Banska Stiavnice (Slovakia) Vacation Travel Video Guide
Travel video about destination Banska Stiavnice in Slovakia.
Banská Štiavnica is one of the most beautiful cities in Slovakia and whose historic buildings form its mediaeval centre. The old town, and silver mines of the surrounding area, have been designated as a World Cultural Heritage Site. The Kammer-Hof was created by the combination of three Gothic buildings during the sixteenth century. Up until the nineteenth century, the mining chamber and the first technical university in the world were located there. The Church Of The Assumption Of Mary was built by the Dominican Order at the beginning of the thirteenth century. For the first time in this region a rib vault was raised in its construction and served as a model for further buildings. However, at the beginning of the nineteenth century the church burned down and was rebuilt in Classical style. Now its altars and paintings shine out in all their glory and highlight the deep religious faith of both miners and mine owners alike. Since 1971, the New Castle has been a museum. On one floor, musical instruments, household items and clothing. Another floor contains numerous weapons and suits of armour which were used during hostilities by the Turks. The city underwent troubled times and its prosperity had to be defended. The wealth of the city and its mining of silver made Banská Štiavnica wealthy and created its historical splendour.

10 Things to do in Bratislava, Slovakia Travel Guide Video Transcript:
We're visiting Bratislava, Slovakia and in this video we're going to show you guys 10 things to do in Bratislava. Let's get started.
Our first stop was Devin Castle, which is located in Devin, a borough of Bratislava. This is the one attraction we visited that was a little further from the Old Town - a 30-minute bus ride.
Devin Castle is a ruined castle that sits on Slovak territory at the confluence of the Danube and Morava rivers.
We ate at a restaurant called “Modra Hviezda” which is located at the base of Bratislava Castle and feels like a cave.
Bratislava Castle was Built in the 9th century and modified over the centuries many times over, this 4-towered castle sits perched on a hill overlooking the Danube River.
You get nice views over the Old Town, plus you have the Slovak National Museum & the Baroque Gardens on the north side of the palace.
The following day, we set out to explore the Old Town and stopping cafe for a decadent breakfast.
Bratislava’s Old Town is compact & easy to explore on foot and cover most of the sights in one day. We went on our own do-it-yourself tour finding all sorts of interesting statues & landmarks.
The Blue Church is located on Bezručova Street, which is about a 10-15 minute walk from the Old Town designed in the art nouveau style.
Locals in Bratislava like to say that the best view of their city is from the UFO Bridge because you can’t see the UFO bridge. You get amazing views of Bratislava during sunset.
And while you’re down by the Danube, you can either enjoy a stroll along the river, or go on a sightseeing cruise.
Prašná bašta is another cozy restaurant located at basement level and we had another wonderful meal.
For sports fans be sure to check out a HC Slovan Bratislava ice hockey game. They play in the KHL and the level of hockey and entertainment value is fantastic.
And that’s a wrap for our trip to Bratislava. While we can see the appeal of doing this as a day trip from Vienna, we loved having the extra time to really enjoy the city, try out some great restaurants, and make it to some of the further attractions like Devin Castle. If you have a few days to spare, this is a great little capital to visit.
Any other things to do in Bratislava that we may have missed, feel free to share your suggestions with travellers in the comments below.
This is part of our Travel in Slovakia video series showcasing Slovak food (Slovakian food), Slovak culture (Slovakian culture) and Slovak cuisine (Slovakian cuisine).

Slovakia or Slovak Republic is a landlocked country in Central Europe. Not to be confused with Slovenia. It is surrounded by Austria to the west, Czech Republic to the northwest, Hungary to the south, Poland to the north and Ukraine to the east. Slovakia is a modern democratic country and is a member of the European Union.
The main reasons to visit Slovakia are its natural beauty, vivid history and great opportunities for relaxation (and due to the small size of the country, it is quite easy to combine all three). For the same reasons Lonely Planet put it in as number 5 on its Best in Travel 2013 - Top 10 countries list [2], being best for culture, adventure and off the beaten track.
Slovakia has nine national parks, which cover a relatively big portion of the country and feature the tallest part of the Carpathian Mountain Range, the High Tatras, which offer great opportunities for mountain and winter sports as well as great vistas. Geologically, a sizable part of Slovakia is made out of limestone, which in combination with many springs and rivers has resulted in formation of numerous caves (12 open to the public, several of which are UNESCO listed) and the beautiful rocky formations, canyons and waterfalls of the Slovak Paradise and Slovak Karst. Even outside these areas, there are some beautiful landscapes, and all of Slovakia is covered by thousands of well-marked hiking trails.
For history lovers, Slovakia has the highest number of castles and chateaux per capita in the world, ranging from simple ruins to well-preserved habitable castles with furnishings, so if you are a fan of medieval history, look no further. There are also numerous Gothic and Baroque cities and towns across Slovakia, including the capital. There are also well-preserved examples of wooden folk architecture, including churches made entirely out of wood and the tallest wooden altar in the world.
There are numerous mineral and thermal springs in Slovakia, and around some of these world-famous spas have been built that offer great curative therapies or just simple relaxation. You can also chill out, swim and sunbathe at the shores of several local lakes and pools or try AquaCity water park if you are feeling more adventurous. In particular, Bratislava boasts a lively nightlife as well and is a popular partying destination.

Bratislava, the capital with its beautiful historic center, Bratislava Castle and several churches and museums
Slovakia features a record-high number of castles and chateaux [15]. Some of them are little more than a pile of stones hidden in a deep forest, others are luxurious baroque mansions or citadels in the middle of towns. Especially worthwhile for tourists are the Spiš Castle, reported to be the largest castle in Central Europe, the Bojnice Castle built in the 19th century in a pseudo-romanesque style, and Devín Castle, an ancient archeological site and a sacred place for all Slavs

Slovakia: The Unknown Beauty (Full Video) - Reuploaded
Reuploaded a modified version in order to try to fix the music which was out of sync. Of course it didn't work. Great. You'll have to get over it, I'm sorry. Youtube is a steaming pile of crap.
The full video has finally arrived - and it's only one year late. Instead of reading this, you should go and watch it NOW.
Or wait, before you ask - the music (which is very epic) can be found here:
Maybe you could leave a comment if you liked the video?
Enough reading, go and watch it now. Thanks. And thanks for your patience, Epsilon - it took me way too long to get my ass moving and finish the video, but I hope it was worth the wait.
