Places To Visit In Costa Brava: Tossa de mar, Blanes, Empuriabrava
Places To Visit In Costa Brava-Tossa de mar-Blanes-Empuriabrava
The Costa Brava is one of the most beautiful areas of Catalonia and probably the whole of Spain. Its coast is lapped by the crystal waters of the Mediterranean and its interior overlooked by the spectacular and mighty Pyrenees.
The Costa Brava is a 160-kilometre stretch of beautiful, rugged coastline in the region of Catalonia in the North East corner of Spain. Natural beauty, endless miles of sandy beaches and summer sunshine. You'll find modern, international tourist resorts with high-rise hotels alongside unspoilt fishing villages, sheltered rocky coves and medieval towns with ancient castles. The Costa stretches from Blanes, North of Barcelona, to Roses near the French border.
#TOSSA DE MAR:
Tossa de Mar is a municipality belonging to the county of La Selva, in the province of Girona, on the Costa Brava so this is a perfect place to enjoy its beaches. In the bay of Tossa is a small promontory on the beach, in which a medieval walled city lies, called the Vila Vella, who has seven round towers. Its origin is estimated in the twelfth century and was built to prevent pirate attacks. Inside are the remains of a church and the palace of the governor of the XIV century.
A dozen fine beaches and bays (most notably Platja Gran, Mar Menuda and Cala Giverola) and the imposing Cadiretes massif, ideal for exploring on foot or by mountain bike, make up the privileged natural surroundings of Tossa de Mar. The historic centre of the village is dominated by a towering 12th century wall which encircles the quiet streets and the seafaring atmosphere of the Vila Vella.
Imagine a place where you can travel in time back to a former age…Tossa is a real open-air museum where prehistoric remains overlap with Roman Túrissa, medieval Tursa and today's Tossa, one-time retreat for artists and intellectuals and now host town for tourists and visitors. This heritage gives evidence of all those people who loved this piece of land and made it their home, from now on also yours.
#BLANES:
Just 60 km north of Barcelona, Blanes extends for 4km along the stunning south coastline of the COSTA BRAVA. Rich with long sweeping sandy bays, little rocky coves, or deserted bays... If you like the wonders of nature Blanes has a perfect combination of nature, climatic conditions and topographical feature. The Mediterranean town of Blanes is a popular tourist hot spot for Spanish holiday makers, as well as those from other European nations. Blanes also prides itself in offering its visitors a taste of real Spain, with traditional fiestas & street, as well as the vibrant family friendly atmosphere with attractive parks and flower beds throughout the town. The nicest and most enchanting beaches you will find lie on the Costa Brava!! Beaches here have been awarded the European Blue Flag for cleanliness and clarity of water for several years running. The weather is in the main welcoming all year round. With average highs of 31°C in the summer months & 16°C in the winter, it is possible to enjoy an outdoor life at any time of the year. However be aware during the winter season low temperatures can be a good deal cooler than in Spain's southern regions.
#EMPURIABRAVA
Empuriabrava (Ampuriabrava in Spanish) is one of the most unusual towns along the Costa Brava.Sporting nearly 24 kilometers (15 miles)1 of canals, and 5,000 private jetties, Empuriabrava is the largest residential marina in the world. They call itself “the largest Marina in the world “, an area with more water ways than even Venice. Whether this is a fact remains to be proved. Empuriabrava, however, has an immense number of canals, where boat owners have their own private moorings in front of their houses.Empuriabrava was built on a swamp in 1968 (at that time still Ampuriabrava). Today the place covers an area of over 503 hectares, about 10 % of the total area are canals or port, and this probably counts primarily for the popularity of the resort. From the tiniest boat to the biggest cruising yacht, everything can be found here.

Illa Roja
Following the coast towards the South East, you will find the Illa Roja beach, a nude beach recognised internationally. This beautiful beach, one of the most iconic of the Begurense coast is known for its rocky island. It is a calm place, without crowds, soft sand and clear water.
Aiguablava
Its shallow, calm waters and the range of services that one can find just a stone’s throw from the beach, makes it very suitable for the whole family. It is the most southern beach of Begur and in the surrounding area there are several restaurants, shops and services. So close, you almost don’t have to leave the sand to reach them. It has toilets and adapted showers and also offers the possibility of taking part in various water sports, such as the diving centre. Of fine sand, this beach is almost twice as long as it is wide (approximately 40 x 80 metres). To get there just follow the numerous directions to the Aiguablava Parador which is located on top of the cliff next to the beach. There is a car park right next to it, which in summer requires payment.
LaFranc was featured by the Telegraph as one of the best beaches and one of Europe’s top hidden seaside resorts. Llafranc is one of the most cosmopolitan beaches in Costa Brava. Lafranc offers the best beach to have the traditional experience of fishing boats combined with the glamorous yacht visiting this part of Spain.
Llafran, part of the Palafrugell municipality, has attracted artist, film stars, wealthy personalities and more.
Tamariu
According to the British Telegraph newspaper, the beach at Tamariu ranks as one of the best beaches on the Costa Brava. Embraced by pine clad headlands, the horse shoe shaped beach is very pretty, family friendly and sheltered. Just behind the beach is the pedestrian promenade, where there are some cafes, restaurants and beach gear shops. Parents can happily while away a little time in the shade, sipping whatever they fancy, with their children, only yards away from them, play safely on the sand.

Girona Province - More than just the Costa Brava
The province of Girona is situated in the autonomous community of Catalonia, and is divided into the three areas: The Costa Brava (coastal region), the inland region, and the mountainous area of the Girona Pyrenees.
The diversity of the Girona Province is immense; the breathtaking region of the Pyrenees with its snowy mountains, ancient villages and beautiful emerald valleys and the Mediterranean Costa Brava, with its beaches and coves of crystal clear waters, with their pine clad hillside backdrop. Finally the inland countryside, rich with crops, sunflowers and woodland areas; with charming villages, and of course the historical capital of the province, Girona itself.
The Costa Brava is one of the most visited destinations in Spain, but it is just one of the many jewels that you can explore in the province of Girona. Come and discover all of Girona's treasures!
