First of all, I want to thank @theskinnybib ( for this Thai restaurant recommendation.
Loong Riang & Pamalee (ร้านลุงเรียง & ป้ามาลี) is a restaurant that serves Thai jungle food (อาหารป่า). The restaurant is located in the countryside, in a small village in Chonburi, Thailand, not too far from Pattaya. One morning, my friend Joel and I, along with Ying and Micah, drove straight there. It took about 1.5 hours to get there, and every minute of the drive was completely worth it. It turned out to be among the best meals of my life!
So again, Loong Riang & Pamalee (ร้านลุงเรียง & ป้ามาลี) serves Thai food, but jungle Thai food - in Thai that’s what it literally translates to. So that means they use lots of local and wild ingredients in their cooking and recipes, and also some traditional Thai recipes as well.
Here are the dishes we ate:
1. Wild boar with pineapple stems (ผัดหมูป่าจุกสัปประรด) - An amazing Thai dish, made with curry paste wild boar, and slices of pineapple stems.
2. Pork curry with coconut shell (แกงหมูกะลา) - My first time to eat coconut shell in Thailand. It had a crunch like a carrot, stir fried with curry paste.
3. Wild boar with snakefruit (หมูป่าพล่าระกำ) - This is a type of pla, which in Thai is a mix or type of salad made with wild boar and salak fruit, or snakefruit.
4. Squid ink with garcinia leaves (หมึกต้มใบชะมวง) - The squid was nice and tender and the soup with sour and sweet.
5. Old style fried fish cakes (ทอดมันโบราณ) - These Thai fried fish cakes were made with all fish and curry paste.
6. Catfish salt curry (แกงเกลือปลาดุก) - This is one of their speciality dishes at Loong Riang & Pamalee (ร้านลุงเรียง & ป้ามาลี), and it was packed with flavor.
7. Best omelet in the world (ไข่เจียวอร่อยที่สุดในโลก) - In all fun, it’s really called the best omelet in the world, and it was pretty life-changing.
8. Free range chicken boiled with snakefruit (ไก่บ้านต้มระกำ) - This soup was so sour, you’ll feel it in your bones! Again, this Thai jungle food recipe was made with snakefruit.
9. Catfish fried with fresh chilies (ปลาดุกผัดพริกสด) - The catfish was deep fried, and stir fried with lots of chilies and garlic.
10.Fried chicken with salt (ไก่คั่วเกลือ) - This fried chicken was boney, but unbelievable in flavor.
11. Pork ribs with yellow nightshade (หมูใบพายผัดมะเขือเหลือง) - Another classic jungle Thai food dish, with ribs and slices of yellow nightshade.
12.Jungle bird with holy basil (กระเพรานกป่า) - Final dish we ate was a type of Thai minced pheasant stir fried with wild holy basil.
Loong Riang & Pamalee (ร้านลุงเรียง & ป้ามาลี) is one of the most perfect Thai food jungle restaurants I’ve been to. Everything from the amazing and unique Thai dishes you can eat, to the outstanding country village atmosphere, to the friendly and passionate owners makes it such a stand-out restaurant in Thailand.

Gangtok Travel Guide - Sikkim India
Check out my website for more food | Have Facebook?
Gangtok, located in the Sikkim province of India, is slotted in between Nepal, Bhutan, and Tibet. It's truly a gorgeous area of the country and there is some amazing scenery. Sikkim has a majority Nepali population, so when you're there you'll feel more like you are in Nepal than in India.
The easiest way to get to Gangtok is by taking the Indian train to NJP (which stands for New Jalpaiguri) and then catching a jeep from NJP or Siliguri straight to Gangtok. The journey normally takes about 4 hours and you'll drive along a winding mountain road. The views are spectacular when you're on your way to Gangtok, rising into the Himalaya mountains.
Though I thought just being there and breathing the fresh air was one of the best reasons to visit Gangtok, there are a few things to do in and around town. The MG Marg walking street is the central area of town where you can walk around, go shopping for nearly anything you'd like and eat at a variety of restaurants. Taste of Tibet is an excellent restaurant that's located right along MG Marg and in this Gangtok travel guide, I would highly recommend you eat there when you visit. The Tibetan food dishes are wonderful especially their momos and shapale meat pies. You can also take the Gangtok Ropeway, a cable car that runs from the top of the hill to the bottom of the hill covering a distance of a kilometer. The ride is honestly a little on the scary side, suspended high above buildings and along the side of the mountain.
Once you get to the bottom of the hill you can then visit the Do-Drul Chorten, a Buddhist Tibetan temple where you can walk around. After visiting the temple it's then just a 10 minute walk back to the bottom of the Gangtok Ropeway where you'll be able to catch a ride back up to the center of the town.
There's actually not all that many specific attractions right in Gangtok, but there are many other things to do around the area of Sikkim. When I was there I didn't have a chance to visit the Ranka Monastery, a Buddhist Temple that's located about a 45 minute jeep drive away from Gangtok. It was a pleasant day trip and they served some seriously delicious local Sikkimese Tibetan food. If you visit northern India, Gangtok is a worthwhile stop, you'll surely enjoy it!
