Annecy is an alpine town in southeastern France, where Lake Annecy feeds into the Thiou River. It’s known for its Vieille Ville (old town), with cobbled streets, winding canals and pastel-colored houses. Overlooking the city, the medieval Château d’Annecy, once home to the Counts of Geneva, contains a museum with regional artifacts such as Alpine furniture and religious art, plus a natural history exhibit.
Annecy is the largest city of Haute-Savoie department in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region in southeastern France. It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Geneva. Palais de l'Isle is a castle in the of Geneva's administrative headquarters, then alternately a courthouse, a mint, and the Middle Ages until 1865 and then again during World War II. The Palais de l'Ile was classified as a Historical Monument in 1900, and today houses a local history museum. The Château d'Annecy (Annecy Castle) was the home of the Counts of Geneva and the Dukes of Genevois-Nemours, an offshoot

Lake Annecy, in the Haute-Savoie region of France, is fed by mountain springs and known for its clean water. At its north end, Annecy has a medieval old town with canals and bridges. The 13th-century Château de Menthon-Saint-Bernard perches above the lakeside village of Menthon-Saint-Bernard. The town of Saint-Jorioz has a popular beach. There are trails around the shore and pleasure boats dot the lake in summer.
Until the 1950s, the lake collected wastewater from towns and villages bordering it. The large influx of these rich and dirty waters resulted in the significant development of algae and an inevitable smothering of the lake. This eutrophication, frequent with economic and industrial development, threatened the survival of the lake. Lake Bourget and Lac Léman found themselves in similar situations.
Several pioneers, including Paul Servettaz, sounded the alarm and 8 townships joined forces to create the SILA on July 15, 1957. The Syndicat intercommunal of Lake Annecy decided to set up a safety belt around the lake in the form of wastewater collectors along the banks and redirecting to the treatment plants the result of their harvest. This very simple mechanism prevents the dirty water from spilling into the lake. And in fact, since that date, only rain and spring water feed Lake Annecy. Thus Lake Annecy has become one of the first French sites to make sustainable development (without knowing it).
Lake Annecy is one of the purest in Europe. From the shores of the lake to the turquoise waters so dear to Cézanne via the Tournette, the Roc de Chère or the Semnoz, the enchanting landscapes are waiting for you.
North of the lake, the old town of Annecy and its multiple channels can be discovered in all seasons. On the left bank, Sevrier, Saint-Jorioz, or Duingt and his castle live on the edge of the water. On the right bank, Veyrier and its belvedere, Menthon Saint Bernard and its castle dominate the lake. At the end of the lake, the nature reserve and belvedere of the rock of Chère then a few kilometers, the sources of Lake Annecy in Faverges complete this tour of the lake.

It lies on the northern tip of Lake Annecy, 35 kilometers (22 mi) south of Geneva.Nicknamed the Pearl of French Alpshe city controls the northern entrance to the lake gorge. Sometimes called Venice of the Alps, this idyllic and touristic representation comes from its two canals and the Thiou river lying through the old city and whose initial role was to protect the city and to empower its handicrafts.

Mont Veyrier, Annecy France
Here is a short video from a recent hiking trip up mount Veyrier close to the city of Annecy. It overlooks the lake Annecy and surrounding towns. Le lac s’est formé il y a environ 18 000 ans au moment de la fonte des grands glaciers alpins. Il est alimenté par sept ruisseaux et torrents, nés dans les montagnes environnantes et par une puissante source sous-lacustre, qui jaillit à 82 mètres de profondeur.Il est encadré à l’est par le massif des Bornes les Dents de Lanfon, le mont Veyrier et le mont Baron et à l’ouest par le massif des Bauges au nord par les agglomérations d’Annecy et au sud par la vallée vers Faverges qui prolonge le Bout-du-Lac.
Le lac a une périphérie praticable à pieds ou à vélo sur quarante kilomètres environ.Le lac déverse son trop-plein d’eau dans le Thiou qui alimente le Fier qui se jette lui-même dans le Rhône. C’est un lieu touristique très attractif, connu pour ses nombreuses activités nautiques.

The Tournette (2,351 m) is a mountain in the Bornes Massif in Haute-Savoie, France. It is the highest of the mountains surrounding Lake Annecy and has a prominence of 1,514m, qualifying it as an Ultra. It is possible to drive most of the way up, parking at Chalet De L'Aulp.
From here the summit can be reached via a well marked path in around 3 hours. The final third of the climb requires some scrambling, but there are chains and ladders in all the difficult sections. La Tournette is a superb spot to contemplate all the summits above Lake Annecy as well as the Aravis Range and the Mont Blanc Massif, sometimes hidden by the clouds when it’s hot.
This ramble is somewhat technical in its final part, as many passages are equipped with cables and chains and, in places, the rock humid and therefore very slippery. I then advise the use of a cord for children. There are many ibexes in the massif that you can easily approach and photograph. Be careful however as you reach the summit: these same ibexes can trigger rockfalls.

Biking with friends in a real paradise - Lake Annecy, French Alps
Lake Annecy is an OUTDOOR PARADISE. It is located in the French Alps about 40km away from Geneva, Switzerland and trekking, biking, wakeboarding or paragliding are just some of the experiences you can try here. When Juan proposed my group of Geneva friends La Penia Argentina to not only do the Tour du Lac but also bike to the top of the Col de la Forclaz 1527m, we certainly didn't know what we were getting into. Yet, the celebration beer after having achieved that was may be the best-tasting beer in years! :)
