One Of The Boys - A Joe Jonas Mini-Series Part 5
Joe's POV
It's early Saturday Morning, my alarm went off at 6:30, Lou and I had to be at All-Star Tryouts by 9. I quickly text Lou, 'Get Up! I'll b there by 8 to pick u up JJ' I throw my phone on the bed and go downstairs to grab some breakfast. Good Morning! Mom chimes as I walk into the kitchen. Mornin' I reply as I step over and give her a kiss on the cheek. I wasn't expecting you up. I comment. She smiles What kind of Mother would I be if I didn't make my Son Breakfast before his Big Game. I laugh Mom, It's not a game It's just tryouts! Well you're having a good breakfast no matter what. She says as she points me to my seat at the table and sets a plate full of Bacon, eggs and pancakes in front of me. M-m-mornin'! I look up from my overflowing plate to see Nick walking in yawning and scratching the back of his head. I chuckle You're not going to make the Team if you're half asleep. I joke. He slumps into the seat beside me and yawns again, shrugging his shoulders.
After I finish eating, I run upstairs and check my equipment bag, I need to make sure I don't forget anything. I pick up my phone and look at the screen expecting to see a reply from Lou, my brow furrows, there's nothing. Lou always replies right away, in fact sometimes she replies before I've even sent a message, that always freaks me out, I swear she can read my mind. I send her another one 'Hey Sleepy Head! U Ready to go!' tossing it back on the bed and I go to the closet. I pull out my Roosevelt Uniform and put it on I want everyone at these tryouts to know I was on the Championship Team. Hey a little intimidation never hurt anyone.
I grab my equipment bag , car keys and phone, as I head out my bedroom door. I pause on the landing to yell Nick I'm leaving! If you want a ride you better be outside in two! I hear a grunt as I jog down the stairs and towards the front door, so I guess he heard me. Mom! I'm leaving! I call towards the back of the house. She comes out of the kitchen, wiping her hand on a tea towel. Okay Dear! Good Luck and wish Lou Luck from me as well. I will. I reply as I open the door and walk out to the cool morning sun. I unlock the door on my beat up Honda Civic, the car isn't much but it's mine, I worked hard for it. Everyone else makes fun of it calling it a 'Rust Bucket', well everyone except Lou. Lou thinks it's the Greatest, probably because it means I can drive us to where ever we want to go. Hey she even named it 'Margaret', when I asked why Margaret she just said Because I found out later from Mark that Margaret was their Mothers name. I open door and flip the seat forward, throwing my equipment bag into the back seat, then putting the seat back again I climb into the drivers seat. I give the horn a Honk to hurry Nick up as I tap the steering wheel impatiently. My phone vibrates; I reach into my pocket as I whisper Finally Lou! to no one. I look at the screen and see a text, but it's not from Lou it's from Kim 'Beach :) ' is all it says Kim asked me yesterday to go to the Beach today but I told her I had Tryouts, she can be a little spacey sometimes, besides who wants to be swimming in Lake Erie in June, the waters to damn cold. I shake my head and remind her 'Tryouts!' my phone vibrates almost immediately ' :( ' I chuckle as I can just picture her soft pouty lips I can't help but reply 'Later, Meet me at the park' ' XD ' is the reply I get back. I sit back in my seat wondering why Lou still hasn't returned my texts. It was so unlike her, sure she disappeared on Thursday, she never came to our last class. I mean we where talking outside and things were great, I love hanging out with her she's so funny. She was going to tell me something I think. Ah! it was probably nothing important anyways. One minute she was there and when I turned around the next minute she was gone, without a word. Okay maybe it wasn't a minute I was kinda distracted by Kim. Man she's Hot, I could just stare at her for hours. Okay back to Lou, she has been acting a little strange over the last little while; she didn't even come to Prom. The whole team went with their dates! I realize that I haven't heard anything from her since Thursday afternoon, and this was Saturday, we always talked every day. We've been planning for this Tryout for Months. I dialled her cell number, feeling a little tense, it rang and I got 'That customer is unavailable' I breathe out a sigh and chuckle her phones dead that's why. I then dial her home number, knowing she'll pick up on the first ring.
