A short walk around Lisburn City - only 8 miles southwest from Belfast City Centre - on the River Lagan - well worth a visit.
For people wondering where is Lisburn in Northern Ireland - it's just outside of Belfast - so it is easy to get to, if you have some time to spare to check out the area.
Lisburn is the third largest city in Northern Ireland and that gives it much of importance just like the attention that is always given to Belfast - it is even 8 miles northwest from Belfast's city centre, which means that it is also close for people to reach and check what it has for them.
This city, Lisburn, is situated on River Lagan and thus it forms the boundary between county Antrim and county Down. Lisburn is also part of Belfast Metropolitan Area and it has several touristic attractions or places that people could visit while they are in the city, which include the Irish Linen Museum ( Christ Church Cathedral ( as well as Lisburn Castle Gardens.
During our visit to Lisburn - was not the first time though :-) - we managed to walk down the streets of the city, check those shops and boutiques scattered all around the place, and eventually entering those touristic attractions and landmarks which managed to be the spotlight of Lisburn in general, and for all the shopping lovers out there, Lisburn is also considered one of the biggest shopping destinations in Northern Ireland with Bow Street Mall that occupies over 70 stores.
The Irish Linen Centre and Lisburn Museum started its journey with dealing with the local history regarding Lisburn and the Lagan Valley but it was then integrated with the history of textiles in 1994 when the Irish linen centre opened. This linen centre and museum is worth the visit because it collects and preserves items from the history of both Ireland's linen industry and the Lagan Valley.
In this museum, there are even some galleries to walk through and see those materials which are placed regarding Lisburn's cultural scene that focuses on local personalities, artists, poets, and writers.
In addition to visiting the place to explore more about the history of Lisburn when it comes to this industry, in this place there are also some free guided tours offered as well as those workshops that help the visitors in exploring the history of Irish linen and also a good day out for the school children :-)
Our next stop in Lisburn city was the Christ Church Cathedral. The Christ Church Cathedral was first called and referred to as St. Thomas's Church. This church was previously burnt down and the work which you will find standing today is commenced in 1708 after this incidence. After the reconstruction that took place in 1662, St. Thomas was designated the cathedral church. From that point, Christ Church Cathedral became one of the most important places to visit when it comes to Lisburn city in Northern Ireland.
Moving forward with the rest of our trip, we reached the next stop which we also recommend for all those who would be visiting Lisburn which is the Castle Gardens ( Lisburn Castle Gardens might be one of the most visited places in the city that also carries some ties with history. This place is good for those who want to walk among nature or just sit there relaxing their minds, it is also a perfect destination for those who want to see some of the old statues which might be taking their place in the garden.
The upper section of the garden dates back to the late Victorian times and there are some historical significant features that include the 1677 red sandstone gateway, the Wallace drinking fountain, and a memorable erected in 1891 that honors Lisburn's landlord Sir Richard Wallace.
All these things tell that the gardens is related back to history and that even comes in addition to some of the artifacts which were found in it and which most of them are displayed at the museum in the centre of the city.
Lisburn is filled with places to visit and inspect and in addition to those which we have mentioned and been to, there is also the Island Arts Centre ( the famous Giant's Ring ( and checking those different events which might be only taking place in the city annually, such as the Christmas market for example ( or else checking something like the Foote Farm which is held annually and which allows people to get to the farm on weekends and experience the day there (
Being the third largest city in Northern Ireland should be enough to convince you to come and check this city, but also the attractions will bring you right here.

Cushendun, Ballintoy and Torr Head - Causeway Coast - NI - Driving around Northern Ireland #Coast
Game of Thrones movie series has really brought different locations in Northern Ireland under the spotlight, making them much more famous and getting tourists to visit them more often. Not only did those places like the Dark Hedges ( that got famous, but there are even some hotels and pubs which gained more visitors because they happened to be where the ten doors are located.
The main intention of this trip was to find some of the ten doors which appeared in the movie and to do so, we headed to Cushendun, Ballintoy, and Torr Head where we also did other things like climbing the hill with the kids. All these different doors which you might have came across and witnessed in the movie are scattered across Northern Ireland - where the movie is filmed in general and even the Direwolves that appeared in the movie are Irish (
Our trip started at the Clendun Hotel in Cushendun where we started walking in search for any of the doors we came to witness. The first door we succeeded at reaching in Cushendun is located in Mary McBride's Pub; the thing is that, there are lots of those people - like us - who go to these places in search for the doors and to take a couple of pictures then leave, which we believe might still help the pub because there are those who might also decide to sit for some time and have something to drink.
After enjoying this door we have found and after taking all the pictures that we want of it, we decided to complete the journey and go searching for more of these doors. The next stop in this trip was the Torr Head; in the Torr Head we climbed that hill and we managed to get on top - that we even spotted out the car as a small dot standing down - where we managed to see this kind of castle which is destroyed that it is not even safe to get inside the rooms and check what they have, but the view from up there was magnificent with being on the sea and enjoying the good weather from there.
