compress it into one minute. Shooting it as video, as opposed to still images, gives greater options at the time of production but it sure takes a lot of disk space. The original video was shot July 10, 2009 but I just remade it into this format for YouTube. The soundtrack was made using SonicFire Pro 5.

Private railcars on VIA trains in Nova Scotia part 1

Since 2000 about 13 private cars have come to Halifax on the rear of VIA's Ocean. Most then went to Sydney NS and back on VIA's short-lived Bras d'Or.
VIA has now stopped carrying private cars.
Part 1 shows Pointe St.Charles, Colonial Crafts, Caritas & Chapel Hill at many scenic locations in Nova Scotia and being turned on the balloon track at the Halterm container terminal, close to the VIA station in Halifax.

Acadian tourist train Vanceboro to Saint John NB & back 27-28 August 2002

The Acadian tourist train ran from the outskirts of Montreal to Saint John NB on former CP trackage. It only ran in daylight and stopped at night and passengers were accommodated in hotels for the night. It started on 11 June 2002 and ran during that summer and the first few weeks of the summer 2003 terminating on 5 June 2003 because of low ridership.

It seen crossing the St Croix River at the US-Canada border and then at McAdam, Harvey Lake, Westfield Beach and crossing the Reversing Falls Bridge in Saint John NB and finally being turned on August 27th. The next day the train backs across the bridge to the downtown station then crosses the Reversing Falls Bridge again and then seen at several locations including Clarendon and Fredericton Junction.
