Insua Fort and Moledo Beach aerial view - Caminha - 4K Ultra HD
Insua Fort is located on a small island on the extreme northern Portugal guarding the River Minho which borders Portugal and Spain.
A Monastery was founded in 1392 by franciscans in the island over a pre-existent small ermitage. Place of cult, the island was visited by King D. Manuel I after amplification of the monastery. Several wars with Spain and invasions from corsaries obliged the construction of the existing fortress, between 1649 and 1652. Its construction was ordered by D. Diogo de Lima.
A well for drinking water supplied the garrison, consisting of a Governor (Commander) and twelve squares, alternating weekly. This well is notable for is at sea, being one of only three in the world.
Moledo Beach, on the northern end, close to the border to Spain just beside the river Minho, a lovely sandy beach, is distinguished mainly by its beautiful landscape.
The dunes are protected from wooden walkways which combine with the landscape of the mountains that extends into the horizon.

Ponta da Piedade, Camilo beach and Dona Ana beach aerial view - Lagos - Algarve
Ponta da Piedade, Camilo Beach and Dona Ana Beach aerial view -Lagos - Algarve
With a magnificent view of the Atlantic and the shapes of cliffs carved by the sea and time, Ponte da Piedade (English: Mercy Point) is an idyllic setting of cut out rocks that sharply contrast with the greenish blue waters below.
Located 2 km from Lagos, full of grottos, unknown bays and quiet beaches, the Ponte da Piedade is particularly captivating when viewed from the sea.
Long, narrow stairs lead you down to a small cove where pretty boats wait for visitors wishing to explore this natural paradise. On these trips, experienced fishermen wind their way expertly through the gigantic stone sculptures whilst revealing their names and secrets. Some names given to these misshapen rocks and perpetuated by fishermen include General De Gaulle, Chaminé (chimney), Catedral (cathedral), Belas-Artes (fine arts), Camelo (camel), Museu (museum), Submarino (underwater), Cozinha (kitchen) and Gruta dos Amores (grotto of love).
Further enriching this setting are the many bird species that make it their habitat. A little distance away from the coastline, there are several islands on the slopes of which it is common to see nests of peregrine falcons, ravens, jackdaws, alpine swifts and pallid swifts, as well as colonies of egrets and cattle egrets.
Those daring to climb up 182 steps to the top of the lighthouse will have a view of the Ponte da Piedade promontory, which marks the limit between land and sea.

Minho, Portugal
Minho is the extreme northwest region in Portugal. There we can find very beautiful places and cities. Braga, its main city, is also known as “Portuguese Rome due to the number of churches and shrines we can find there. Not far away, we can visit Barcelos, the typical Minho town, known for the crafts cock, one of the national symbols. Guimarães is considered Portugal birthplace; it has a beautiful castle and a very old historical center. In the north, in Lima river mouth, is located the pearl of Minho: Viana do Castelo. Besides a visit to the top of Santa Luzia Sanctuary, Viana do Castelo also deserves a journey of a few hours by the centre. Above it, in the river Lima banks, we find Ponte de Lima, a medieval town that surprises whoever visits it. Caminha, a beautiful village in the border area, is located in a place blessed by nature: Minho mouth. In Esposende, where Cávado river flows, we can appreciate the pure nature of Fão Dunes and, a little further down, the two cities Póvoa de Varzim and Vila do Conde, each one with its charms. It is also in this region that we can visit the only national park in Portugal: Peneda-Gerês, not included in this video - a piece dedicated to this park is planned for the next months.

Travel ideas. The North of Portugal, town fortress Valença do Minho
Subscribe to the channel
Valença is one of the interesting and attractive small Portuguese towns just at the border of Spain.
The most interesting things to visit are mainly inside the fortress that looks down to the Minho River and Spain.
Valença’s fortress is a piece of Gothic and baroque military architecture. The first walls were built in the 13th century.
It attracts a lot of visitors from Spain who come over to Portugal to shop for the wonderful Portuguese linen.
The city walls have been destroyed several times but they have always been restored and still very well preserved.
Along the north wall several old cannons very well maintained are positioned pointing to the river and Spain as if to remind everyone of their old purpose.
Sitting on the wall of the fortress, facing Spain is something special, looking over the town of Tui with the Cathedral of Tui as the highest point that is truly a beautiful view.
In 1879 Portugal and Spain agreed to construct a bi-functional (road and rail) bridge. The bridge was built inspired by Eiffel works. The bridge is still in use although a new bridge was built south of the older one
You can also get some nice traditional Portuguese food in the restaurants in the old town.
