5 Top-Rated Ski Resorts in France, 2017
France offers all the elements required for a perfect winter vacation: charming mountain villages, spectacular alpine scenery, and sunny ski resorts with powdery slopes. Both in the French Alps and the Pyrenees Mountains, several ski domains are known for their extensive trails and exceptional lift systems. Many of the resorts are so enormous that skiers will be able to try a different route every time and enjoy the invigorating sight of rugged mountain peaks while gliding through fluffy snow, often with stunning, bright-blue skies. Let's see five ski resorts in France.
1. Chamonix
2. Val d'Isere
3. Courchevel
4. Morzine-Avoriaz in Portes du Soleil
5. Gourette

6 Things You Absolutely Must Try in the French and Swiss Alps
SUBSCRIBE: The Portes du Soleil mega-resort is a winter wonderland in the French and Swiss Alps and one of the largest ski areas on the planet.
Portes du Soleil is comprised of 12 resorts spread over approximately 400 square miles in France and Switzerland. Best of all, you can ski or snowboard through all of the resorts using a single lift ticket (around $53 per person).
There’s so much on offer, so you need to plan your vacation wisely. Here are my picks for the top 6 things to see and do in the French and Swiss Alps.
6. Paragliding
The best 75 euro you’ll ever spend is paragliding in Les Gets. First-timers ride tandem and require very little coaching. My instructor with Air Libre did all the work while I sat back, took photos and enjoyed the view. From way up there, we could see the Swiss border and Mont Blanc, the highest peak in the Alps.
Watch me jump off a 6,000-foot slope here:
5. Speed Riding
Up the ante and try something a bit more daring with a parachute … zooming straight down a slope on skis. At Paragliding School Portes du Soleil in Morzine, you can try this Red Bull-approved sport for yourself and have bragging rights for a lifetime.
Remember kiddos, speed riding is not for everyone. You’ll need to be a strong skier to even consider it.
During a group lesson setting, after adequate instruction, there’s time for newbies to put their skills to the test at least twice. Depending on your ski to falling ratio, two runs might be all the excitement you need.
4. Igloo Bar
Where else but in the French and Swiss Alps can you ski to a reggae dance party in an Igloo? Head straight to Avoriaz, located on the French side of Portes du Soleil, for a full bar, chill out areas, reggae music and a cove of ice sculptures. Ya mon.
3. Fondue And Raclette
Nothing says the Alps like cheese…gooey, hot, pungent cheese. Some of my favorite places for a gluttonous night out are Le Vieux Four in Chatel, La Ferme de la Fruitiere in Morzine and La Fruitiere des Perrieres in Les Gets, where a Japanese cheesemaker (gasp) creates award-winning dishes.
2. Night Sledging
The best time to go sledging (also known as sledding) is during twilight, when the slopes are empty.
When you manage to fall (and you will), you’ll enjoy sledging even more. With your center of gravity so close to the ground, it’s unlikely that you’ll feel any discomfort when crashing. In fact, falling is kinda the best part.
1. Rock the Pistes
Each spring, crowds gather throughout Portes du Soliel for a free outdoor concert series. Expect international rock stars, costumes and people dancing in full-on snow gear. Past performers include Klaxons, Babyshambles, Selah Sue and Lee “Scratch” Perry.
Wanna see what it’s like? Hang out with me at Rock the Pistes here:
Decadent multi-course dinners, adventure sports, live music and snow-covered mountains are all part of l'art de vivre (the art of living) in the French and Swiss Alps.

Places Featured:
►Les Gets: we went for acrobatic paragliding and yoga on the mountain.
Our hotel was beautifully situated along the hill:
► Along the road (Route des Grandes Alpes - highly recommended!) we stopped over at the Abbey:
► In Chatel we stayed over at a hostel:
The hike early morning over the mountains was quite challenging, but very, very rewarding! One of the highlights of the trip!! Don't forget to get yourself some pie in the mountain hut afterwards, you deserve it ;)
► I asked Savoie Mont Blanc if they could make this trip possible for us, and they did.
All opinions are my own, as always.

From: Los Angeles (LAX)
To: Paris (CDG)
Departure: 17:27
Arrival: 12:37
Flight Time: 10:10

Flight Path:
Our flight today begins with a short drive into Los Angeles International Airport. We stop briefly at the In-n-Out Burger to watch the planes landing, before making our way to the Tom Bradley International Terminal (TBIT).
We check in at the Air France area and then make our way to the TSA Security checkpoint. From there we head airside towards our gate where our aircraft is waiting - the huge Airbus A380 that will take us across the Atlantic this evening.
We suffer a delay of around an hour due to a specific security threat that has been received to our flight. We have to wait while FBI sniffer dogs search the aircraft, but thankfully nothing is found and we’re able to eventually board. We take the escalator to the second floor to be able to board the upper deck of the huge A380. We board through the forward doors making our way through the aircraft’s business class and premium economy to our section of economy at the rear of the aircraft, taking our seat in seat 93L.
We soon begin our pushback as the sun sets over California, and taxi out with a police escort to runway 24L. We make a beautiful departure into the sunset getting a stunning view of Los Angeles lit up below. We make our way across the US towards Canada under darkness, getting views of many major cities. We cross the coast into the Atlantic just north of Labrador City, Canada, before passing to the south of Greenland where the sun rises.
We get some great views of the contrails forming as we cruise at a level of 39,000ft towards Ireland. We cross the Irish Sea towards South Wales, making a left turn towards London before turning right and crossing the English Channel towards France.
We commence our descent into a rainy Paris, saying goodbye to the beautiful weather above the clouds and hello to a gloomy rainy day. We make a trademark hard landing on runway 26L at Charles-de-Gaulle. We taxi into the beautiful Terminal 2E before disembarking and making our way towards flight connections for our onward flight back to the UK.

