San Antonio is the seventh most populous city in the United States of America and the second most populous city in the state of Texas, with a population of 1.3 million. It was the fastest growing of the top 10 largest cities in the United States from 2000-2010, and the second from 1990-2000. The city is located in the American Southwest, the south--central part of Texas, and the southwestern corner of an urban region known as the Texas Triangle.
The most important places to visit in San Antonio are: The Alamo (one of the country's most popular attractions. The famous Battler of the Alamo was staged here in 1836), San Fernando Cathedral (a city landmark founded in 1731. It is amongst the oldest cathedrals in the United States), Mission San Jose (the queen of missions and founded in 1720. Over 300 inhabitants lived here at one time), Tower of Americas (a 750 feet tall observation tower, offers a restaurant up to and great city views), Riverwalk (a network of beautiful walkways along the San Antonio River, lined with restaurants, shops, and other attractions) and many more.

La Villita San Antonio - One Of The Historic, Fun, Interesting Places To See in Texas
La Villita is the name of the original city of San Antonio that was founded in 1722. It's now part of downtown San Antonio, which is one of the ten largest cities in the United States.
La Villita is one of the top tourist attractions in San Antonio. Visitors are charmed by its old world setting which includes dozens of small shops and outstanding restaurants. The Little Church of La Villita was built in 1879, serves several denominations and is a favorite site for weddings.
La Villita sits along the San Antonio River, close to the most popular tourist attractions in San Antonio: the River Walk, the Alamo, the Tower Of The Americas and HemisFair Park.
One of the most interesting spots in La Villita is the Arneson River Theater, where tourists can sit in an open air amphitheater and watch productions on stage across the River Walk.

San Antonio River Walk
A network of walkways along the banks of the San Antonio River. Lined by bars, shops and restaurants, the River Walk is an important part of the city's urban fabric and a tourist attraction in its own right.
SeaWorld San Antonio
A 250-acre (100 ha) marine mammal park, oceanarium, and animal theme park, located in the Westover Hills District. The largest of the three parks in the SeaWorld chain owned by SeaWorld Entertainment. The world's largest marine-life theme park.
San Antonio Zoo and Aquarium
An Association of Zoos and Aquariums-accredited zoo in Midtown. The 35-acre (14 ha) zoo has a collection of over 3,500 animals representing 750 species. Also runs non-animal attractions: 2 ft (610 mm) narrow gauge San Antonio Zoo Eagle train ride, which first opened in 1956.
Tower of the Americas

San Antonio Japanese Tea Garden
Japanese Tea Garden opened in an abandoned limestone rock quarry in the early 20th century. For years the garden sat in neglect and disrepair, becoming a target of graffiti and vandalism. In 2005, the City used about $550,000 in bond money to reroof the pagodas.
Cathedral of San Fernando
A cathedral of the Roman Catholic Church located in Downtown. Also known as the Church of Nuestra Señora de la Candelaria y Guadalupe. One of the oldest cathedrals in the United States. Was built between 1738 and 1750.
Splashtown San Antonio
A water park. Opened in 1985 as Water Park USA. Located on the city's inner northeast side. Features a half-million-gallon wave pool, a quarter-mile-long lazy river, 40 water slides and tube rides, activity pool with lily pads and balance logs, water and beach volleyball.
Mission Concepcion
Was established in 1716 as Nuestra Señora de la Purísima Concepción de los Hainais in East Texas. It was originally meant to be a base for converting the Hasinai. Catholic Mass is still held every Sunday.
San Antonio Botanical Garden
A 33-acre (130,000 m2), non-profit botanical garden. Was first conceived in the 1940s by Mrs. R. R. Witt and Mrs. Joseph Murphy. fficially opened to the public on May 3, 1980.
Morgan's Wonderland
A 25 acres (10 ha) accessible amusement park for children and adults with special cognitive and physical needs. The park, which opened in April, 2010, was developed by Gordon Hartman. The very first theme park of its kind. Admission for those with special needs is free.

San Antonio serves as the seat of Bexar County. Recent annexations[8] have extended the city's boundaries into Medina County and, though for only a very tiny area near the city of Garden Ridge, into Comal County.[9] Since San Antonio was founded during the Spanish Colonial Era, it has a church (San Fernando Cathedral) in its center, along with a main civic plaza accompanying it in front, a characteristic which is also found in some other Spanish-founded cities, towns, and villages in Spain and Latin America. Due to its placement, the city has characteristics of other western urban centers in which there are sparsely populated areas and a low density rate outside of the city limits. San Antonio is the center of the San Antonio–New Braunfels Metropolitan Statistical Area. Commonly referred to as Greater San Antonio, the metropolitan area has a population of 2,454,061 based on the 2017 US Census estimate, making it the 24th-largest metropolitan area in the United States and third-largest in the state of Texas. Growth along the Interstate 35 and Interstate 10 corridors to the north, west and east make it likely that the metropolitan area will continue to expand.
San Antonio was named for Saint Anthony of Padua, whose feast day is on June 13, by a 1691 Spanish expedition in the area. The city contains five 18th-century Spanish frontier missions, including The Alamo and San Antonio Missions National Historical Park, which together were designated a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2015.[10] Other notable attractions include the River Walk, the Tower of the Americas, SeaWorld, the Alamo Bowl, and Marriage Island. Commercial entertainment includes Six Flags Fiesta Texas and Morgan's Wonderland amusement parks, and according to the San Antonio Convention and Visitors Bureau, the city is visited by about 32 million tourists a year. The city is home to the five-time NBA champion San Antonio Spurs and hosts the annual San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, one of the largest such events in the country.The Alamo Mission in San Antonio (the Alamo), located in Downtown, is Texas' top tourist attraction. Because of the mission, San Antonio is often called the Alamo City.[55]
The River Walk, which meanders through the Downtown area, is the city's second-most-visited attraction, giving it the additional nickname of River City. Extended an additional 13 miles between 2009–2013, the landscaped walking and bike path line the San Antonio River from the Museum Reach beginning in Brackenridge Park through downtown, Downtown Reach, past the Blue Star's Eagleland to the Mission Reach ending near Loop 410 South past Mission Espada.[56] Lined with numerous shops, bars, and restaurants, as well as the Arneson River Theater, this attraction is transformed into an impressive festival of lights during the Christmas and New Year holiday period (except for the Mission Reach), and is suffused with the local sounds of folklorico and flamenco music during the summer, particularly during celebrations such as the Fiesta Noche del Rio.
