Scherpenzeel and surroundings, Netherlands
Scherpenzeel is a village and municipality in the Gelderse Valley in the Dutch province Gelderland, region Gelderse Valley. The municipality of Scherpenzeel includes the village of the same name with the hamlets of Ruwinkel and De Haar and part of the hamlet of Moorst. In the French era Scherpenzeel came under the province of Utrecht, but since 19 September 1814 Scherpenzeel has been a member of Gelderland again.
The name Scherpenzeel, then called 'Scarpenzele', gives reason to assume that there must have been a fortified house next to a settlement.
Huis Scherpenzeel was part of the Scherpenzeel Estate until 1975. In the 14th century there was already a fortified house on the site of the present House Scherpenzeel. It was owned by the Van Scherpenzeel family.
Halfway through the 19th century the house got its present form: a not too large, symmetrical and elegant whole: front and back facades have some columns, covered with pewter; the side walls each have two stepped gables. See the presentation.
In the vicinity of Scherpenzeel is also the Grebbelinie. This is a water line between the Utrechtse Heuvelrug and the Veluwe, which was built in the 18th century. However, its fame is derived from the period 1939-1940, when the line under the name Valleistelling formed the main defence of the Dutch defence plan. After the Second World War, the casemates, tank barriers and German bunkers were covered with a layer of greenery. More than 40 kilometres of military history are now hidden in a beautiful and elongated nature reserve along Valleikanaal and Eem.
Holland Stories | Castles & Country Houses: admire the rich collections
Admire the wealth and beauty of Dutch castles and country houses. An ode to the rich country side through the ages.
Holland counts more than 700 castles, country houses and rural estates. That's a well kept secret that we would like to unveil. These typically Dutch historic houses and gardens are built bij rich merchants and nobility from the 17th and 18th century. They stem from the same wealth and prosperity like Rijksmuseum in Amsterdam and Mauritshuis in The Hague. NBTC Holland Marketing selected the most attractive castle museums and castle gardens, hotels, restaurants, regions, biking and routes in the story line Castles and Country Houses. Together they tell te story of the beauty and richness of lush gardens, rich collections and famous residents and guests from the past.

30 Things to do in Cape Town, South Africa Travel Guide Video Transcript:
Today we’re taking you around one of our favourite cities: Cape Town, South Africa.
We first visited Cape Town in 2015 as the final stop on a monthlong trip across South Africa. However, by the time we arrived, we only had a couple of days to spare and the weather was less than ideal, so we didn’t get to see very much.
We knew we had to return to do the city justice and also film a proper Cape Town travel guide for you guys. This time around, we gave ourselves a full week to spare.
Our days were packed with sightseeing, and with visits to restaurants, chocolate shops, wineries and gin distilleries, so without further delay, let us show you 30 things do in Cape Town, South Africa.
And that’s a wrap for our week in Cape Town, South Africa. We hope you enjoyed following along and that this guide gave you a few ideas of things to see, do and eat in Cape Town. As always, if you have any other suggestions for fellow travellers, feel free to share those in the comments below. In the meantime, wishing you happy travels and see you next time!
This is part of our Travel in South Africa video series showcasing South African food, South African culture and South African cuisine.

Bicycle trip - Zeist - Driebergen - Doorn and vice versa
This is the bicycle trip of 2010.12.20. The temperature outside was -6 degrees C. The route started at the Schaerweijdelaan in Zeist following the Utrechtseweg (00:00:05) and then the Driebergseweg (00:05:00) in the direction of the Driebergen - Zeist train station (00:13:00). After the DZ station the route was along the Hoofdstraat, passing under Highway A12 (00:15:55) towards Driebergen. Then onwards to Doorn following the Driebergsestraatweg (00:30:00), and just before reaching the center I decided it was time to turn around and via the Berkenstraat (00:38:37) I took the Oude Arnhemse Bovenweg (00:41:25) and followed this road all the way back via Driebergen to Zeist. The last bit of the trip lead through the city center of Zeist (2e Hogeweg (01:14:15), 1e Hogeweg (01:15:38), Oude Arnhemseweg (01:16:55). The video ends near the de Genestetlaan (01:20:50).
The conditions of the cycle lanes are a mixed bag. In some places it is fairly good, in some it is really bad and bumpy. What I don't understand is why often the left side of the lane is better than the right side of the lane. In NL we ride on the right hand side of the road, and a lot of the bicycle lanes had only one direction.
Zeist really could do better in the direct vicinity of the train station. And Driebergen could do better in the cleaning of the cycle lane of the Arnhemse Bovenweg in the direction Zeist.
And oh, the short breaks in the video are because the camera that I have can only save files that are about 2Gb in size, which comes down to 8 minutes 20 s of video.
Although the videos were shot at 1280x720, the maximum that works is 480 at the moment. I don't know why it doesn't work. YT, is it still processing?

Cannenburgh Castle | The Netherlands #7
A visit to Cannenburgh castle in the Dutch town of Vaassen. The castle, which is situated 8 kilometres (5 miles) north of Apeldoorn, was built in the sixteenth century on the fundaments of an older medieval castle. The (in)famous Guelders field marshal Maarten van Rossum ordered the building of the castle in 1543. After his death, it came into the hands of the family Van Isendoorn. The family of Isendoorn was one of the few noble families in the northern Low Countries that remained Catholic. The castle was largely neglected over the course of the twentieth-century until it was bought and restored by the Geldersch Landschap & Kasteelen Foundation.
