Corona Del Mar State Beach - What to see & do??
Corona del Mar State Beach is a great family beach and a popular place for swimmers. Also known as Big Corona Beach, Corona del Mar State Beach is a half-mile long sandy beach framed by cliffs and a rock jetty that forms the east entrance to Newport Harbor. The beach is also popular with surfers, divers, volleyball players and sunbathers.
Corona del Mar offers beautiful sandy beaches and coves that look like they came right off of a movie set. You actually may have seen these beaches in movie and television productions such as Gilligan’s Island. On the hills above the beaches stand houses and windy roads and a lookout point to enjoy spectacular views of the Pacific Ocean and bay. The sunsets here are incredible, so bring a picnic and enjoy!
Corona del Mar State Beach held the first major surf competition in Mainland America: the Pacific Coast Surf Riding Championships in 1928. In order to make the entrance navigable for boaters, the harbor entrance was dredged to 25 feet and over 200,000 tons of rocks were dropped at the entrance to extend the West and East Jetties. The East Jetty grew to its current 1,673 feet and, along with the removal of the entrance sand bar, killed the easy waves that had become so popular.

Del Mar is beautiful.
I fortunate to stay at the Clarion Del Mar Inn, and had some time in the morning to do a quick fly. You should definitely check it out, next time you are in the area. Where is Del Mar? It's a small affluent town, near San Diego :)
And it was in Time magazine under 100 top beaches.

NEWPORT BEACH CA ~ Beautiful California Coast City
July 17, 2012. I stopped here in the city of NewPort Beach California for a couple hours. There's a great place to eat called Ruby's Shake Shack in the Crystal Cove area. On up from there a bit I found a pretty park with very nice views of the beach.
There's some very nice houses in the area. NewPort Beach real estate. I parked across the street in front of a house a man was working on. He seemed very pleasant and told me I was perfectly fine parking right there in front of the house.
Boats and ships were frequently seen out in the ocean. People sounded like they were having fun along the water. Some were surfing the waves, others just swimming about. The weather was perfect, not too hot, not too windy. If you're sunbathing, regardless the mild climate, aways be sure not to spend too much time under the sun.
