Cowal is a peninsula in Argyll and Bute, in the west of Scotland, that extends into the Firth of Clyde. The northern part of the peninsula is covered by the Argyll Forest Park managed by Forestry Commission Scotland. The Arrochar Alps and Ardgoil peninsula in the north fringe the edges of the sea lochs whilst the forest park spreads out across the hillsides and mountain passes, making Cowal one of the remotest areas in the west of mainland Scotland. The Loch Lomond and The Trossachs National Park extends into Cowal. The peninsula is separated from Knapdale by Loch Fyne, and from Inverclyde and North Ayrshire to the east by the Firth of Clyde.   • 1. Kilmodan Church Glendaruel
    Built in 1783 Kilmodan Church , is in the Clachan of Glendaruel in the Kilmodan parish of the Cowal peninsula, Argyll and Bute, West of Scotland. It is constructed to a Georgian T-plan design and a category B listed building. The walls are inset with shields from the previous church on the site and one is inscribed and dated 'SDC/1610.' There is also a memorial to Rev John Maclaurin and his notable sons . It has a rendered front and both the ends and rear are harled. The building underwent complete restoration in 1983.The church is still in use though only on a part-time basis, holding services on the 3rd and 4th Sundays of each month.
