France offers all the elements required for a perfect winter vacation: charming mountain villages, spectacular alpine scenery, and sunny ski resorts with powdery slopes. Both in the French Alps and the Pyrenees Mountains, several ski domains are known for their extensive trails and exceptional lift systems. Many of the resorts are so enormous that skiers will be able to try a different route every time and enjoy the invigorating sight of rugged mountain peaks while gliding through fluffy snow, often with stunning, bright-blue skies. Let's see five ski resorts in France.
1. Chamonix
2. Val d'Isere
3. Courchevel
4. Morzine-Avoriaz in Portes du Soleil
5. Gourette

6 Things You Absolutely Must Try in the French and Swiss Alps
SUBSCRIBE: The Portes du Soleil mega-resort is a winter wonderland in the French and Swiss Alps and one of the largest ski areas on the planet.
Portes du Soleil is comprised of 12 resorts spread over approximately 400 square miles in France and Switzerland. Best of all, you can ski or snowboard through all of the resorts using a single lift ticket (around $53 per person).
There’s so much on offer, so you need to plan your vacation wisely. Here are my picks for the top 6 things to see and do in the French and Swiss Alps.
6. Paragliding
The best 75 euro you’ll ever spend is paragliding in Les Gets. First-timers ride tandem and require very little coaching. My instructor with Air Libre did all the work while I sat back, took photos and enjoyed the view. From way up there, we could see the Swiss border and Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps.
Watch me jump off a 6,000-foot slope here:
5. Speed Riding
Up the ante and try something a bit more daring with a parachute … zooming straight down a slope on skis. At Paragliding School Portes du Soleil in Morzine, you can try this Red Bull-approved sport for yourself and have bragging rights for a lifetime.
Remember kiddos, speed riding is not for everyone. You’ll need to be a strong skier to even consider it.
During a group lesson setting, after adequate instruction, there’s time for newbies to put their skills to the test at least twice. Depending on your ski to falling ratio, two runs might be all the excitement you need.
4. Igloo Bar
Where else but in the French and Swiss Alps can you ski to a reggae dance party in an Igloo? Head straight to Avoriaz, located on the French side of Portes du Soleil, for a full bar, chill out areas, reggae music and a cove of ice sculptures. Ya mon.
3. Fondue And Raclette
Nothing says the Alps like cheese…gooey, hot, pungent cheese. Some of my favorite places for a gluttonous night out are Le Vieux Four in Chatel, La Ferme de la Fruitiere in Morzine and La Fruitiere des Perrieres in Les Gets, where a Japanese cheesemaker (gasp) creates award-winning dishes.
2. Night Sledging
The best time to go sledging (also known as sledding) is during twilight, when the slopes are empty.
When you manage to fall (and you will), you’ll enjoy sledging even more. With your center of gravity so close to the ground, it’s unlikely that you’ll feel any discomfort when crashing. In fact, falling is kinda the best part.
1. Rock the Pistes
Each spring, crowds gather throughout Portes du Soliel for a free outdoor concert series. Expect international rock stars, costumes and people dancing in full-on snow gear. Past performers include Klaxons, Babyshambles, Selah Sue and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Wanna see what it’s like? Hang out with me at Rock the Pistes here:
Decadent multi-course dinners, adventure sports, live music and snow-covered mountains are all part of l'art de vivre (the art of living) in the French and Swiss Alps.

My Trip To France
I can't put into words how happy I am to have gone on this trip. Ever since I was little I've always dreamed of visiting France. So this June I got to live this amazing journey with amazing people that I will never forget. I got to see La Tour Eiffel, visit the Louvre, cook a special meal, eat like the locals, practice my french, make new friends, get drawn in Paris, dance traditional dances of the Brittany region, see the Mona lisa, eat lots of bread and fromage, visit the burial place of Leonardo DaVinci, shop through many magasins, get wet with Parisian rain, go through many Metro stations, visit Normandy and Brittany, see strikes and crazy soccer fans, stroll around Paris at Midnight and many more special moments that I'll forever keep in my heart as unforgetabble memories. After this trip my obsession with France increased massively, I fell in love with every single town I visited. I'll for sure be back, France. Tu me manques.

