This Vlog is about Bay Island Driftwood Museum, Kumarakom, Kerala.
This museum is an effort of Mrs. Raji Punnoose- the curator and proprietress of the museum. This retired school teacher carries with her oodles of passion which is visible when she explains the beauty and the story behind each exhibit. The fact that she has been chasing her dream for almost 2 decades now makes this Iron Lady stand out. The fact that she put in almost 3 decades of dedication and effort to assimilate this wealth of natures creations is incomparable and unmatched. Established in 2001 this is a story of perseverance and unstinting creativity which has no parlance.
She went around painstakingly with her third eye and recovered these rare objects from the Andaman seas at great risk over a span of 25 years. These absolutely unique and rare collection of artifacts, created and sustained by the sea waves for millennia, weighing many tons, big and small, collected, improvised, worth millions in international market, are permanently exhibited at the Bay Island Driftwood Museum, Kumarakom.
Winner of many awards she came up with this amazing concept of this wonderful museum. She brought these objects weighing many tons and has spent a large part of her savings on them. This is probably one of the few private museums in the world which is run by a registered Trust. Internationally acclaimed but yet lesser known destination, this is a must visit for all on a visit to Kumarakom.
