10 Foods You Must Try in the Swiss Mountains
Between Cheeses, Dried Meats, Fresh Fishes or Wild Plants, without forgetting lots of different drinks, the beautiful landscapes of Switzerland offer a lot of palatable experiences.
We have been invited by the Region Jura & Three Lakes to discover some of its best products and we totally fell for them! And not only because we had Absinthe just before :) Here are our top 10 :
1. Lake Fishes, among which trouts, pikes or perchs
2. Absinthe, because in case you didn't know the Green Fairy was born in the core of Jura, between Switzerland and France.
3. Tête de Moine, the famous Rose Cheese is made in a few farms in this part of West Switzerland
4. Damassine, a really flavorful (and strong) Prune Alcohol whose fruit is said to have been originally imported from Damas, Syria. In this video, we were randomly invited by really nice Swiss friends whose homemade Damassine was a hit for us!
5. Wild plants are everywhere, and especially where we don't look. I can now definitely say the best oregano ever was not grown!
6. Cheese fondue, but also raclette, mountain cheeses, croûte and a lot of other cheese speciality. Shall we remind you what Swiss is known for?
7. Rösti! Not especially a regional specialty, but this potato dish is definitely to try in the country and a must-have during the Swiss national day.
8. Toétché, a traditional cottage cheese savoury cake whose flavour and texture are really unique
9. Chasselas, a wine grape typical from the region that produces a crisp and fresh white wine, that surprisingly goes really well with cheese :)
10. Saucisson de Neuchatel is a smoked and hearty sausage from the city of Neuchatel, here cooked in red wine. From the region of course.
Let's add chocolate, dried meats, horse meat and a lot more cheeses, and you'll never come back from the area :)

Lake Geneva, Switzerland: 24 Hours Guide
The Lake Geneva region is, simply put, STUNNING. In the Canton of Vaud, the Lake Geneva region has so much natural beauty, between the centuries old villages, the lakeside views, the UNESCO Lavaux terraced vineyards, the cosmopolitan cities and the striking mountains. We spent a day touring Vevey, stopping at the Farmer's Market, Charlie Chaplin's new Chaplin's World, Nestle's museum Nest, as well at Saint Saphorin. We sipped chasselas with a family run winery in Lavaux and made local cheese up in Château-d'Oex. We explored the green countryside on the GoldenPass Panoramic train through the mountains. There's so much to say about this amazing region, but it's probably better to just watch.
Featured: Lausanne, Vevey, Saint-Saphorin, Lavaux, Château-d'Oex, Rougement and The Royal Savoy Hotel, The Grand Hotel du Lac, Chaplin's World, Le Chalet, Auberge de L'onde, Domaine du Croix Duplex, Le National and more!

Well, the scenery is quite lovely especially on a sunny day like this, but it is kind of standard, it's the usual nice view you'll get out the window, until you reach the shores of Lake Geneva, and then something very special happens.
You’re entering a UNESCO World Heritage Site, the Lavaux Vineyard Terraces, which is the largest vineyard region in all of Switzerland. It stretches for about 30 km along the northern shores of Lake Geneva, from the Castle of Chillon to the eastern outskirts of Lausanne.
It's a beautiful sight to see, and it's also a very productive land, growing the Chasselas grape which is used in the production of white wine, a dry and fruity popular wine here in Switzerland. And these vineyards are an outstanding ecological example of a thousand-year interaction between people and their environment in which the local resources were optimized to produce this highly-valued wine.
These wine terraces have been in continuous use and cultivation ever since the eleventh century when Benedictine and Cistercian monasteries controlled the area and began the farming.
It's believed the wine cultivation here actually goes further back to the Roman days. It demonstrates how with proper control and protection a sensitive environmental area can continue to be productive for thousands of years.
However, in recent times, there has been some threat in the face of fast-growing urban settlements of Lausanne and this vulnerability has prompted protection measures strongly supported by local communities and reinforced by the UNESCO World Heritage designation.
It truly is one of the most beautiful stretches of vineyards that you'll ever see from a train, especially when you get to look at it for about 5 to 10 minutes as you’re rolling along. So this is not a place to be taking a nap on the train. You want to be glued to the window, taking your pictures and soaking up the vista.
Soon enough you’ll be arriving at the main train station of Lausanne, and here you generally get off and connect with the TGV that will take you on directly north into France. But if you have enough time between your train connections, it's worth having a quick look at Lausanne.
You can hop on the Metro in the train station and it quickly brings you down to the lakeshore, a delightful spot for a brief walk.
“Seven minutes from Lausanne train station down to Ouchy, we cross over.”
On such a warm sunny day with lush flowers and foliage in the park it almost seems like you're on the shores of the Mediterranean. But we’re on the Swiss shores of Lake Geneva, also called Lac Leman by the French, who own the southern shore.
In the nineteenth century Ouchy was a separate fishing village and then became incorporated as the harbor of Lausanne, and now it's purely a pleasure center.

boat ride from Vevey-Marché to Lausanne
The Lavaux is a region is the canton of Vaud in Switzerland, mostly in the district of Lavaux. It was built mostly by monks about 800 years ago and consist of 830 hectares of terraced wineyards. It benefits of a temperate climate, but the southern aspect of the terraces with the reflection of the sun in the lake and the stone walls gives a mediterranean character to the region. The main wine grape variety grown here is the Chasselas.
Under cantonal law, the vineyards of the Lavaux are protected from development. Since July 2007, the Lavaux is one of the UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
