Perched on the top of a cliff with a FABULOUS view of the Pyrenees mountains which are close by, Pau is charming and makes for a lovely stop along the way as you explore the southwest region and head either to Lourdes or the the Basque country further west.
The castle, recently renovated, is a wonderful example of Medieval and Renaissance architecture, tower, turrets, and furniture included. It is fun to explore and imagine how different life was like when even a king had to worry about heating his home!!
Henry IV was born in the Chateau of Pau and left a lasting imprint on Paris. He was the person who made the Place des Vosges and major parts of the Louvre, but in THIS episode you will hear about his origins and his attachment to his home country in the principality of Bearn.

Great street marketing event in the heart of the square of La Defense in Paris to promote the Destination Pays basque. A black box was placed in the center of the Square, in which the citizens were invited to get in. The few audacious, intrigued, who got in the box, were not disappointed ! In front of the astonished eyes of the crowd, instantaneous transformations occured.

A propos de la rando : une de mes randonnées préférées dans l'arrière-pays Basque.
- Trace : disponible sur Visorando.
- Accessibilité : Bons marcheurs. Ca grimpe. N'oubliez pas le bâton.
- Ombre : modérée. Prévoir de l'eau.
- Départ : Sare, panneau circuit des Palombières sur la route après les grottes.
- Temps : environ 3h15. 500m de dénivelé. 11kms.
- Intérêt : vues sur l'océan, les montagnes, la Rhune, les palombières, de beaux endroits de pique-nique, la faune et la flore.
Randonnée Pyrénées | Béarn : le Trek des 3 Vallées - 2ème partie
En route vers le final époustouflant de ce trek magistral du Béarn ! De Sanchèse au sommet du Pic d'Anie, second opus de ces Carnets de Rando spéciaux.
Deuxième partie de ma route sur le Trek des 3 Vallées et une identité toute différente, résolument tournée vers les sommets. En quittant le Val de Lescun, le randonneur fait son entrée dans un univers de géants. A la fraîche sensation des estives succède la démesure grisante de l'altitude. De Lhers à La Pierre Saint-Martin, on y apprend que le massif de l'Anie peut s'aborder autrement que par le GR10 ou la HRP. Un choc visuel permanent qui s'achève en apothéose avec l'ascension du Pic d'Anie, formidable promontoire sur un Béarn revisité.
