One of the best things to do when you travel is eat delicious local food. So one of the ideas I like to do when I visit any destination is eat a typical breakfast, lunch, and dinner. Japanese food is amazing, and in Tokyo you have so many options of what to eat, so on this Japanese food tour, I decided to eat a mix of typical and authentic Japanese food.
Breakfast at Shokudo diner 東新宿食堂
Japanese breakfast can be very regional in Japan, but a good typical Japanese breakfast is a bowl of rice, miso soup, and often a piece of grilled fish like a mackerel. Just down the road from where I was staying in Tokyo, we went to the local diner for some Japanese breakfast.
Price - 1,690 JPY ($15.29) for everything on my tray
Lunch at Sanshuya 三州屋
This is one of the best local Japanese restaurants I’ve ever been to in Tokyo. Thank you to Yuko for this recommendation. It’s a small hole-in-the-wall restaurant that serves incredibly fresh fish and daily specials. Amazing little restaurant in Ginza, for best Japanese food.
Total price - 3,300 JPY ($29.87) for 2
Dinner at Shibuya Morimoto Yakitori
There are so many different Japanese food you can choose to eat for dinner, but one of the common businessman meals is an afterwork stop at an izakaya (a Japanese pub). One type of izakaya is a yakitori restaurant, serving grilled chicken. I went to a restaurant called Shibuya Morimoto, a wonderful chicken heaven and ordered the omakase set. The chicken sashimi was actually incredible!
Total price - 9,001 JPY ($81.45) for 2
So that wraps up this authentic Japanese food tour of breakfast, lunch, and dinner in Tokyo. Thank you for watching!

Saitamaya: The Master of Grilled Meat
If you have a great meal, but you're not allowed to take a picture of it, is it still delicious? At Saitamaya, the answer is yes.
We're thrilled to share our experience at Saitamaya, where the master has perfected the art of Yakiton, but he won't let you take any pictures or video of the food. Yet, he allowed us to shoot here this day. The food here is unbelievable. People travel from all over the country to eat here, and - if you're coming to Japan - you definitely need to stop by here.
Come, let us introduce you to the master of grilled meat.

In this episode, we will spend the day with Shinji Tsuchimochi, an illustrator based in Tokyo.
Tsuchimochi studied Japanese painting in Tama Art University, and cites ukiyo-e painter Hiroshige as one of his favourite artists. He decided to recreate one of Hiroshige's most notable works, the One Hundred Famous Views of Edo, to the modern day using his own contemporary illustration style. After three years working on finding and drawing the locations, he completed his book 100 views of Tokyo.
Together we will visit some of the locations Tsuchimochi used in his illustrations, which are centered around Shitamachi, the area that was once the center of Edo.
We will then head towards Jimbocho, famous for its old book and record shops, to Saboru, a cafe held for more than 60 years by the same owner, which truly depicts the charm of the area.
Our next stop will be Yamada Shoten, a ukiyo-e shop where Tsuchimochi enjoys spending time and looking at paintings. He will tell us more about his vision of ukiyo-e and how he expresses it in his work.

An evening walk in Hiroo, one of Tokyos most expensive neighborhoods - 4K 60FPS
In this video I'm taking an evening walk in Hiroo (sometimes spelled Hiro-o), one of the most well-known upmarket residential and shopping neighborhoods in Tokyo.
Hiroo is located in the southeast area of the district of Shibuya, Tokyo, Japan. The boundaries of Hiroo are Nishi-Azabu, Minato and Minami-Aoyama, Minato to the north and follows the Shibuya River along the south. Minami-Azabu, Minato is located to the east and Higashi, Shibuya is located to the west.
It's an area particularly popular with the wealthy expats in Tokyo, especially those whose packages includes generous housing allowances, as rent for a family-sized apartment in this part of Tokyo can surpass 1000 000 yen per month.
Hiroo station is serviced by the Tokyo Metro Hibiya Line.
This was filmed on a weekend in December 2018, with a Fujifilm X-T3 in 4K 60FPS. The lens used is a Laowa 9mm f2.8, and the camera was mounted on a Zhiyun Crane gimbal for stability.
Shot in F-Log and graded in Adobe Premiere CC.
I hope you like this travel video from Tokyo. Please let me know if there are any other places you would like to see me visit, or if you have any other questions or opinions about my movies.

Reiun-in Zen Garden near Tōfuku-ji in Kyoto!
The Zen garden of Reiun-in (霊雲院庭園) is a karesansui (枯山水), or dry landscape garden. Reiun-in was founded by the zen monk Kiyo Hoshu (岐陽方秀-1361-1424) in 1390. Outside of the shoin (study) there are two gardens, the Nine Mountains and Eight Seas (九山八海の庭) and the Garden of the Bowing Clouds (臥雲の庭). In the middle of the Nine Mountains and Eight Seas garden stands the famous Iai seki (遺愛石). It was given to monk Shosetsu by the son of Lord Tadatoshi Hosokawa (細川 忠利), Lord Mitsuhisa. It was a gift for services given during the Shimabara Rebellion (島原の乱-1637-1638).
According to the brochure Iai seki symbolises Mt.Shumisen, the holy mountain where Buddha lives. In the garden, the Iai seki stands in the centre and around it you can see the white sand describing circles, the combined stones showing a waterfall and a green miniature hill. The garden expresses the true aspect of the universe.
Day of the Dead, Giant Kite Festival | Sumpango, Guatemala
The magnificent Giant Kite Festival takes place every year on Día de los Muertos (Day of the Dead) in Sumpango, Guatemala. The practice of flying kites during the Day of the Dead goes back several thousand years. It is believed that the kite (or barrilete) creates a connection of communication between the spirits of the dead and their families here on Earth.
In Sumpango, kite makers (barrileteros) work for months from after work to late in the evening to prepare the kites (some as large as 20 meters) for the festival, which takes place on November 1.
The kites resemble giant paintings, similar to a giant mural you would see in Miami's Wynwood Art District or the Bushwick Collective in New York. They are made, however, using layers of hand-cut, colored paper, the same type of thin paper used to line gift boxes(!). The kites are then folded up and taken to the festival where they are fastened to large bamboo poles for display or for flying. I traveled to Sumpango this year with my teenage daughter to capture a few images from this remarkable festival with my Lumix GH4.
Enjoy...
