Furzebrook is a small village on the Isle of Purbeck, in the county of Dorset in the south of England. It is about 2 miles south of Wareham and 2 miles northwest of Corfe Castle, and is in the civil parish of Church Knowle. The name Furzebrook derives from the furze/gorse and a brook. The first use of the name was probably by Furzebrook Farm. Furzebrook became the centre of the clay industry as all the local Purbeck Ball Clay was taken there to ripen by exposing. Stonehenge is a prehistoric monument in Wiltshire, England, 2 miles west of Amesbury. It consists of a ring of standing stones, with each standing stone around 13 feet high, 7 feet wide and weighing around 25 tons. The Tank Museum is a collection of armoured fighting vehicles at Bovington Camp in Dorset, South West England. It is about 1 mile north of the village of Wool and 12 miles west of the major port of Poole. The collection traces the history of the tank. With almost 300 vehicles on exhibition from 26 countries it is the largest collection of tanks and the third largest collection of armoured vehicles in the world. It includes Tiger 131, the only working example of a German Tiger I tank, and a British First World War Mark I, the world's oldest surviving combat tank. It is the museum of the Royal Tank Regiment and the Royal Armoured Corps and is a registered charity.

Lulworth Camp is a British Army base that is home to the Armoured Fighting Vehicle Gunnery School and runs the Lulworth Ranges on the southern coast of Dorset, England. It is part of Bovington Garrison and is located on the Purbeck Ridge between the villages of East and West Lulworth. The camp lies immediately southeast of the road junction between the B 3070 and B 3071 and about a mile northeast of Lulworth Cove.

Swanage to Wareham & Back - First train for 45 years

Join us for a drivers-eye view as we journey through the beautiful Purbeck countryside in real-time, and experience the best seat in the house on the journey from Swanage to Wareham and back.

The last British Rail train ran to Corfe Castle and Swanage in January 1972.

Shortly after, the line was closed and the tracks were ripped up, leaving only a three-mile stub from the main line to Furzebrook for clay and later Wytch Farm for oil.

Few people thought that passenger trains from Swanage and Corfe Castle would ever return to Wareham, but 45 years later the towns have been reconnected.

The first public train from Swanage to Wareham ran again on Tuesday 13th June 2017, departing at 10:23am. The service was top and tailed by Class 33 Crompton No. 33012 / D6515 Lt Jenny Lewis RN which hauled the service from Swanage to Wareham, and Class 37 No. 37518. which hauled the train back to Swanage.

The next episode in 'The Best of...' series featuring probably the best known of the Bulleid 'Light Pacifics' - BR(S) 'West Country'-class 4-6-2 No.34092 City of Wells.

This video showcases No.34092 following its departure from the Keighley & Worth Valley Railway and its appearances at some other railways during 2015 and 2017.

Kingston Lacy Badbury Rings Avenue of Beech Trees

Video taken to record the breathtaking two mile journey through this historic beech avenue that runs along part of the B3082 between Blandford Forum and Wimborne Minster town, Dorset, U.K. Video taken by Peter Schwarz on his way home from work early afternoon in Spring 2012. We were driving from Blandford towards Wimborne. Iron age Badbury Rings feature off to the left of the avenue half way along its length while the etrance to Kingston Lacy house is just beyond the end of this video and to the right.

The avenue was planted in 1835 as an anniversary gift for Lady Bankes. It was the original driveway to Kingston Lacy House,. Sadly the beech trees are approaching the end of their lives. There are now many gaps where trees have had to be felled. We understand may have gone in 20 years' time. .

Badbury Rings is a hill fort which dates from the Iron Age, (800BC to AD43), and is constructed on an earlier Bronze Age site (2200BC-800BC). It is believed to have belonged to an ancient Dorset tribe known as the 'Durotriges' who also constructed the famous site at Maiden Castle near Dorchester.

Badbury Rings is a high point in the local landscape and provides excellent views in all directions. It was used as a main cross roads for the Roman empire whose road network cut across Dorset. You can take a number of relatively easy walks from the site which are all signposted from the carpark.

P.S. If you come to visit PLEASE DRIVE CAREFULLY. The beauty of the trees is quite distracting and this stretch of road has its fair share of accidents.

Front Window Episode 11 stars the Great Central Railway during the Autumn Steam Gala of this month, with visiting Bulleid Light Pacific 34092 'City of Wells' at the helm of our run from Leicester North along the 8 & 1/4 miles to Loughborough Central.

Various other activities can be sighted as we pass Swithland sidings and Quorn & Woodhouse en-route, with 'City of Wells' sporting the Bournemouth Belle headboard.
