It is located 2.5 miles south of Plymouth on Dry Creek, at an elevation of 646 feet . The population at the 2010 census was 167. The town is registered as a California Historical Landmark. The community is in ZIP code 95699 and area code 209. Today Drytown is home to a population of less than 200 people and about 5 antiques stores. But once before it was a well-known hotspot thanks to the gold mines with a population of 10,000 people.

    The Harvey's Resort Hotel bombing took place on August 26–27, 1980, when three men planted an elaborately booby trapped bomb containing 1,000 pounds of dynamite at Harvey's Resort Hotel in Stateline, Nevada, United States. The mastermind behind the bomb, former millionaire John Birges, was attempting to extort $3 million from the casino, claiming he had lost $750,000 gambling there. The FBI went to the spot that they believed to be the ransom drop, but due to vague directions, Birges was waiting at a different location.
