The FORBIDDEN Pink Lakes of YUCATAN, MEXICO
We drove from Merida, Yucatan to take a wildlife tour and get up close to Las Coloradas at Rio Lagartos.
►Subscribe to our channel!
We joined our friends on an all-inclusive trip from Mérida, Yucatán to the strange pink lakes of Las Coloradas on the Yucatan Peninsula, a few hours away from Cancun.
One of the things many people love about Mérida is its close proximity to so many attractions and vacation destinations. You have the beach of Progreso 30 minutes away to the North. You’re an hour away from the gorgeous beaches and flamingos in Celestún, and just a few hour’s drive away from popular destinations like: Holbox, Playa Del Carmen, Cancun, and Isla Mujeres. Additionally, you’re near many cenotes, Mayan ruins, and attractions like these pink lakes.
As expats in this beautiful country, we’ve been fortunate to be able to travel Mexico, and make videos about many things in our travel vlog.
If you’re looking for something to do while traveling in the Mayan Riviera or near Mérida, you may want to look into this jungle boat ride of Las Coloradas. You’ll see crocodiles, pink flamingos, and an array of wildlife, in addition to the pink lakes.
Disclaimer: In exchange for making this video, we got a discounted rate on the tour from Yucatan Tours and Travels. If you’d like to book this trip, here’s their contact information:

Yucatan top ten attractions / Things to do in Yucatan Mexico.
The Mexican state of Yucatan is located on the peninsula of the same name, bordered by the states of Quintana Roo and Campeche. The state capital is the beautiful colonial city of Merida, and other major cities and towns include Valladolid, Izamal and its port, Progreso, on the Gulf of Mexico. Yucatán offers the adventurous visitor a wealth in Mayan archaeological ruins (the most famous being Chichen Itza, Ek Balam, and Uxmal), stunning colonial architecture, important caves and grottoes, and ecological preserves and sanctuaries such as Río Lagartos and Celestun.
LAS COLORADAS YUCATAN - THE RAINBOW SALT FLATS OF MEXICO
This is Las Coloradas Yucatan, the rainbow salt flats of Rio Lagartos Mexico. It took us 4 trips to get this one right, and finally we got a our quadcopter the DJI Inspire 1 drone flight in! You can find pools of green, orange, and pink here. These are ancient drying beds for salt, the more pink the water, the higher the concentration. This place is in the middle of nowhere, and is a helluva thing to see! It's similar to Salar de Uyuni in Bolivia, just add a little bit more color ;)
In our 4 visits to Las Coloradas, we only saw about 5 other people visiting. It's basically unheard of, and you can spend the whole day by yourself there. The drive from Merida or Cancun is about 3 hours, but it's worth it as there's lots of other things to see up there as well. Flamingos, Mud Baths, Dolphins, etc.
If Mexico is on your travel list, and you find yourself in the Yucatan Peninsula, make the trip to Las Coloradas.
