FIRST RYOKAN EXPERIENCE in Kawaguchiko with Mt. Fuji View and Kaiseki Dinner | Japan Travel Guide
Hi guys,
Welcome back to our channel! We traveled to Japan for the first time late last year and one of the things we really wanna do is to experience staying at Ryokan. Ryokans are Japanese style inns or hotels found throughout the country, especially in the hot spring resorts. These Japanese-style hotels are more than just a place to sleep, they are an opportunity to experience the traditional Japanese lifestyle and hospitality, incorporating elements such as tatami floors, futon beds, Japanese style baths, and local cuisine, making them popular with both Japanese and foreign tourists alike.
During this Japan trip, we stayed at Ryokan property called Konansou located in Kawaguchiko. This Japanese-style hotel is around 10 minutes walk from Kawaguchiko Station, however, free shuttles are available after 3:00pm. While staying at this Ryokan wasn't cheap at all, it certainly was an experience we will never forget.
There are many different types of guestrooms you can book in this Ryokan. Our room is the lake view, Japanese style room with tatami-floor and futon beds. And unlike most hotel rooms, our room looks a lot like a mini house where you can find a large entrance area (where you can remove your shoe, and slip on the slippers that have been provided for you), a large wash-room equipped with fully-equipped Japanese toilet, a decent-size wardrobe to store your day clothing, and a guest room with tatami floor. While we were at dinner enjoying the kaiseki feast, the ryokan staff discreetly visited the room and turned the guest area into a sleeping area by laying out plush Japanese-style bedding commonly known as futon beds.
Many traditional ryokans do not have an en suite bathroom but you'll be surprised to find that many rooms in this Ryokan property including our room have its own private en suite bathroom. This can be very important to many travelers, so make sure to ask before selecting your ryokan room. Perhaps, the main selling point for our room is the open-air bath with a great view of Lake Kawaguchiko - making it a perfect destination to relax and pamper yourself with a lavish and unforgettable holiday in Japan. The most popular room is the room with Open-air bath facing Mt.Fuji side which super popular and it was sold out at the time when we made the booking. This room is a bit more expensive but if you need the ultimate experience of an uninterrupted view of Mt.Fuji then it could be well worth the money.
The typical staying plan meal in this Ryokan is Kaiseki-style cuisine for dinner and buffet-style for breakfast. The guests can dine either in their room or in the individual tatami-floored cabin in the restaurant and the banquet room - this will be adjusted according to the staying plan and number of the party. Kaiseki is made with fresh ingredients, and each course is served as soon as it is prepared in order to maintain its freshness and integrity. While kaiseki meals can vary, there are usually some standard courses - and this Ryokan is no different. And honestly the food here is one of the best and the finest Japanese food we experienced to date.
Hopefully, you guys enjoy this video, sorry for the shaky footage (we must be so excited since this was our first ryokan experience). And we sincerely hope you guys can experience it as well in the future. If you like this video, please give a thumbs up and consider subscribing if you haven't already! Until then stay foolish, stay hungry! byeeeeeee
