Machala, capital of the El Oro Province nearby the Gulf of Guayaquil in the Pacific region of Ecuador. With roughly 550.000 inhabitants in the whole metropolitan region, it is the fourth biggest city in Ecuador. Machala is often referred to “Capital Bananera del mundo” or in English the Banana Capital of the World. As of its important role in the distribution and export of bananas in the world. Furthermore Machala is a relatively safe city. It has no big historic centres like Quito, Guayaquil, Cuenca, Riobamba, .. but it has definitely many turistic attractions & it is a beautiful city.

HUALTACO: LAST RELIC OF MANGROVES IN ECUADOR (4K drone video)
The mangrove is a biome formed by trees very tolerant to the brackish waters of the intertidal zone near the mouth of freshwater courses in tropical and subtropical latitudes. Separated by estuaries that form water channels where the fresh water of the rivers and the salt water of the ocean are mixed. This biome harbors a great biological diversity with high productivity, finding many species of birds, fish, crustaceans, molluscs and others, being an engine of the economy through the use of the existing resources.
Its name derives from the trees that form them, mangroves, the word mangle (from which mangrove is derived in German, French and English) comes from a Caribbean voice or Arahuaca, which means twisted tree.
They are great barriers that prevent the natural erosion of the ocean, besides being the habitat of numerous species.
Unfortunately, the Mangrove is one of the most disturbed biotypes in Ecuador, due to the intense growth of shrimp farms, which have implacably turned large areas of Mangrove forest into small strips that appear to be continuous from the ground, but with the eyes of Quilico , the reality is different.
This video shows fragments of a population that has tried to live in harmony with the mangrove, on the Ecuador - Peru border. It is Puerto Hualtaco, located in the Huaquillas county of the province of El Oro. On the Peruvian side is the Manglares de Tumbes National Sanctuary and on the Ecuadorian side, a few communities such as Costa Rica or San Gregorio have bet on ecotourism as an economical activity parallel to fishing.
Let's get to know this treasure of Ecuador.

Amotape Hills National Park, Ecuador, South America
The Amotape Hills National Park is located around the Amotape District, in the northern section of the Piura Region and the extreme southern section of the Tumbes Region in Peru. It is the best well kept example of equatorial dry forests in the whole Pacific region. Once before these forests covered the whole of Tumbes, Piura and Lambayeque in Peru, and the El Oro and the Guayas coastal provinces in Ecuador. Many varieties of orchids, shrubs, thorn trees and animals are found in these regions such as the spectacled bear, boa constrictor, the endangered American crocodile, and 111 bird species. The national park was officially established on July 22, 1975 and has an area of 151,561 hectares (585.18 sq mi). Tropical and humid during the summer months, December to April, and a drier savanna climate during the rest of the year. The average temperature is around 27 °C (81 °F), with highs of 42 °C (108 °F) and lows of 16 °C (61 °F). Throughout the year it is warm, over 25 °C (77 °F), and summers can turn unbearable. It is the only protected natural area in Peru where the equatorial dry forest ecoregion is still preserved.
Otavalo, Ecuador Travel Guide - Ep 3 EVERYTHING YOU MUST DO
Want to Travel the World? Travel around the world? Latin America? Backpack or Backpacker? Backpacking tips? Is Ecuador Safe?
In these series of short video guides, I'll be traveling around the Ecuadorian town Otavalo, giving advice and explaining what's good to do and see.
The dancing at parties consists of stomping and shuffing and swaying side to side whilst moving as a group in a large circe. The more people there are the bigger the circles.
Hitchhiking is loads of fun, so go with an open mind and hold on for the bumpy ride.
Cotapaxi is a must when you're there and is easy if you manage to land yourself your own car, fear not if you can't as taxis can be rented to take you all the way up.
My family is from Otavalo so any questions or queries feel free to leave a comment.
