Warwickshire Canal Walk
The Stratford-upon-Avon canal, runs through the countryside for 25 miles from Stratford to Birmingham. It was built in the early 19th century and was restored in the 1960s. Near Lapworth, Warwickshire, this canal descends a flight of narrow locks to meet the Grand Union canal
at Kingswood Junction.
These days, canal traffic is limited to classic narrow boats owned by canal enthusiasts and boat rental companies and boat transit through the manually-operated locks provides entertainment for towpath dog walkers and hikers .
Nearby, Packwood Avenue, a grassy lane flanked by large oak trees, leads directly to Packwood House, a Tudor manor house . This National Trust property is famous for its garden of over one hundred mature, clipped yew trees. The towpath of the Grand Union canal connects to the Packwood Avenue by a public rural footpath, and from the Packwood House the towpath of the nearby Stratford Canal offers a pleasant path back to the Kingswood Junction for a 6 km. circular walk. An 11 km. version of this loop hike passes a second National Trust property, the moated manor house at Baddesley Clinton . This extended hike was selected by the Daily Telegraph newspaper in July 2009 as one of the top ten hikes in Britain .
Conveniently, the Boot Inn gastro-pub is close to the Stratford canal, while the Navigation Inn, next to the Union canal, provides real ale and homemade pub meals.

London Travelcard [Featuring 2x Black Five Steam Locos] (14-12-2013)
We start at Hoxton, with its splendid view of The City before heading to Canonbury to see a Freightliner working pass through. We then head up to the GOBLIN Line where see freight and C2C services passing Woodgrange Park. The C2C services were diverted this way to serve Stratford's Westfield Shopping Centre. Nearby Maryland provides us with the usual mix of Greater Anglia traffic & also a Class 90 hauled Freightliner working. Pudding Mill Lane, which will soon be replaced by a new station, which doesnt look to afford such excellent views of the GEML is next before visits to Seven Kings, Romford & Emerson Park. After a brief visit to the Hammersmith & City Line (where 'S' Stock appears to dominate) we observe 1Z84 1717 Chichester to Southend Central, hauled by 2 Black Five Steam Locomotives pass a very wet Shepherds Bush and later in the trip calling at West Hampstead, this time hauled by Class 47. 47580.
