The Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial is an air museum in England on the site of the former RAF Elvington airfield. The Yorkshire Air Museum was founded, and first opened to the public, in the early 1980s.
The Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial is the largest independent air museum in Britain and is the most original Second World War RAF Bomber Command station open to the public. It is also the only Allied Air Forces Memorial in Europe. The museum has a good international reputation and profile with established branches in Canada and France and is supported by over 4,000 registered friends across the world. It is a Corporate Member of Friends of the Few (Battle of Britain Memorial) and the Royal Aeronautical Society.
The President of the Museum/Memorial is Air Chief Marshal Sir Stephen Dalton and Vice Presidents include; the Chief of the Air Staff, Sir Andrew Pulford; Chief of the French Air Force, General Andre Lanata; Supreme Allied Commander NATO, General Denis Mercier; Archbishop of York, Dr John Sentamu; and TV Presenter, Jan Leeming.
Yorkshire Air Museum principal activity is in education and the history of flight, through which it is involved with aerospace manufacturers and organisations via its long term Reach for the Sky project which delivered the first KS2 History of Aviation educational resource book to all 26,000 primary schools in UK, supported by RAeS and the Ministry of Transport.
The Yorkshire Air Museum has around 50 aircraft spanning the development of aviation from 1853 up to the latest GR4 Tornado. Several aircraft including Victor, Nimrod, Buccaneer, Sea Devon, SE5a, Eastchurch Kitten; DC3 Dakota; are kept live and operated on special Thunder Days during the year. Over 20 historic vehicles and a Registered Archive containing over 500,000 historic artefacts and documents are also preserved at the Museum, which is also the Official Archive for the National Aircrew Association and National Air Gunners Association. It is nationally registered and accredited through DCMS/Arts Council England and is a registered charity.
A permanent exhibition on RAF Bomber Command was opened at the museum by life member, Sir David Jason. In 2010 a new exhibition called Pioneers of Aviation, and funded by the Heritage Lottery Fund, was opened featuring the lives and achievements of Sir George Cayley, Sir Barnes Wallis, Robert Blackburn, Nevil Shute and Amy Johnson.

York video walk around the Yorkshire Museum Gardens and St Mary's Abbey in the heart of York, Yorkshire, England.
If you're in the UK then York is a city you simply must visit due to the huge wealth of history, ruins, castles, towers and the many things that represent the historic beauty of England.
We start this short walk around York on Museum Street where we turn into the entrance to the Yorkshire Museum grounds.
Taking a right we move towards a really cool building that we have no idea what it's name is but houses some great art displays. We have a quick nosey around before making our way further into the grounds of The Yorkshire Museum.

The gardens are a peaceful refuge from the busy streets and traffic of York City Centre and worth a visit if you want a bit of relaxation.
As you'll see by the letters in the gardens we filmed this between Christmas and New Year 2017 on December 19th 2017.
We move further into the gardens and grounds and head down towards the ruins of St Mary's Abbey
Access to the gardens in the video is free so if you're in York have a look around and spend some time. It's great for a quick break from the hustle and bustle.

The Museum is situated next to a 10,000ft x 400 acre international standard runway which holds the current European Land Speed Record.

The Yorkshire Air Museum is the largest independent air museum in Britain and is also the location of The Allied Air Forces Memorial. It is a Registered Charity (No.516766) and nationally accredited museum (No.66).
Situated in a 20 acre parkland site on the former World War II RAF Bomber Command Station at Elvington near the City of York, the Museum/Memorial is located on the largest and most original WWII station open to the public.
It was also the only base used by the French heavy bomber squadrons during the war and today includes award winning gardens, a large NAAFI style restaurant and shop, plus over 15 top class exhibitions and over 60 historic aircraft and vehicles, many of which are in working order. In 2012 it was voted the top Specialist Attraction in Britain.
The Yorkshire Air Museum & Allied Air Forces Memorial is pleased to announce the appointment of General Denis Mercier Chief of the French Air Force as its new Vice-President, who accompanies Sir Stephen Dalton Chief of the Air Staff, in the post.
Former Chief of the French Air Force General Jean-Paul Paloméros remains a Vice-President following his promotion to NATO Supreme Allied Commander in September 2012 and Gneral Dennis Mercier has also taken up the position as Head of the French Air Force.
