Do you ever go to a place that everyone else loves but you just don't connect with it in that way? I think they call it Paris syndrome. I felt that way about the Philippines the first time I went in 2013. I just didn't love it, but I could never really articulate why.
I realized that if I couldn't come up with a good reason, it meant that perhaps it was ME who was the problem the first time around. I knew that I had to return to see if that was the case.
I'm so happy to say that this time around, I had a change of heart. The locals in the Philippines were so friendly, that even when things went wrong like they did in Siargao, it turned out to be a beautiful experience. I am thankful that I got to go back and have a change of heart, but it felt dishonest not to talk about the experience I went into this Philippines trip with, and I wanted to share the truth with you!
Now I know, this is a place I'll keep coming back to. A BIG THANK YOU to all of the amazing locals who turned my impressions around this time.

Proud Dad to three boys (twin 2yr olds and 6yr old), eccentric poker genius and wizard in the kitchen, Cancer ended my fruitful chef’s career back in 2007 and left me disabled with “chronic neuropathic pain” as my cross to bear... Having my first son, born in 2011 gave me back a will to not just live, but to try and be the best Dad I possibly could (given the circumstances). My wife is my rock and full-time carer, and has juggled an even more chaotic set of balls since we added twin boys to the equation, but we are terribly happy... couldn’t be happier really, even if life is tough as old boots lol.... As sucky as it is... Extreme pain dominates my life and managing it (so i can be a better husband & father) is always my priority... which is kind of where our channel was born.... i needed a way to enjoy time with my family while “giving something back” while also keeping my mind happy and busy (distraction and dopamine/serotonin release obv works wonders for pain management)... Every day/hour or minute can change in an instant (pain-wise)so I’m not always the smiliest of bunnies, I’m also VERY heavily medicated in the mornings and have to drink a SHITLOAD of caffeine to function normally (LOL i use that word loosely)....if i could pour coffee into my eyeballs i probably would
