Travel El Salvador | SOLO FEMALE TRAVELER | Ep. 48 | Ruta de las Flores
Visiting Ruta de las Flores is one of the top attractions and things to do while traveling in El Salvador. The scenic mountainous road starts from Sonsonate, and goes through a series of traditional elsalvadorian villages; Juayúa, Apaneca, Nahuizalco, Salcoatitán and Concepción de Ataco. Ruta de las Flores got its name from flowers that bloom in May and is totally worth the visit. I backpacked my way to Juayúa where I visited the weekend food festival and got to enjoy cheap traditional El Salvadorian street food. Although I was visiting Ruta de Las Floras too early for it to be blossoming, I really enjoyed seeing the different colonial villages and trying elsalvadorian coffee in Ataco (yummy!). I know a lot of people skip El Salvador, and say it is really dangerous (especially for a solo female traveler!) but I felt totally safe walking around the villages (even as a girl traveling alone). Getting to these Juayúa and Ataco was really easy - Just took a couple of local buses.

El Salvador Flower Route and Santa Ana Volcano | 90+ Countries with 3 Kids
Ruta de las Flores - Flower Route is one of El Salvador’s most popular tours because of its picturesque abundance of flowers along the 22-mile road. It is surrounded by mountains as well, it looks divine and if you have time to make a few stops, you get the chance to visit many wonderful villages like Nahuizalco, Juayúa, Apaneca.
In addition to the flowers, there are many coffee plantations that you can see along the road. Coffee is a really important national product, and you get the opportunity to see the beans up close in its natural form. On this tour, we’ve really got the chance to explore different parts of this country.

Ivan took us to a lake canyon near Santa Ana, Lago de Coatepeque. Then around the flower route stopping in little villages with Central parks, churches, a christ statue, markets, look out points … and to the hotel at night. We ended the day with hot springs!!!
El Salvador has a bad reputation for being dangerous but we felt safe the whole time we were there. We walked around all the little towns along the Flower Route and had no problems at al.
