St. Catharines, Ontario: Driving Around Downtown In 2017
A POV video, driving around the downtown area of St. Catharines, Ontario. Not the smoothest route, as you'll see, due to road closing construction on St. Paul Street.
St. Catherines is a city in Ontario, Canada, 56 kilometres east of Hamilton and 51 KM south of Toronto, direct line across Lake Ontario. The United States border (New York) is just 19 KM away and tourist trap Niagara Falls is 22 KM to the southeast.
The population of St. Catharines is around 133,000, a number that has remained steady since 1990. In the metro area, there are 400,000 inhabitants. Known as the 'Garden City', the area was first settled in 1783, was incorporated as a town in 1845 and as a city in 1876.
St. Catharines is home to Brock University, a school that was founded in 1964. The Welland Canal has four locks withing the city. The Meridian Centre is a new venue that can be seen at the end of the video. The arena is home to the Niagara IceDogs of the Ontario Hockey League and holds 5,300 for hockey.
The city is the birthplace of Hockey Hall of Fame goalie Gerry Cheevers. Cheevers played his entire NHL career with the Boston Bruins with a four year stint in between in the World Hockey Association (WHA) with the Cleveland Crusaders.

BRUCE TRAIL
BETHSBOOTSAHIKING
Bruce trail ...A journey of a lifetime.
Bruce trail ...A journey for a life cut short.
March 7th, 2001 Beth's birthday, a first date for Beth and Rob.
Went to Webster's falls to hike some of the bruce trail.
Love started on that icy trail next to the fast running water.
They became Bruce trail hikers
The goal became to hike the Bruce trail end to end in our own time, in our own way.
Bill and Sharon, bruce trail hiking friends caught up with Beth and Rob.
We decided would do the bruce trail together.
The four of us enjoying a great footpath to Tobermory.
The four of us only hiked one weekend at Rattlesnake point (approx only 40km of the total bruce trail).
May 31st, 2012 @ 6:35 P.M. we lost Beth.
A great person, true friend, fantastic mother and my beautiful wife.
Something special needed to happen to honor Beth and with many friends and great effort we had two very successful golf tournaments. We raised over $20,000 for the Bruce trail. As a result of these efforts there is now a permanent plaque located on the bruce trail at Thirty Creek near Beamsville in her honor.
On June 1st 2013, Beth's Boots a Hiking, her memorial bruce trail hike started. Rob was going to re hike our steps and now instead of Beth it was her boots that accompanied him.
Rob did several solo hike and bikes, leaving my bike at the endpoint so he did a one way hike and rode back to the truck.
This was a time to reflect, Beth was there.
Now as the three started hiking together where the four of us that left off, a very heartfelt day. One to remember.
There was a commitment between us, we would finish what we started, we were all in...the whole bruce trail end to end.
We did day hikes on a regular basis, usually around 20 km. We hiked in all four seasons, the cool often wet and muddy spring, the hot and buggy summer, the wonderful fall colors and the snow of the winter. Weather became secondary as we just enjoyed the trail. Some thought us crazy as we never called off a day of hiking, rain snow ice hot cold or just plain perfect.
It was great to be on the bruce trail.
The Bruce trail offered us many adventures, climbs, descents, crevices, rivers, waterfalls too many to write about.
We all knew Beth was with us as she made sure to play a few tricks on us but mostly she presented her wonderful smile in the reflections, rainbows and even the northern lights.
Once we got further north our day trips became overnighters so we could do two days of hiking. We did not rough it, we stayed in many nice places be it hotels, cabins, a condo or cottage.
There came a special day when we could declare that we had hiked from Queenston to Collingwood, it was a milestone for us, we knew we could do it all.
We now decided on 3 day hikes once a month with a grand finally week at the end. Our goal was 50 km a weekend, to some this is a lot, to some it is not much, for us it worked.
Always Beth was with us, we talked about her, shed some tears, laughed with her and let her guide us.
We met some fantastic people along the way.
Marie ( A Walk of Kindness)(ALS bruce trail fund raiser)
Virginia ( Virginia vs Bruce)(women's current record of the fastest end to end bruce trail)
We only met briefly on the trail but we made a difference to each other's journey.
BRUCE TRAIL (BETHSBOOTSAHIKING) BRUCE TRAIL.
For us this was a journey of a lifetime.
Our final 84 km's were planned for a one week celebration. We rented a cottage at cape hurd, added a hot tub and some friends.
On Friday Oct 9th at 2:45 P.M. bruce trail end to end was complete. We touched the northern cairn.
We finished what we started .
