Sri Lanka,ශ්රී ලංකා,Ceylon,Matara Fort Nilwala
The Nilwala River reaches the Indian Ocean shortly after crossing Matara town. The spot shown here shows the last 100m before the ocean at Thotamuna. Crocodiles populate this ecosystem made of a mixture of sea and river water. The River Nilwala is the third longest river in Sri Lanka. It starts from the hill country in Deniyaya and Rakwana. It runs through Deniyaya town, Morawaka, Akuressa and reaches the city of Matara where it joins the Indian Ocean at Thotamuna. This river irrigates a lot of landscape along its way from Deniyaya. Tea, rubber and paddy cultivation are the main crops which are irrigated by this river. Other than these crops many other crops such as cardamom, cinnamon and vegetable plantations are also being irrigated. North of Matara city and its suburbs often get flooded during the rainy season. To arrest this problem a scheme was initiated by the Ministry of Irrigation in 1979 with assistance from the Government of France. Now the first stage of the Project is completed . This flood protection scheme is successful and the areas which got flooded are now under paddy cultivation.

Neluwa Dowili Ella Falls – Upper Segment of the Fall
One of the most popular falls in this area is the Neluwa Dowili falls which lies about 8 km away from the Neluwa town. The fall is 17m in height and 1m wide. “Dowili ” meaning dust is a quite popular name for waterfalls which creates a misty atmosphere which looks like a dust cloud around the bottom. Therefore each Dowili fall is uniquely identified by adding the name of the village or town where the fall is located. THus this fall has become Neluwa Dowili Falls.
This fall is located in the area called Kosmulla on the route to Lankagama and is a quite popular destination for local as well as foreign tourists. The area around this fall is well maintained and steps has been built to reach to top of the falls. There are three view points to this falls. One leads to the lower fall ( where the first photo was taken) and the next leads the bottom of the upper fall ( where the 2nd photo was taken) . The same foot steps leads to top of the fall too.
Two large bathing ponds are built at the bottom of the falls by diverting the water from the stream. The first one is shallow and suitable for kids. The second one is little deeper but safe. Area is well landscaped and changing room facilities are also is provided. The access to the pool is restricted by a fence and the is a small fee ( Rs.20 ) per person is changed to enter the facility. Its open from 9 to 5.

Isinbassagala Ruwangiri Raja Maha Viharaya, Medawachchiya (2018) – 1 of 3
About 1.4 km off Medawachchiya on the A9 (Kandy-Jaffna) highway, this beautiful and historical temple known as “Isinbassagala” is located. The name loosely translates into “The Rock that the Sages Came from”. This temple complex was built by the King Devanampiyathissa (250-210 BC) right after the introduction of Buddhism to Sri Lanka. Today what you see at the top of this rock is recent constructions done in the 1st half of the 20th century. This new stupa has been built on the same location where the original stupa had been. Excavations on this stupa area have recovered an ancient Naga Gala (Cobra Carved Stone) and some Sri Pathul Gala (Foot Print of Buddha).
This temple represents a two generations of worship culture. According to the sources, Snake Stone is an object of worship of the Naga (Cobra) tribes which was used before the arrival of Buddhism in the country. Later the temple has been built on the same grounds. The Sri Pathul Gala shows this era as this was the first representation of Buddha before the Buddha statues were built.
In addition to the temple, the view from this rock is breathtaking. You can get a 360 degree view of the whole area from this point. One of the most remarkable attractions is the Isinbassagala Tank located off the main temple and is a bird paradise.
Special Note for the Viewers:
I’ve done this video to make other human beings aware of the beauty of this place and please don’t misuse this information in order to ruin this place. I’ve spent so much of time/money bringing this to you so that you may enjoy it. However I’ve a very kind and humble request from you all.
Should you ever visit this place, you’re kindly requested to adhere to the following in order to save our Mother Nature (essentially Our Country) not only for the future generations but for the current one as well:
* Avoid careless/reckless/irresponsible/money-oriented/mega tour groups or organizers.
* Travel in smaller groups as Mother Nature can’t afford so many footprints at once.
* Minimize the use of polythene/plastic and do bring back if you have to take any with you.
* Don’t litter and even if it’ bio-degradable, please bring it back and dispose of the garbage properly and responsibly. Because no matter what it is, it will still be alien to that environment.
* Use reusable water bottles so that you don’t have to keep buying plastic ones. It’ll not only save you money but will help save nature massively.
* Remain quiet and vigilant. Don’t disturb the tranquility of the nature. Instead savor it.
* Try and bring if you spot any litter/garbage left behind by other careless travellers.
* Don’t light fires unnecessarily and do try to use portable cookers instead of using firewood when camping. The increase usage of firewood leads to more deforestation even at a smaller scale.
* Don’t bring any plants back with you or break any plants/branches unnecessarily.
* Don’t walk off the designated footpath.
* Don’t use soap/detergent/shampoo when bathing in natural streams as they’d only lead to the contamination of those pure water sources and elimination of wildlife species.
* Don’t do anything that harms the Mother Nature.
