IJsselstein to Vianen, small medieval towns | The Netherlands #5
In this episode, we visit two small towns in the Dutch province of Utrecht. Both towns developed in the fourteenth century and were during most of the fourteenth and fifteenth centuries in a continuous struggle with the nearby city of Utrecht, the largest urban centre in the northern Low Countries. Their strategic position on trade routes via the Rhine made them quite a nuisance for Utrecht. The medieval centres of IJsselstein and Vianen mostly maintained their original layout.
Travel to Utrecht: Best city of Netherland I Vlog I The Netherlands
What´s up guys?
We were strongly recommended to visit Utrecht while in Amsterdam and so we did. The ambient is so hilarious that for those of you who rather some place a bit more quiet than Amsterdam, this is the perfect place. Though it´s style and population is very young, due to its Universities, you are for sure not going to find the frenetic non stop of the neighbor city Amsterdam, nor the massive hordes of tourists. But you'll find a thousand things to do and visit. This little town is the typical gem of a country which is best know for other much more famous places, like Torino is to Italy or the Basque country to France.
Hope you enjoy!

Visiting a charming small town in The Netherlands
In this movie I'm visiting a charming small town in The Netherlands.
Just like, in all it's awesomeness, New York is nothing like the rest of the United States, The rest of The Netherlands is very different from the bustling city of Amsterdam.
In this video I wanted to take you on a trip to a charming small town in Eastern Netherlands, where I go, whenever I travel there to visit my family.
I hope that maybe next time you visit Holland, I've inspired you to take a trip to the countryside.

Netherlands: The Hanseatic Town of Kampen
Kampen is a municipality, a city and an old Hanseatic city at the lower reaches of the river IJssel in the Dutch province of Overijssel.
It has one of the best preserved old town centres of the Netherlands, including remains of the ancient city wall (of which three gates are still standing): The Koornmarkt Gate, The Friar Gate (Broederpoort) and the Cellebroeders Gate.
Hoorn beautiful authentic harbour - Holland Holiday
A beautiful old city, about 40 kilometers from Amsterdam, is Hoorn.
In the past it was a succesful trading port situated on the Zuiderzee.
After closing this sea with a 30 kilometer barrier dam the Zuiderzee became a lake, called IJsselmeer.
After the construction of a dam between Enkhuizen and Lelystad the lake south of the dam was called Markermeer.
Today Hoorn is a bustling marina for water sports.
At the end of the afternoon the traditional ships enter the harbour, often with groups that make a trip on the Dutch waters, such as the IJsselmeer, Markermeer and the Wadden Sea.
These old Dutch flat-bottomed ships are called 'De Bruine Vloot', which means 'The Brown Fleet'.
The name refers to the brown sails many of these boats are equipped with.
Did you know that Cape Horn was named after the city of Hoorn?
In the year 1616 explorer Willem Corneliszoon Schouten named the cape after his city of birth.
The old town has lively shopping streets with pleasant terraces.
Like many other towns in the Netherlands Hoorn has a history with cheese. In summer there is a cheese market every week.
We take a look in a cheese shop that has hardly changed for generations.
You can also visit several interesting museums.
The collection of the Westfries Museum shows you the cultural history of the 17th century, the Golden Century.
Museum 20th Century houses an impressive collection of objects from the 20th century that will appeal to both young and old alike!
Or enjoy old masterpieces of poster design in the ‘Affiche Museum’.
Make a trip through time with a historic steam tram from Hoorn to another little harbour, Medemblik. Or a trip in combination with a boat trip to ancient port Enkhuizen.
You will enjoy your stay in Hoorn!

Netherlands by camper
In August 2016 I have decided to join my parents on their trip to Netherlands. Spending two weeks in a camper, travelling in a country I had never been before. We drove from our town in Italy, passing through the Alps, France and then Belgium. The small towns of the Zeeland and South Holland have been the first visited, then we also visited bigger cities such as Utrecht, Rotterdam, The Hague and the end, Amsterdam, where I took a flight to come home.
Enjoy the windmill's country!

Zutphen. Hanseatic town on the river IJssel | The Netherlands #4
In this episode, I visit the former Hanseatic town of Zutphen. The town, situated on the spot where the river Berkel flows into the IJssel, is arguably one of the prettiest towns of its size in the Netherlands. Largely untouched by war and industrialisation, the primarily medieval and early modern centre is a gem well worth a visit.
---
