Ducati Museum Visit | Museo Ducati
July 2017, will be a very special moment in MotoLeague's life. After countless years ogling on posters and some rare glimpses of these red Italian beauties, I was able to visit the Ducati factory at Borgo Panigale, Bologna, Italy in person.
The museum (museo) has historical masterpieces which shaped what Ducati is today. From the Cucciolo (1946) 00:15 to the Superleggera (2013) 03:31 , most of the Moto GP motorcycles and also some race suits worn by these champion riders.
Its a history of Ducati motorcycles, and a great place to experience and interact with these legacy machines.
My favorites being,
00:27 - Siluro 100 - based on a 98cc engine, which set 46 world speed records on the oval track in Monza in 1956
00:30 - Desmodromic timing system - Desmo is Ducati's trademark and still used today. This device shows how the system works
00:44 - 175 T - the bike which was used to travel around the world in 1957 covering 60000 km, 5 continents, 36 countries and yes they visited New Delhi, India
00:57 - 450 Scrambler - The scrambler which started it all. The new one is very similar to this rebel icon
01:08 - 750 GT - The first super-bike by Ducati, is also among the most beautiful motorcycles of all time
01:37 - Ducati at Dakar - many might not know this but yes Ducati Elefant was a top performer in the Paris Dakar rally in the 1990 & 1994
02:21 - 916 - this masterpiece designed by Massimo Tamburini transformed the motorcycle into an authentic work of art
02:31 - Monster 900 - Motorcycle back to its fundamental essence, a simple sport bike, so simple in-fact that the common term used to describe them was naked
02:44 - Desmosedici GP07 - The bike ridden by Casey Stoner (#27) that won 10 Grand Prix
03:47 - The Race Suits Evolution - a set of race suits right from 1975 which incorporated the first knee and elbow protectors and a full face helmet to the latest technologically advanced protectors of 2013

Umbria, Italy: Hot Air Balloon ride
Oh' what a perfect setting this was...flying over the beautiful Umbria region and in the valley of Assisi on an utterly gorgeous day. This hot air ballon adventure was my first and i am so glad i did this. Not very many people imagine doing a hot air ballon ride in Italy but trust me, it was worth every moment, especially when you get to wind it up with a 'wine tasting breakfast' afterwards. Big smiles & a big thumbs up from me!

Sperlinga (En),uno dei Borghi più belli d'Italia
ll Castello di Sperlinga rappresenta un meraviglioso contrasto tra escavazioni rupestri preistoriche e strutture architettoniche medievali.Costituito da un imponente costone di roccia arenaria, sicuramente utilizzato dalle popolazioni indigene sicane come luogo di culto ( area sacra o necropoli rupestre), subisce delle modificazioni durante il periodo bizantino e saraceno per essere trasformato in presidio militare; infine nel periodo normanno viene dotato delle strutture murarie e dei ritrovati difensivi militari. La particolarità della parte muraria si evince nella zona del ponte levatoio, le grandi sale di rappresentanza, la chiesetta, la zona residenziale ed in cima i resti della torre di difesa.Già famoso ed importante nel periodo normanno e svevo, il Castello di Sperlinga è entrato a pieno titolo nella storia della Sicilia per non aver aderito al Vespro Siciliano nel 1282 tanto che i soldati angioini hanno trovato riparo al suo interno per quasi un anno e mezzo sicuramente, aiutati dai popolani. Nel primo ambiente o vestibolo del castello, si nota sull’arco a sesto acuto la famosa frase latina “Quod Siculis Placuit Sola Sperlinga Negavit”. (Tutto Ciò che piacque ai Siciliani solo Sperlinga lo negò)
Quod Siculis placuit, sola Sperlinga negavit (in lingua italiana quello che fu stabilito dai siciliani, fu disatteso solo da Sperlinga) è una espressione latina che si legge su un portale del castello di Sperlinga ed usata spesso, anche al di fuori del suo contesto originario, per indicare un comportamento isolato che si discosta da quello condiviso da tutti gli altri. Trae la sua origine da un episodio della guerra del Vespro quando i siciliani si ribellarono alla dominazione angioina e decisero l'uccisione di tutti i francesi. Solamente a Sperlinga un gruppo di soldati riuscì a resistere per lungo tempo, aiutata dai soccorsi della popolazione che era di etnia franco-normanna.
Dal 1266 al 1282, la Sicilia è sotto la dominazione degli Angioini, originari della Provenza, i quali si comportano con estrema crudeltà. La capitale viene spostata a Napoli facendo della Sicilia una provincia. I Siciliani, non potevano portare armi addosso questo autorizzava gli angioini a perquisire anche le donne. Il 31 marzo 1282 a Palermo, davanti la Chiesa di Santo Spirito, si riunirono i Siciliani per la festa; l’ordine venne garantito dalla presenza di duecento soldati angioini i quali però si abbandonarono a perquisizioni poco licenziose sulle donne; offesa una donna lo sposo ingelosito uccise uno dei soldati, i siciliani inferociti si scagliarono contro gli altri. Alla notizia della rivolta una guarnigione angioina trovò riparo nella fortezza del Castello di Sperlinga.