5 Of Europe’s Most Awesome Water Parks
1. Waterworld – Ayia Napa, Cyprus
► It’s been designed with an ancient Greek theme, so you can expect to see plenty of white columns, old ships and classical statues at this big water park in Cyprus’ party capital… but don’t worry, more prominent than the pillars are the huge, brightly coloured water slides all over the place… Apollo’s Plunge, Odyssey River and The Fall of Icarus to name a few. There are loads of stomach-flipping rides, a big wave pool, loads of sun loungers, and even slides to suit non-swimmers. It’s a seriously good day out, but bring flip flops or even socks to wear around – the ground gets hot in the heat of summer.
► Flights to Ayia Napa
2. Fasouri Watermania – Limmasol, Cyprus
► 100,000 square metres of pure fun, Fasouri Watermania (less than an hours’ drive from both Larnaca and Paphos) is an award winning water park with a massive wave pool among dozens of other attractions (don’t miss the black hole or kamikaze slides). If you don’t like the steep and fast stuff, there’s a lazy river you can cruise along, and there’s even a massage parlour for weary parents who want a little holiday from the holiday…
► Adults €30, kids €17. Open May – October
► Flights to Larnaca
3. Aquariaz – Avoriaz France
► This water wonderland in the French Alps is designed to feel like a tropical jungle paradise, with loads of large rock features and lush trees. You’ll love the lazy river with its gentle current and lots of chill-out areas with water jets, and it’s got a half-pipe slide, a big pool, climbing walls, and plenty of space for kids to play. It’s open in winter ski season as well as during the summer, and during winter the outdoor spa is heated so you can get in and feel toasty in a hot tub under the stars, surrounded by snow and freezing alpine air. Perfect. It’s cold when you get out though, fair warning.
► Adults €8, kids €6, open during summer and winter ski seasons, closed Saturdays.
►Flights to Avoraiz
4. Tropical Islands – Brandenburg, Germany
► Who’d have thought that you can have a proper little tropical experience just 35km from Berlin? Tropical Islands is housed in what used to be an airship hangar, but is now basically a massive dome – 360 metres in diameter – full of pure fun. That fun includes a lagoon, a beach, bumper boats, Germany’s biggest (27m) water slide… and even indoor balloon rides. There’s another area too, a huge tropical sauna and spa area that costs €8 extra to enter but has its own Ankor Wat. Oh, and then there’s the rainforest experience complete with turtles, flamingos and macaws among other exotic creatures, just to keep you interested.
► Adults €36, kids €28.50, under 5s Free. Open every day 8am – 9pm.
► Flights to Brandenburg
5. Aquapark – Biscarosse, France
► This place, just a short drive from Bordeaux or Biarritz, is absolutely awesome. It’s a little different to the usual water park experience, too. It’s not all brightly-coloured half pipes and lazy rivers, this is more like a giant, inflatable, floating, bouncy obstacle course. There’s a giant catapult, a massive water slide, big zorbing-type inflatable balls, and all manner of high-octane water-based thrills. Bring a picnic, and leave your fear at home. You can pay by the hour, for half day, or for a full day.
► From €6 for an hour. Open June-September
► Flights to Biscarosse
Avoriaz Ski Resort Review by Ski Collection
This video, brought to you by Ski Collection, features the French Alps ski resort of Avoriaz, located in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area. More info -
This brilliant ski-in/ski-out, car-free village is a fantastic ski resort for families and all services & amenities are close by. Avoriaz was voted ‘Best Family Resort’ in 2012 and 2013 at the World Snow Awards in London.
This charming purpose-built car-free ski resort uses horse-drawn sleighs and snow-cats to replace cars, transporting people and luggage to and from car parks as well as accommodation.
Avoriaz is 100% ski-in/ski-out and the fully pedestrianised streets make it really easy to get around on foot, ski or sledge in complete safety. Avoriaz is possibly the most modern and distinctive ski resort in the Portes du Soleil.
