Crescentino is a comune in the Province of Vercelli in the Italian region Piedmont, located about 35 kilometres northeast of Turin and about 30 kilometres southwest of Vercelli. Crescentino borders the following municipalities: Brusasco, Fontanetto Po, Lamporo, Livorno Ferraris, Moncestino, Saluggia, Verolengo, and Verrua Savoia.

We travelled by car from Germany to Turin where we have parked close to our starting point. From Valenza we got back to the car by train and taxi (from Turin train station to San Mauro).

Description of the River (German):
The water level was low but still runnable without problems. The water level was at Torino Murrazi 0.35 m, San Sebastiano 0.95 m, Crescentino 0,85 m, Valenza -0,35 m. You can find the values here:

Highlights of Siena, Siena, Tuscany, Italy

The historic centre of Siena has been declared by UNESCO a World Heritage Site and is one of the nation's most visited tourist attractions, with over 163,000 international arrivals in 2008.

Siena is famous for its cuisine, art, museums, medieval cityscape and the Palio, a horse race held twice yearly.

0:03 - Outside the Cathedral of Siena (Duomo di Siena). The cathedral itself was originally designed and completed between 1215 and 1263 on the site of an earlier structure. It has the form of a Latin cross with a slightly projecting transept, a dome and a bell tower. The dome rises from a hexagonal base with supporting columns. The lantern atop the dome was added by Gian Lorenzo Bernini. The nave is separated from the two aisles by semicircular arches. The exterior and interior are constructed of white and greenish-black marble in alternating stripes, with addition of red marble on the façade. Black and white are the symbolic colors of Siena, etiologically linked to black and white horses of the legendary city's founders, Senius and Aschius.

4:48 - The Piazza del Campo - the principal public space of the historic center of Siena and is one of Europe's greatest medieval squares. It is renowned worldwide for its beauty and architectural integrity. The Palazzo Pubblico and its Torre del Mangia, as well as various palazzi signorili surround the shell-shaped piazza. At the northwest edge is the Fonte Gaia. The twice-a-year horse-race, Palio di Siena, is held around the edges of the piazza.

Built between 1316 and 1325 by Camaino di Crescentino, the father of Tino di Camaino. In the interior, the rectangular hall, divided into a nave and two aisles by two columns, contains a hexagonal baptismal font in bronze, marble and vitreous enamel, realized in 1417-1431 by the main sculptors of the time: Donatello (panel of Herod's Banquet and statues of the Faith and Hope), Lorenzo Ghiberti, Giovanni di Turino, Goro di Neroccio and Jacopo della Quercia (statue of John the Baptist and other figures).
