WHANG OD Tattoo... GONE WILD?
In this Philippines travel vlog, I head to Kalinga in northern Luzon to find the tattoo artist legend Apo Whang Od. The last mambatok, a style of traditional tattoo found only in the Philippines.
The people of Kalinga were head hunters. Buscalan, the home of Wang Od was particularly famous for their strange tradition of tattooing. They thought tattoos were beautiful, and the women would cover themselves in full body tattoos to attract men. The men however, would have to earn their tattoos by bringing back the heads of rival tribes. The more ink, the greater the warrior.
After being featured recently in a documentary, and multiple TV shows, visiting Whang-Od and her granddaughters has become a tourist attraction. Many people make the trip from Manila to receive one.
It's about a 12h bus ride north of Manila to Sagada, from there, it's another 4 hours to the trail to Buscalan, then an hour walk.
To my filipino and filipina fans. Would do you get a tattoo from Apo Whang Od?
Big thanks to my friends Joan of Art, Ken's life Journey, and Hannah for all the help organizing this trip!

✯ Experiences over Possessions ✯
Hola Amigos and welcome back to Polanco, Mexico City! Polanco is often considered as the RICHEST area in Mexico City, HOWEVER, residents of Mexico City will probably tell you otherwise as there are many other affluent areas of the city such as Santa Fe, Lomas de Chapultepec and more!
Polanco is popular with tourists and ex-pats and is often considered to be safer than other areas of Mexico City. Due to the higher level of wealth in the area, you can find some amazing high-end restaurants such as Pujol. However, if you're a budget traveller, digital nomad or simply looking for budget food when you're in Mexico City, can you realistically come to Polanco and find $15 tacos? We answer that question in this video!
We're heading to two spots in Polanco - El Rey de Suadero, which offers dishes for as low as $16MXN. Suadero is part of a cow or pig from between the belly and leg, also common in some South American countries, and is often found in dishes such as tacos and gordita.
Secondly, we head to El Turix, a small and popular foodie spot away from the main streets specialising in among other things, Panuchos, which is a Yucatan dish (one of my favourites) for as little as $30MXN.
Polanco isn't for everyone, but I've always really liked it. If you're coming to CDMX I hope you do too!

Mexico's Cutest Beach Town | Exploring Sayulita
The first thing you notice when you arrive in Sayulita is the VIBE. This little Mexican beach town has soaked up the energy of the laid-back surfers and sunbathers you see everywhere. Surfboards and bare feet are common sights, as well as golf carts which are the town’s main form of transportation. Sayulita is friendly, walkable, and chilled out. There’s a charm you feel from the people and colourful flags that hang above the narrow streets. Sayulita is a Pueblo Magico, a special designation given to places in Mexico that have a distinct cultural identity. Mexico is full of colour to begin with, but Sayulita is one of the most colourful towns I’ve visited in the whole country. When everywhere you look is bright and cheerful, you can’t help but feel bright and cheerful yourself.

TOKYO CAPSULE HOTEL TOUR
It's our first night in Japan ever and we're staying at a CAPSULE HOTEL! The futuristic design gave me galaxy vibes. It felt like we were inside a spaceship floating among the stars.
The pods turned out to be more spacious than expected. I did not get claustrophobic, but everyone's level of comfort varies in enclosed spaces. How about the rest of the experience? Watch the full video to see the detailed tour!

Thanks to Frank and Jerry of Zouba Tours: for taking me around. I paid for this tour, but they did a great job and I would recommend them.
Kunming, Yunnan, China - Kunming is the capital and largest city in Yunnan province China. So I was excited to explore the local market in Kunming and eat as much street food as possible!
Here are all the Chinese street food dishes we ate throughout the market:
Rice pudding - 5 RMB ($0.76) - This was slightly fermented, and sweet, like a rice alcohol pudding. It was pretty good, but quite sweet, so I couldn’t eat that much of it.
Dumpling - 1 RMB ($0.15) - I saw these dumplings sizzling and hissing and there was no way I could walk by without trying one. Stuffed inside were leek and egg. They were a little on the oily side, but delicious.
Whole duck - 20 RMB ($3.03) - Yunnan is famous for roast duck, and there’s a version that’s comparable even to Beijing style. Style I was excited to find a stall that at the market that specialize in Yunnanese roast duck. It was delicious and the owners were very friendly as well.
Pickled pears - 5 RMB ($0.76) - This was an interesting snack, and supposed to be very healthy and good for digestion.
Drink - 2 RMB ($0.30) - This drink was incredible sweet, but refreshing.
Tofu Noodles - 5.5 RMB ($0.83) - Another extremely popular Chinese street food snack at the market was tofu noodles - I’ve had tofu and noodles, but not really mixed before. It was a little plain and starchy, but from all the sauces, it was taty.
Rice balls - 5 RMB ($0.76) - We also tried sesame rice balls which were delicious.
Jacuzzi braised ½ chicken - 15 RMB ($2.27) - This was one of the highlights of the market for me, mainly because the owner was so friendly and his giant jacuzzi of boiling chickens was amazing to see! The chicken was a little bony, but flavorful.
Yellow soybean porridge - 3.5 RMB ($0.53) - As we were leaving the market, we stopped for one last bowl of soybean porridge to eat with youtiau, Chinese donuts. I wasn’t expecting to like it as much as I did, but it was delicious. It was very warming and hearty.
Finally to complete this Chinese street food tour in Kunming, Jerry and I, along with his family ate Chinese Yunnanese bbq. It was tasty and a great way to end this amazing day of street food.
Special thanks to Zouba Tours ( for arranging everything in this video. I paid for this tour, but I think they did a great job, and I thoroughly enjoyed the food and the tour.
That completes Day 4 of this Chinese food tour of Yunnan. If you haven’t already, watch the full series here:

About cockfighting:
Known as Sabong, the sport has been a big part of Filipino culture for a long time. It is a legal sport, and a billion dollar industry, almost as big at the NBA in America. There's even a website called cockfightlive.com where people bet on matches and watch livestreams. Quite the interesting culture!