Nice France in 4K. Côte d'Azur. Nice Aerial.
The film was shot in February 2018 in the city of Nice, France.
Nice is a magnificent Mediterranean city-port, located on the south-eastern coast of France on the Mediterranean coast. The city is located 30 kilometers from the border of France and Italy, is also one of the main resort places of Côte d'Azur. Nearly 400 thousand inhabitants live in the city and its environs and millions of tourists come every year.
Since ancient times, Nice has been a favorite place of visiting aristocrats and celebrities, and is considered a pretty expensive resort. There are a large number of luxury hotels, shops and restaurants, as well as many historical attractions, you will need more than one day to see them all. And yet one of the main attractions of the city are the beaches, most of which are free. Such as for example the main city symbol of Nice - the English quay, the length of 6 kilometers along the bay Bay of Angels.
The pleasant and relaxing atmosphere of this magnificent city, good weather, bright sun and stunning views will not leave anyone indifferent, and year after year will attract many admired tourists here.
In this film you can see all the sights of Nice in France, such as the Promenade des Anglais, Vieux-Nice, the Saleame course, Collin du Chateau (Castle Hill), Massena Square, Matisse Museum, Russian Orthodox Church, Marc Chagall Museum, Promenade du Pion, Monastery of Cime.

Views Around Versailles, Yvelines, Île de France, France - 20th October, 2014
Versailles is a wealthy suburb of Paris with a service based economy and is a major tourist destination. This film features views around the town of Versailles, which is situated on the the South West outskirts of Paris in the Yvelines département in Île-de-France region. The town is renowned worldwide for its château, the Château de Versailles and the gardens of Versailles, designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
The film is taken around the town of Versailles, as well as at the Château and extensive gardens. The Château was closed to enter as filming was taking place for a period drama, but there are some nice shots of the actors in their costumes. The gardens were open and looked spectacular as ever, even in the drab grey weather.
The film features the following identified locations and features: Versailles Château Rive Gauche railway station; Avenue du General de Gaulle; Monumnent aux Morts; Versailles Hôtel de Ville (Town Hall); Louis XIV Statue; Place d'Armes; Château de Versailles; Chapelle Royal; Bassin du Nord; Grand Canal; Tapis Vert; Le Bassin de la Pyramide; Parterre du Nord; Place Hoche; Rue Hoche; Église Notre-Damme; Place de la Loi; Le Monument National de la Gendarmerie and a fairground at the Parking Place de l'Europe.

Destination Ski: Avoriaz
destinationski.com/destinations/france/portes-du-soleil/avoriaz/
Avoriaz is a fully pedestrianised, ski-in-ski-out resort in the heart of the Portes du Soleil ski area. This is a fantastic resort where children can go sledging through the middle of the village and the only traffic you need to avoid is the horse-drawn carriage taking you back to your accommodation.

Our visit Rio De Janeiro travel guide documentary, before the Olympics of 2016, covers some of the top attractions including a food guide (best restaurants and street food), top museums and Rio at night. We also cover off-the-beaten-path activities you won't find in a typical Rio De Janeiro tourism brochure or Rio De Janeiro, Brasil city tour.
25 Things to do in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil Travel Guide and Top Attractions Transcript:
First up, we started with the city’s most iconic sight: Christ Redeemer. We boarded the train as soon as the station opened and made our way to the top of Corcovado Mountain. Sometimes the statue can be shielded by fog, but we lucked out with beautiful blue skies and panoramic views of the city as far as the eye could see.
For a bit of colour, we headed over to the Selaron Steps, which is a tiled staircase created by Chilean artist, Jorge Selarón. Initially Selaron would scavenge construction sites looking for tiles, but in later years as his work gained notoriety, travellers began donating tiles.
Since we chose to stay in the neighbourhood of Ipanema, we ended up spending quite a bit of time at Ipanema Beach. We noticed that this beach was really popular for beach football, volleyball, and surfing. And of course, what makes this beach so iconic are its two mountains, known as Dois Irmãos. If you come here on a clear day, you can catch a killer sunset.
No visit to Rio de Janeiro would be complete without heading up Sugarloaf Mountain, so when the skies finally cleared that’s exactly what we did. We paid for our tickets and boarded the cable car for a somewhat unnerving ride up. If you’re scared of heights, this probably isn’t the attraction for you, however, if you manage to make it to the top you get some really cool panoramic views of Rio.
Copacabana Beach is the most famed beach in all of Rio de Janeiro and if you were to visit on a weekend during the summer months you’d find that the place is packed beyond belief. We happened to be here in winter so things were a lot more relaxed, but that didn’t stop visitors from braving the waters.
We did a favela tour to Babilônia and Chapéu Mangueira. On our tour we saw lots of street art, learned about life inside a favela.
And that is a wrap! We hope this video will give you guys some ideas of things to do in Rio de Janeiro on your visit, and for those travellers who have already been there, feel free to add your suggestion of cool activities and attractions in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Brazil video series showcasing Brazilian food, Brazilian culture and Brazilian cuisine.