Leaving the Torr Head behind after checking it and getting back down to the car, we went on to complete the journey of finding and exploring the different doors, so we reached Ballintoy where the second door in this trip was found at the Fullerton Inn - the interesting thing is that those places which are homes to these doors tend to place a sign outside in order to let people know that what they are searching for is actually found inside.
While we were going back home, we passed by the Dark Hedges and drove through those trees which are a little bit scary at night ( but which was considered related to the trip due to being a place where some scenes from Game of Thrones were filmed as well.
In this trip, we have crossed two different doors off our list, but since we have made this as some kind of challenge which we want to achieve, there are other doors which we managed to visit before. From those other doors which we have seen, there is the one which is found in the Dark Horse Bar in Belfast Commercial Court ( there is also the door which is located in Percy French restaurant in Newcastle, county Down ( another door we came across was situated in Blakes of the Hollow which is a traditional Irish Victorian pub located in Enniskillen, county Fermanagh ( we also visited the Ballygally Castle Hotel where another door is located ( and we ended these with those two which we managed to reach and discover in this trip.
These places were related to the exploration of the doors in the Game of Thrones movie series, but we have also managed to visit those locations which appeared in the scenes of the movie. We have already mentioned our trip to the Dark Hedges which we truly fell in love with but which we still believe that they are considered a little bit scary at night - especially after knowing more about the legend of those ghosts which come to visit the place :-).
There are other places which we have visited and which are also related to the Game of Thrones movie, such as Cushendun Caves ( Portstewart Strand ( Lough Neagh which was referred to as smoking sea in GOT ( Toome Canal ( Binevenagh Mountain ( Leitrim Lodge ( Larrybane ( and many other destinations which we have been to and which we definitely recommend people and tourists to pay them a visit.

Carnlough Antrim Fishing Village - Carnlough Harbour - NI
Carnlough and Carnlough Harbour is an area of outstanding beauty nestled in amongst the Glens of Antrim - at the foot of Glencloy -
and the North Channel on the well travelled Coast Road.
Carnlough is actually a beautiful small fishing village that is located in county Antrim, Northern Ireland, and this Carnlough Harbour is part of it, on the shores of Carnlough Bay.
Carnlough Harbour was built by the owners of the quarries west of the village, which were connected to the harbour by means of a mineral tramway network, which include a bridge over each of two parallel streets in the village. Most of the old things that are built in any country out there are renovated and that is exactly the same that happened with Carnlough Harbour; it has been renovated recently and is now used by pleasure boats and small fishing boats.
Carnlough Harbour is now considered the focal point for the whole village, that is why it might be attracting lots of people - especially the local Irish ones - to it because they already now what they are going to see and experience at this place. This area offers many opportunities for both sea angling and fresh water angling.
If you intended to come to Carnlough Harbour by boat before and you are not from the village, you might have heard that it is difficult to find a place because it is usually full of local boats.
Carnlough Harbour is situated at the northern end of Carnlough Bay between Garren Point and Park Head. Visiting the place in general has its own different feeling and it is of course one experience which you will fall in love with for the weather and the calmness of the view; if you are coming from afar, there is also the famous Londonderry Arms Hotel which is just in front of the harbour and which you could stay at.
Being in Carnlough Village itself means that there are different attractions which one could actually see and check in addition to Carnlough Harbour - which we have to say is the most famous there. The options from the places that one could choose, there is the Glenarm Castle, the Red Bay Castle, Cranny Falls, Ardclinis Church, Carnlough Library, St. John the Evangelist, and the Hidden Village of Galboly. People always think that because Carnlough is a small village, it might not have what people could visit and know more about, but it has and might even grab the attention so easily.
In addition to those attractions and destinations which one could head out to in order to check in Carnlough Village, one should also think about the activities or those things which could be done apart from sightseeing. One of the examples which we have include taking the Carnlough Bay boat tours which will provide you with a new experience, or else going to the Glenarm forest and have a walk inside the place and experience it all.
Carnlough is situated in Ballymena and that brings another journey which people could think about - you could jump from one village to the other to check what it has there, but which will definitely depend on the number of days you are taking to enjoy your vacation.
In Ballymena, there are some important places to be mentioned, such as the Cushendun Caves which are situated in Cushendun ( and which also appeared in Game of Thrones movie series - just like Carnlough - and which is one of those which we have been to before.
Carnlough Harbour appeared in Game of Thrones movie series which is filmed in different locations all around Northern Ireland, even some of the 10 doors that appeared in the movie are found in Northern Ireland as well and if we are referring to Ballymena then door number 8 is found in Mary McBride's Bar which is found in Cushendun, Ballymena; so there is always something to explore in every part of Northern Ireland.
The trip we had to visit Carnlough Harbour was an interesting one, we didn't manage to visit any other touristic destinations in Carnlough Village but we loved walking by the water, sitting there just watching the boats, and at the same time enjoying the breeze and the atmosphere of the whole place.
If you are going on a tour regarding the locations that are part of Game of Thrones then visiting the Carnlough Harbour is a must, and if you are generally searching for a new and different location which you might visit in Northern Ireland then this is also an option - but it will definitely depend on your current location and the place you are staying at during your visit.
